30,005 to be exact, games and DLCs that I have hidden on Steamgifts.

I hide a lot of giveaways because I really only enter for games I'm going to play and probably enjoy.
I'm really not interested in a lot of genres on Steam, and I find myself hiding more and more games.
Hidden object? No thanks. Visual novel? Nah. Hentai tentacle milf puzzle? No for the 100th time, seriously stop already.

Anyway, as I said last time, people like me hiding games is a good thing for some of you that want to add to your ever-growing collection. It's good that Steamgifts gives everyone the choice to pick and choose what they like, and whether you're just entering giveaways for +1 to your library, or you've had it wishlisted for months, or you just can't resist another open-world early access survival crafting game... go for it. Enjoy the games, enjoy entering and giving away something, because there's always someone who will appreciate winning. The giveaways keep on flowing thanks to tens of thousands of awesome Steamgifts members.

For newcomers, or those who forgot, you can find how many games you have hidden here:
https://www.steamgifts.com/account/settings/giveaways/filters

And you can change your filter settings here:
https://www.steamgifts.com/account/settings/giveaways

2016: I had hidden over 9000! games, which was cause for my first celebration of this kind.
2019: I hit 20,000 and figured it was a good reason for another celebratory giveaway discussion thread.
2022: Yay, 30,000 fewer games clogging up my front page!
2025: Can I make it to 40,000? Probably, considering how many games are released each month.

So I guess you were hoping there might be some AAA giveaways in here? Sorry to disappoint. It really wouldn't be fitting, would it?
But if you're looking for some hot trash, I've got your covered! (Just kidding, there's some good ones in here too, some of which I own already)

All aboard...

I hide a lot, but sometimes I go back to unhide some games that I become interested in at a later date, usually because I stumbled on a review or a recommendation that changed my initial impression.

I was gonna say 0 but apparently I did hide a few back in the day, namely 431.

You see even when I was still entering giveaways I never understood this approach...
Wouldn't it be waaaaaay more efficient to add games you are interested in to your wishlist instead of adding every new asset flip and piece of shovelware to your Ignore list? It's like a game of Whack-a-mole. Back in the day I mostly used the Wishlist tab to find giveaways I'm interested in and every now and then I would browse the normal tab to see if I can maybe spot something new and intersting.

It's not even as if Steam could look into it and remove certains games from the store if a lot of people hide them, because it's done here on SG and not on Steam, right?

Heh. I'm almost on the same number and on the same reasons xD
On some point I decided that its easier to add new-found game to WL on Steam (to be able to find more giveaways for it) than hiding every game with promising title or picture (but some of them I do ignore on Steam to never return to checkout it again)

Actually, there is a way to sync you Ignored games on Steam with SG if you use the ESGST extension. It has a feature called Hidden Games Manager that can hide all of your Ignored games with a single click.

You're welcome. Just be careful not to get rate-throttled out of SG because this can easily generate thousands of requests. I dunno, maybe you're immune to this as a Mod :-)

You might want to use ESGST's Use custom adaptive request limits for SteamGifts. setting to limit the rate of requests.

Yeah, you'll definitely hit SG's rate limit with that many (possibly Steam's as well), even as low as a few thousands were enough for me to hit it when I used the Hidden Games Manager to hide my owned games and DLCs... heck, I hit it just browsing this train!

563 games hidden, most of them not actually being actual games (what I mean by not actual games: cheap asset flips, CV farm games), stopped hiding them and just started blacklisting creators for such games as they don't have interest in providing something that isn't just a +1, plus what will make them change in the future? It's clearly for them to profit. A lot of the games being hidden include VR games, as my way of playing VR games without a headset didn't really work out, despite my first ever win being a VR only game, games like Popup Dungeon, Planets Under Attack.

Oh that there was a way to
1) sync with our ignored list at Steam.
2) filter automatically by genre (realizing that this could a bit "dangerous"
3) filter based upon words in the title. (For me zombie, hentai, football, etc. etc. etc.)

For anyone who does not use ESGST (and I am sure there are other scripts that enable the same), ESGST allows games to be hidden with a single click instead of the standard two clicks needed.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

#1 is possible with a single click using ESGST's Hidden Games Manager - See my reply to EWolf1850

#2 & #3 can also be done using ESGST if you have the store page URLs for all the games you want to hide.

