The region of the site when you access it is based on the region of the profile, so no, a VPN won't work.
You can however make another account in a region where the game is free to grab, grab it with that profile then log in on your console with that profile. You will then be able to play the game with your original profile as you can access everyone's games that have that console set as their primary console.
