9 new packs

Now the DLC alone adds up to about 100 dollars, I realize this is cosmetic stuff but its still extreme, they could have added all of this crap into one cosmetic pack alongside the Season Pass or hell I don't know just put all of it in the season pass.

Sorta glad I didn't break down and buy it on GMG yesterday, morally my head says no to this company now, this kinda crap didn't happen with Borderlands 1...

  • Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage
  • Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt
  • Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep
  • Ultimate Vault Hunters Upgrade Pack

What you DON'T get with the season pass:

  • Mechromancer Pack
  • Psycho Pack
  • Creature Slaughterdome
  • Collector's Edition Pack
  • Skin Packs

I don't care about cosmetic DLC and I find no fault with companies releasing cosmetic DLC. People with too much money will buy crap like that and I have no issue with companies taking advantage of stupid people.

If you're mad because of the things that weren't included in the Season Pass, despite the Season Pass clearly explaining what was included, you're a moron.

Is this directed at me? If so I guess you're the moron since you have terrible comprehension and reading skills, if not I am unsure who you are directing this at....

If you don't understand why I say this, refer to where I said: "they could have added all of this crap into one cosmetic pack alongside the Season Pass or hell I don't know just put all of it in the season pass."

The point was that the company is greedy btw if you someone missed that also...

No, sorry. I wasn't directing it at you. I've just seen people rage about the Borderlands 2 Season Pass since the day it was announced and it's just tiring.

I wouldn't be surprised if they end up bundling up all the skins into one bundle (probably about $20). But it would silly to expect them to give away for free something that they could sell. All public companies exist to make profit. They have an obligation to their shareholders to make as much profit as is legally possible.

Oh alright, its not the idea of a season pass that irks me to be fair, thats all good and well, basically a pre-order for decent DLC(Expansion really, they are long enough together). Its the nickel and dimming with this sorta stuff that annoys me.

Sorry if I came off to hostile btw, I am use to the internet being a terrible place I guess :-/. A pack of skins would be nice for like 5-10 bucks honestly. Really it should be in the GOTY edition though also.

I don't really see a problem here... like I mentioned in the "Worst DLC" thread, cosmetic stuff are completely optional and unrelated to actual content, so they don't hurt the consumers at all. Plus, assuming you wanna buy some of them, having them all separate allows you to buy only the ones you want rather than feel like you're being made to pay extra for those you don't want which would then be included in the pack.
The characters, Slaughter Dome and Ultimate Vault Hunter mode on the other hand... I totally don't agree with those. They could have been free as a sign of good intention, but- nope. :/

I think its ok in F2P games but not in retail ones that cost 60 dollars already on top of another 30 for a season pass, but I guess that really does fall under opinion, I can see why some would be ok with it. Honestly though those costumes could be added as a thank you for supporting us if you ask me...

I just think these companies are really trying to take advantage now.

I would completely agree with you if these were release day cosmetic items, but they aren't. In my opinion, since the developers put effort into making additional resources for the game after it has been out for many months (almost a year), it is perfectly reasonable for them to expect monetary compensation. (I wouldn't be saying this if the developers had pitched these like they did the main 4 dlcs.)

That's what they are companies for, Gearbox is in it for the money, not to make friends. Having an art team working on this costs money, so they ask for money. Maybe too much, but I wouldn't know, I don't care about cosmetics.

1 decade ago
Permalink

I'm quite annoyed with them. All they needed to do was release one or two packs of skins for a cheap price and people would buy them. This just looks like they're trying to seriously milk their customers.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Actually, it looks like they're letting you buy a skin or two that you like and is PURELY cosmetic, instead of forcing you to pay $5 for 1 skin you like and 9 you don't. Given the choice, I'd take a single $1 item over a pack of ten for $5 that I mostly don't like or care to have.

Also, should I choose to never buy any (I haven't yet), I don't have to. None of the skins really compel me to buy them, but it's nice to know that should I ever wish to, I don't have shell out a ton of cash for unwanted skins, just a singular, smaller amount - for the skin I like.

There are enough cosmetic options in the game available. I wonder why you care about having more skins so much. Since you haven't even played the game, it is a First-Person shooter. Meaning you can't even see the skins you get yourself outside the menu, just other people you play with. These are made separately from the rest of the game's development, so it doesn't affect anyone who doesn't want to buy them. And it's not like you are entitled to it.
But I guess you want all the skins DLC then, since you want it all in a pack or just like to justify missing out on a deal or something. Gearbox have been pretty clear on to what is included in the Season Pass (basically a campaign bundle). And also you knew from the start what you got from buying the game. You don't suddenly get LESS content when they make ADDITIONAL SKINS, but I guess people are just greedier than the company for wanting all of this cosmetic stuff they wouldn't even use for the sake of complaining.
This does create revenue for Gearbox, do you mind, I don't. That will be invested in BL3, which will probably have even more nonsense DLC I won't get, but who cares.

