Also my initial reaction. But the constant, dynamic environment with building options is a nice twist.

Actually I play a lot games with a controller and it is fun.... Playing Bastion for example or Tomb Raider is much more comfortable with a gamepad.

That's why I'm looking forward for SoD and I don't care about DeAthmatch wYth Zombies (aka DayZ). But I'm afraid it will be piss-poor port :( .
As for controller: it's early beta. They want to first be able to run game smoothly on PCs, then make keyboard+mouse work. Not sure if that's correct way (pretty sure GUI will be a victim with that line of thinking), but it's my money they won't get if they screw this.

Do you have something against single player games?
Comment has been collapsed.
But the fact that it's an Xbox 360 port does. As for buying a controller, you'd do it only once and enjoy many a game. But with your line of thinking you don't have to buy new CPU, or GPU, or what have you to play new game, i.e. everything should work on a programmable calculator, and if it doesn't it's wasting our time.

This is completely stupid what you say. For example i want the game "The last of us" a PS3 exclusive game. You dont hear me cry about that i need a PS3. Or if i have a X360 and i want a kinect game i need a connect that simple.
So if a PC game requires a controller i buy a controller, or i dont buy the game.
Maybe i need to mention it again because people tend to be o the bandwagon State of Decay DOES work with keyboard and mouse but is currently not officially supported.

I think you either misunderstood me or wanted to reply to another post - nowhere did I imply that "nobody should have the chance to buy", just wanted to point out that the fun factor of playing on a gamepad is quite diminished if you have to get a specific gamepad for playing a game.

They aren't saying "XBOX controller only" - they're saying "a wired Xbox 360 controller or wireless Xbox 360 controller with PC adapter (or compatible 3rd party controller), meaning any Xinput controller will work, fine :)

Didn't think it would release so soon but I'm glad it did. Played and beaten it on the 360, one of the best zombie games I played. Unfortunately for me the right trigger of my wired 360 controller is broken so I'll have to hold off for a while before buying. Definitely worth the $20, wonder if the updates from the 360 version have been added though.

.. Early access, beta, etc. The game's not done, or fully out yet. Sales figures, now, aren't going to be wholly representative of final sales figures on the finished game. Also, with such a gripe being present, you could also say they now have something to lampoon as positive, when M&K support's added, as part of marketing.
What bugs me is the lack of MP. Just watching the videos makes me tingle with a sense of wanting to build a camp and fight zambambos with friends and voice chat! Organised resistance to the ZAMBAMBO HORDES!

I find myself disliking Early access more and more as so many developers decide to release early builds of their games. They're releasing a PC game without PC controls supported...........come on :P Why not wait until they've at least added that before releasing it? Multiplayer would be nice, but as of now I just want the ability to play the game ^^

I get them - it's cheaper to release Early Access and receive various "game doesn't work on AMvidia GeDeon 7900-660" than buying every available CPU and GPU. And they want to first make sure game starts for everyone.
But I still +1, because who knows what troubles keyboard+mouse combo might bring to table that will only happen because they didn't thought about them from very start and now they need to rewrite half the code because otherwise... mouse invert won't work.

I have bought many as well, but I will definitely start slowing down now. My problem with early access is that people have different expectations for how finished the game is and no one controls how finished a game needs to be, before it's released as early access. For example, I was expecting at least some single player levels with Interstellar Marines, but they gave us barely any game at all, just some very basic multiplayer and some sandboxes to play around in for a total of 5 minutes. I feel like my money has been taken, and yet I don't actually have a game to play :P You will probably say that the same principle applies to a pre-order, but at least pre-orders give me a date to look forward to :S
I don't know what to expect with early access games, but when they don't even have mouse and keyboard support, my expectations are not high.

If you'd read this thread a bit more, you'd have seen that K&M work ingame, they're just not officially supported - meaning, you don't get on-screen prompts telling you what to press. Other than that, when you're buying "Early Access", it's solely your responsibility to familiarise yourself with a game before you purchase it. You could have checked out what exactly you'd be getting with Interstellar Marines before you bought it.. And if there's no clear description of what you get on the Steam store page, or videos on Youtube, and no other place on the net where you can Google and find, say, forum posts detailing such info., you simply shouldn't buy it; as, well, it's early access..

