Well, Steam is redefining the Moore law for published video games, since it seems every 12–18 months they double the available games on their storefront. Considering larger publishers have a lower output in number of titles (since really large ones are trying to sell "live services", the shameless cheeky bastards) and the high-grade indie scene is almost like a unicorn, it is not difficult to guess what bloats Valve's little legalised money print.

You've inspired me. I normally browse through multiple pages of crap without entering anything but starting today I'm going to go down the long road of hiding the mounds of crap I usually sift through on a regular basis.
Out with the garbage!

After a while of hiding the games you're not interested in, it really starts to pay off. I normally add a handful each day. Up to over 10K hidden now, but the benefit is when I look at all the new giveaways added for today, it fits on less than a single page.

^gives me something to aspire to. ;-) I have quite a few games still showing on the giveaway list that I don't enter, but I'm still not entirely sure that I want to hide them - because I might want to play them at some point in the future. I find I sometimes see a surprising review of a game that I might not have interest in at first - or sometimes I develope interest in something I completely had no interest in initially. Like I initially had no interest in the Truck Sims but after reading their forums I removed them from my ignore list because I read how much the players loved them and can now see myself being a trucker ;-).

I've been hiding the junk games the past two weeks and it has made navigating the site better. In the past I would just hide games the site would allow me to enter despite owning... Now I just hide anything I wouldn't want. It's a pain to have to check the steam pages to determine if they belong hidden since there's so much shit worth hiding, but nothing can be done about that.

Depending of addon you use you may filter games/ga with low point value (under 10p for example)
(and it also reduces number of ga you can or need to enter/click to spend you sg points)

It's not the fault of SG, in the slightest, and I would argue that some people making the GAs are also not malicious - they see cheap games and want to "give back to SG".
I doubt this assumption. SG is a CV game. CV was introduced to encourage more giveaways, and it does that. And because it's cheapest to make CV from bundles of crap, that's what people do. So I'd say that it's just a side effect of SG's normal operation, and therefore in large part it is a fault of SG.

the CV present mechanical was established before of the flood of garbage, if I don't mistake.
not saying CV has to be changed (enough threads about that already), only observing.

CV by itself would work, if we didn't have bundles and a big amount of crappy games. Which was initially the case. But even in the current situation, where there are tons of bundles of crappy games, having less incentive to give would reduce the number of giveaways, but I think it would mainly reduce the number of crappy giveaways.
I don't think that eliminating CV at this point would really help, because it won't change the mentality of people here. That's also the reason it's unlikely to be dropped. People here judge others by CV and won vs. gifted.

Sad, the sea of garbage on steam prevents some niche indie games from being discovered. I too have a "is this a real game" filter on when I browse steamgifts or steam. In the long run this will hurt steam and take credibility away as it's filled with nonsense shit someone made in 10 minutes.

i not understand why steam not able people to create + filters that apply also to the deals or new games page, only 3 tag can do and it not work too in deals or ne games page, i send an email to valve too btw for this hope they fix it is boring to go page new games or deals and see all games about achievements, click only or anime image only that i dont like.
p.s. the title is so lol hahaha

Oh, you mean the GAs I made TWO YEARS ago before this was nearly as pervasive as it is now, and when I was simply buying bundles and giving away the games I had no interest in? Or do you mean the ones that just ended, which were for games I've had in my inventory for years, want to get rid of, and thought someone here might like? You're right, I'm part of the problem, I've never made a giveaway for a real game someone might want to play. Every game I've EVER given away has been a terrible asset flip or reskin. I don't know what I was thinking. My apologies.

Well, you literally answered your own question about why people giveaway such games. If you don't see my point, you are either blind, or hypocrite.
Also, I never stated that you ONLY gave away garbage, but I see that it was a pain point of yours.

I am so, so sick of the achievement spam, asset flipping, etc in the video games listed on SG. It's not the fault of SG, in the slightest, and I would argue that some people making the GAs are also not malicious - they see cheap games and want to "give back to SG". It's to the point where my standards for entering a giveaway are literally "is this a real game".
I just really needed to rant about this, thanks for letting me. <3