Aah though this time its cosmetic stuff but still they keep adding campaign dlc's as well.

So, you think gamers are stupid, and you think that GBX thinks that their customers are stupid, and will buy anything related to the game, that's why your head says no to GBX "morally"? That makes no sense.

If someone wants to buy a skin pack, they will buy the skin pack. You don't like it? Then don't buy it. Simple.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, gamers are people, and there's no doubt about it that most people are damn stupid. And companies make cosmetic DLC like this because people buy it. So Gearbox knows its customers are stupid.

Nowhere did I say anyone is stupid, oh man...

1 decade ago
Permalink

I think you did, because you said that "morally" your head says no to GBX. And I'm assuming, that it's because you think they're taking advantage of their customers with something that they're... disguising... somehow, so they would buy them thinking it's something else, therefore, arriving to the conclusion that they are stupid and they don't know what they buy (or, at the other end, that they're fanboys).

Personally, BL2 is the best game I've ever played, and I couldn't care less for the skins DLC, but if someone likes them and buy them, I have no problem with that.

Well, i don't like the idea there are additional DLCs on top of what i've already paid "as an extra" for the season pass (plus the base game)... i feel it should include everything.

I like way more what Tripwire is doing with Killing Floor, gameplay stuff is free and cosmetic DLCs are only to show support to the devs (and that's why I own almost all KF DLCs, as opposed to none from B2 except what's included in Season Pass)

1 decade ago

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't really understand your moral objection. Borderlands 1 had 4 DLC's released, all of which were campaign DLC's. Borderlands 2 has released 4 campaign DLC's, 2 additional character DLC's and cosmetic DLC's. The only thing you have to pay for in Borderlands 2 as opposed to Borderlands 1 is the UVHM Upgrade, but that's included in the season pass.

The season pass wasn't available on the first game, people just had to buy the campaign DLC's as they were released. You spent $40 to buy them. Borderlands 2 has a season pass available for $30, which includes the 4 campaign DLC's as well as the UVHM upgrade.

Borderlands 2 just had more optional content made for it, so your moral objection is that because this company is continuing to support their game 10 months after launch that you shouldn't buy it? I don't normally buy cosmetic DLC, but I have bought 2 of the cosmetic DLC's for BL2 simply because I like the way they look. 99 cents for a new skin and head hardly seems unreasonably priced.

I can understand an objection based on value proposition, not wanting to purchase this game until a GotY edition comes out, but a moral objection means you won't be supporting Gearbox simply on the grounds that they have released a few too many cosmetic DLC's to your liking. That seems quite silly to me.

He meant in terms of getting the same amount of content, if I'm not mistaken. Borderlands 1 didn't have extra characters, arenas, or item/skin packs, so they shouldn't be taken into the equation.

BL1 = 4 campaigns with built-in increased level cap
BL2 = 4 campaigns with separate increased level cap, but included with the season pass and at an overall lower price

A sequel usually does up the amount of classes, stuff, etc...

I don't feel like people should pay more then 60 bucks for more content in a sequel to a game...10 dollars a class is overkill, tons of skins is also a bit overkill, if anything it should be free as a sign of thanks or just left out...

Just my point of view, no one has to agree with me, I just think its a bit much.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm sorry, I should have phrased it "as opposed to what was released for Borderlands 1" since you brought up that "this kinda crap didn't happen with Borderlands 1..." My point was that you're getting as much content as the first game for less because there was no season pass option with the first game, and everything else is additional content, so why is it necessarily wrong for Gearbox to charge for additional content that they had to spend time and resources creating?

"I don't feel like people should pay more then 60 bucks for more content in a sequel to a game"

I'm not entirely sure if you mean 60 bucks including the cost of the base game or 60 bucks for just the DLC. I personally feel the DLC package in Borderlands 2 is fine, simply because the really important DLC, the ones that actually add quite a lot to the game, are all included in the Season Pass for $30.

The only thing I'm a bit annoyed about is exclusive pre-order/release day DLC. I understand why they do it, and that many times publishers twist the developer's arms to create them. I just personally won't buy into them.

You know how difficult characters are balanced in a game like borderlands 2? Not because every Cahr has 3 Skilltrees, but because every char can use every weapon fight every enemy etc. It takes a helll lot of time to balance these chars.