Like I said, mouse and keyboard are not supported :P
Actually no information was given regarding specific content in Interstellar Marines Early Access. They gave us an idea of gamemodes to expect, and I assumed after 5 years of development they would have a decent release ready. Regardless, games shouldn't be sold in such an incomplete state. I'm actually losing interest in the game because they've created so much hype only to release a sad build of the game that really needs some work done. I get it that they want the community to put their feedback into the game, but I'm not going to build the game for them.

Take Starforge for example, the stuff shown in the trailers when I bought it was not even in the game, more then half of the crap shown was not in it....

I agree with the general gist of what you say :)
Yes, it's lamentable that games get released so early.. Definitely. But that's why I kept the option of "don't buy" in my post ;). And specifically regarding Interstellar Marines, I too was interested in that game, but that's why I watched a few videos first, including TotalHalibut's "WTF is" of it where the dev is also on, and got a) the info. about just how little was in the game, and b) get a (quite negative and giving reluctance to buy) sense of the dev's perspective / professionalism / attitude. That's what made me decide not to buy until it was better, if it got better; I thought "well if it ever gets better, I don't mind paying more for it, then" ;).

There is no guarantee that a game will be in a decent state even at full retail release. (Aliens: Colonial Marines is an example.) That doesn't stop people from pre-ordering games months or even years in advance, even without anything playable. (You aren't even actually guaranteed that the game you pre-ordered will ever see release.)
Early Access is just pre-ordering with some form of playable builds made available before full release.
If you don't want to play incomplete games, then just don't bother with Early Access builds.
As for Interstellar Marines, that is a case of looking at the game's history. Interstellar Marines has, as you said, been in development for years. And honestly, at least in my opinion, it never really had much to show for that time during its history before Steam. It probably shouldn't be sold on Steam, but that isn't entirely an issue with Early Release, but rather Valve in general and the game's devs.

M/KB works, there's just no onscreen tutorial to show which key or mouse button corresponds to what and unless you are a brain dead zombie it shouldnt be hard to figure out, especially since people have posted the control layout in the community forum.
And no, it's not a piss poor port. It plays really well and smooth. Dont even compare it to crap like DayZ. I just love it when people comment without any sort of plausible idea when they have no experience about the things they are talking about. It makes you look like a fool.

You get to gather survivors and they'll fight with you at times if your have high enough influence.

I was all like "YEAH MAN COOL COOL THIS LOOKS COOL HAHAHA YAY YAY" then saw it's only single player.. I mean, come on. Really? No co-op party forming? No building an encampment together, sharing duties? No experiences with friends, fending off a horde by working together? Get serious, devs of this! This NEEDS MP.
Comment has been collapsed.
Nah, they said that they would do MP on this project because they would have to do a whole bunch of things to the system
Comment has been collapsed.
Not every single game needs co-op. I think they said they didn`t have plans for MP as it would take away from the survivng experience.
Comment has been collapsed.
To both of you, that's not what I said, and I realise what you guys said full well. That's why I gave reasons as to why I think co-op would be fun in this game. Imagine setting up camp with 3 friends, all of you on voice chat, each agreeing on taking on different roles / building different stuff for the team. Fighting together, driving together, being split up, healing each other. It could be done well. Although it was mostly pipe-dreaming.

I completely get your opinion, but still don't think the extra dev time is worth it or even warranted. I have seen so many games ruined by trying to cater to the MP/co-op group and my opinion is that if the game wasn't designed for it from the get-go, then don't mess with it. If this wasn't a port that was almost done, I'd be completely fine with it...

Yeah saw it also :D
Looks amazing , really thinking about buying it , I played the demo and it was really good :3

My god! How cheap are you guys? Seriously, specially beign a PC gamer, i mean a fucking Xbox 360 controller is not that expensive! And i pay almost 6x more times the price you pay in dollars, not counting the added value of beign an imported product which my fucking country loves to inflate.

You will never find more frugality or more unjustified self-deserving nature, than that of the video gamer
