Carlin was blunt and always on point and I still respect him and enjoy all his standups

Regarding politicians this is my favorite bit of his - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07w9K2XR3f0
Say what you want - hes got a point.. And it doesnt only apply to USA.. Try to look at your own country and see whats the problem. I dont have any political leanings as goes for parties - and seeing the circus going on its only easier to notice that the circus goes on just as much on citizens side as it goes on in the politics.. Morons voting morons in the office. Happens everywhere and will happen all the time because majority of people are dumb and arrogant

Kleptocracy is Romania's biggest problem, Chris. Not sure about your native Latvia, but over in my slice of paradise, these past 30 years of "democracy" have been nothing short of a money and time waste unless you were already at the top of the pyramid by inheriting from over 50 years of communism. Icing on the sh*t cake. The majority of Eastern Europe in a nutshell. Poverty and ignorance go hand in hand with equally poor life choices, including our much beloved elected officials.

As far as democracy go everythings fine in Latvia.. What you vote for is what you get (president is voted solely by parliament though, and those have been mostly people without political background, with poor English knowledge and overall an embarrassment for us, but as the president has no power over anything it doesnt matter much..)

Over the years the story with parliament is a tricky one - you are able to vote new people in it and we already have had 2 or 3 emergency firings of parliament (which is fucking ridiculous if you think about it). but all the old dogs just change the name of their party, stick a new face on front of it, make some unrealistic promises and they are in once again and everyone wonders what happened. Basically taking old senile people for a fools and persuading arrogant young people into believing miracles... But as far as democracy goes - everythings by the book..

There are enthusiastic young politicians who go in promising change, but mostly it fails miserably.. Last elections there was an ex-actor turned politician - used hidden cameras and microphones to catch corrupt politicians... He did well but the next election nothing changed still, same people voted in.. In the end he turned on his voters and became one of the people who he tried to sniff out..
A lot of new politicians either turn over to "the dark side" and forget promises and their voters or they are shunned out of politics by the old politicians who have media in their pocket..

At the moment we have a politician who is a lawyer and he is fighting every other politician who has ever did something illegal.. He posted online some time ago on how our minister of parliament has millions of Euros going through off shore accounts without any proof of legality. Shady deals from the past etc.. But many people dont believe him and call him populist. Will see how his political career will turn out, but I dont have high hopes for anything

Just goes to show which kind of people are truly the uncivilised and violent ones... Though they do have most aggressive propaganda...

I think the two party system you have is the reason you are getting fucked over like this... turnout for previous elections was mere 55% . something had to cause such a low turnout
I dont like Trump, but I didnt particularly like Clinton as well and previous elections I wasnt bit surprised that Trump won..

And now you have Biden against him.. Im not the fountain of political knowledge.. not even close, so these are just my opinions that have formed surfing the internet and they might not be based on any particular facts.. but having Biden against Trump - I wont be surprised if Trump will be elected again

I don't even understand what is going on with Democrats and picking Biden... A candidate with absolutely clear indications of dementia and masses of video evidence suggesting him to be quite a bit too friendly with random kids...

Don't they really have any competent liars like Obama left?

Explanation for you. Biden did not do well during the debates or early primaries and the DNC was looking for a stronger candidate. They were hoping that one of the others like like Warren, Klobuchar, Buttigieg or Harris would pull out in front and cable news pushed them pretty hard for a while. But when they all performed poorly in the early primaries and starting dropping out, it became clear that Sanders might very well win and they couldn't have a candidate that was threatening to dismantle the party. So North Carolina happened, Biden got a very crucial endorsement which enabled him to sweep the state and then Obama started making phone calls and deals with the remaining candidates. Obama finally endorsed Biden (no doubt he was waiting for someone better too) which enabled to him to get a very strong showing for Super Tuesday. Sanders, still with a very strong base and plenty of money and support, dropped out April 8. Many think he should have stayed in.

SG polls about politics don't matter (politic polls in general don't matter, remember almost all medias telling Clinton was much ahead vs Trump in 2016?). The only "poll" that matters is the actual election.
I think that you get what you deserve. That's how democracy works. I'm not saying he's good or bad, I like him or not. I don't know him and simply don't care. If he's there it's because people voted for him (I know, US election system is kind of weird, but as far as I know it has been used for previous elections as well). Someone does not like him? Sure thing, it's impossible to be loved by everyone. But again, we'll see in the next elections. Time will tell.

I'm not from the US so for me looking at the news from the outside my reaction usually goes somewhere along the line of "what? why? how?" pretty much every time. It's weird and a bit surreal, almost as if he's uncapable of acting or talking like a normal person.

The point was to get answers on the poll. If there is a way to disable comments on these I would have. Entering the poll is anonymous and doesn't require a comment of any kind. I also (foolishly) asked for only civil comments, not that that made a difference

He isn't the worst leader in power right now, but that is a low, low bar and says far more about the state of the world than his competency or decency. People are still dying and suffering because of him, and it makes me sick.

I don't doubt he'll be elected again. Or rather, I've given up hoping for anything better, for any election held anywhere.

I have actually been wondering if Trump has gone a little dithery in his old age. We were just comparing some very old videos of him talking, to some of those today and he sounded a lot more intelligent in the older ones. It does make you question whether there's something neurological going on with him. His behaviour on Twitter is pretty crazy. Of course his fans will stick up for him no matter what and put anyone down who questions their president.

I don't really like him as a person. I do think he's a bit of a tosspot either way. But it does make me wonder how someone can be so silly as to openly ask something like "Could we inject disinfectant or something like that?" or start Twitter fights with North Korea.

I really like his politics, and i also really like him as a person. I 100% agree with him most times. Although i'm not very well read on US politics. (Although his statement about injecting desinfectant into the lungs for Covid-19 was pretty dumb). Many lefties here i see...
