Yes!
Nope.. any old usb adapter will do fine.
I'm pretty sure I've used an Apple AC adapter for my snes mini. I'm sure most adapters would work.

It's just typical Nintendo cash grab.
I own NES mini and have no problems using my old USB charger with it.

The European versions don't incl the AC plug, just the cable, and I just got my hands on the NES/SNES Mini consoles.
