Consider a random guy called Paul Nosey

He got an enormous nose. His self-esteem is extremely low because of it. His surname has constantly been referred as a sign of his big nose during all his life. Despite that, all his big-nosed relatives are comfortable with their noses and tell him it should not annoy him. He's still depressed, though.

But it could be helped! He got a plastic surgery and changed his name to Paul Adams. His parents are ashamed now, 'cause his son doesn't seem to like their family name, that was a reason of pain for him because it remembers him how he was before and how people referred to him. He still loves them, but it's his life, though.

When you have a son or a daughter, you don't have the right to decide how they will live forever, after all, they are different people, aren't they? If he's happy now and is not harming anyone, it should suffice. If even their parents don't have that right, of course other people also don't. Unanimous, right?

Even so, Paul Adams now is told that his new nose is fake. It's in his genes, and people remember him that his biological kids will have big noses, 'cause biologically his nose is still big. For them, his new appearance is purely aesthetic. But c'mon, that was exactly what he wanted. No more, no less. But people also refuse to call him Paul Adams, since they are used to his old name. They often use the previous reason to tell that's their right.

That's crazy, isn't it? They want to decide Paul Adams' identity more than himself! Identity is maybe the only thing you really own in your life, and other people can't own it for you. That's unanimous, right? Well.
