So this is a PSA for trading on this website, and trading in general.

Earlier today, I got scammed. (Message log here: https://puu.sh/rCJKg/0fca5810d7.png)

Please, when trading, DO NOT let them add you, YOU add them via looking at their profile FROM HERE.

This "person" who scammed me acted like another user. Yes, I was a complete idiot in that chat log, I'm not even mad that I got scammed. I'm mad

because he uses this account that LOOKS legit (He has 13 years on his steam profile and copies everything to the last detail.) and I know for a fact that he has done this before, and will do it again.

Don't be an idiot like I was. (Or maybe still am)

"Due to my reputation on SteamGifts I cannot go first"
Reply: "You added me, you want to do this, so yes, you can."

Even if you know you are dealing with the genuine article, the only acceptable reason for anyone to ever use this excuse to force the other to go first if you have zero feedback here. If they added you because they want to do the deal, then they can also go first. If they refuse, then you can always find another trade partner.

Yeah I should practice this. I'm too loose with people.

Report them to SteamRep.

I'm pretty sure the account that was used is just a scam only account.

I'm sure he/she logs into his/her's real account to activate the key.

Of course, but traders search for Steam accounts on SteamRep. If you report it on there, it could help future traders not get scammed.

Never ever go first when they want to pay with Paypal. If you're trading games, I can understand why you should go first, but when it comes to real money, it's only logical that they pay first (like everywhere else). Also, if they say something like "Due to my reputation on SteamGifts I cannot go first" you almost know it's a scammer. Reputable traders would not word it like that.

I was personally scammed by an impersonator once as well, but since it was from humble I asked them to revoke the key. They even gave me a new one.

So you're saying I can revoke the key if I contact HB?

You should be able to though I have never done it personally. Just say you added the game on the wrong account or something like that since trading their games is technically against the ToS.

im not 100% sure they actually bother with the revoke personally. i'd bet they just give a replacement key and don't bother notifying the dev to revoke it, but i could be wrong.... at any rate though they most likely would at least replace it.

Possibly. Although you may not want to say you got scammed because trading is officially not allowed. You can get a replacement key, but I don't know whether they'll revoke it or not. Just make sure to come up with a reason that is not against their ToS but still a good enough reason for them to replace the key (key already used or left the computer running with the key visible or something).

What game was it?

Also I've never seen somebody actually admit to scamming. That's a new one for me.

Yeah, they usually just suddenly forget how to type...

At least this one is honest about that :p

That's great, but being so cheap to scam for that small amount. It's just a tad bit depressing.
Good job with successfully dealing with a scammer though. Congratz.

Thanks. And it really is sad, just the fact that he pretty much gloated about it is crazy.

P.S. (It's "Yea" and "Nay." Not to be confused with "Yeah," which is the lazy way of saying "Yes.")

Aye. I bought a gift from a friend who bought it from a scammer, so the gift was eventually revoked (stolen credit card). My friend had to buy the gift all over, again. (