I don't know about genres, but you can filter steam games by user tags at https://steamdb.info/tags. Then, you need a way to get all the app ids. I personally use a Firefox extension called linkclump which lets me copy link URLs in bulk by simply dragging the mouse. From there, it's just a matter of formatting the URLs in a text editor and pasting them into ESGST's manager.

Complicated? Maybe. But much more efficient than individually hiding things as you encounter them.

30.000 is a lot of work !

It would be cool if we could not only synchronize owned games and wishlisted games,
but games ignored on Steam too (i guess it's not possible actually because it's steam-side ?)
That would be useful on gg.deals too, actually games ignored on Steam can't be filtered on gg.deals.
This and maybe a column at left of the games list on Steam with box to tick/untick to ignore a game in one clic ?

Thanks for the train ! ^_^

I'm on a steady path with about 1,8k in 8 months. Most often it's flips, ost, sexual or focused on food. Reason for the latter being, I'm focused on food enough without being reminded about it 24/7. (;

Also sometimes, the feature comes in handy temporarily when a very big bundle drops and the list of giveaways becomes overwhelming.

Indeed. I've only kick-started this filtering effort pretty recently, so only 700 hidden, but it's satisfying and quickly becoming a project.

wtf is "overpriced trash" and how can it be exploited/abused?

As very fast answer:
https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/eIkkz/are-these-overpriced-games-being-created-to-farm-cv-on-sg-update-all-games-now-give-0-cv

High priced on steam, sold for 5 - 20 cents on shady, mostly Russian, store sites.

Some users gone then really hard down with the cv.
As example from $1,600 --> $159 (Level 7 --> 4)
I describe this ones as abusing/exploiting people.

Other ones gone because of, nearly, only giving freebies away hard down, after the support handled now my 550 open tickets and around 400 from other people.
$5,676 --> $3,285 (Level 10 --> 9)
Over 6k freebies, of 9k games that he gave away. And that aren't all, they are only the ones that listed now as free (more will be added "soon").

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

which part of giving away freebie is reportable??

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Nothing. That's why those people aren't "reported" or punished - they simply have their fake CV taken away they cheated themselves by distributing digital diarrhoea.

Also freebies have nothing to do with this. Those are 0 CV by default.

None.

I appreciate it when someone make a GA for one copy of a freebie. I don't appreciate it when someone make GAs for 5 or 20 copies of the same freebie that he collected somewhere for free -and other ones got nothing because of that-.

But this special person collect, or should i better say steal?, with up to 77 accounts on each freebie site + with the help of bots, freebies that he give then, partly, away on sg.
Thousands of freebies that cheated thousands of cv because the freebies aren't/weren't marked as free at that time.
And of course are this GAs used to cheat/fake group stats (the steam price is calculated, not if a game is full, reduced or free cv).

This isn't the behavior that a normal/honest person would have, or did you see this different ?

From my point of view it would be easier to perma suspend such, abusive, people (multiaccounter on other sites, bot user for helping in such tasks), as to set thousands of games to reduced/free.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I probably didn't happen to see this "special person". And yeah, using that many accounts to gather freebies only to dump them here doesn't sound like something normal person would do. Maybe I misunderstood your previous comment, because I didn't know what the phrase "hard down" means.
I thought what you meant included even the normal freebie collecting using 1 account on different sites. That way it's not hard to get a multiple copies of game you already own. In such occasions it seems quite normal to end up with tens or a hundred of spare keys that can't be sold, so giving them away is only the option.

Comment has been collapsed.

Sorry, "gone hard down" wasn't perfect written. I mean the cv skyrocketed down (falling a lot). In this case $2,400 in a few days.

I never wanted to say something against someone that collect with one account freebies. When he collect 200, different, freebies and/or on each site only with one account, is all ok and a lot would be happy about such GAs.

Sorry, "gone hard down" wasn't perfect written. I mean the cv skyrocketed down (falling a lot).

Normally I try not to do this but since you're pondering what's the best way to say this I'll make an exception. I hope it doesn't come off rude.

Skyrocketed down doesn't work. The basic way to say it would be plummeted or if you wanna go with a metaphor it went down like a lead balloon.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Thanks for the Infos :o)

Hm, the word "plummeted" i never seen or heard before (but it fit from the translation) and the metaphor sounds strange for me because a lead balloon is slow.
I thought the skyrocketed down would show how fast it got down but as you see, sometimes is it limiting when a language isn't your native one.

Ein Beispiel das man relativ häufig hört ist "The stock market plummeted." oder "Now that the chip shortage is getting better prices for GPUs are plummeting."
