So I was scammed a few minutes ago... it was a very cheap lesson for me... ($5.7) (I thought I was a smartass, but I got my lesson... I should be more careful)
But I just dont understand...
I mean "Really!!!" Is it worth it? Is it worth $5.7 to scam another? I mean how can human honor/self respect be so "cheap".
I always respects thieves / bandits... As they use the most expensive capital of all time... their lives... they took risks so they choose their targets carefully. It must be worth it... But scamming a steam user for 6 bucks /with no risk at all... and losing your self respect (if any)... I don't think it is worth it... What do you think?

A small "thanks" for your comments... a whitelist GA! Hope you dont have it...

You dumb... it is worth every penny. For even 1 cent If I am sure there is no way to be caught, I go for it. F..k self respect
For $5.7 .... No... may be for $570 ... that is good money... if the other part is dumb enough then they deserve it.
Not even for 5.7 million... I never risk my neck... and it is wrong on so many levels...
Karma is a bitch! Be careful...

I never killed anyone it was the gun that killed, besides despite all that i have done away with i still have awesome Karma so that must mean it was okay.

Ahh fuck it i say kill everything that moves, you never know if he will scam you.

To the OP

I know how you feel i also got scammed once, though i just learned never trade anything your not willing to risk or lose.Though do you not know Steam put all these restrictions in to make it safer? lol

I mostly trade bundle game left overs so t he risk/loss for me is pretty low if i do,the only other time i do other trades now is if i really know the person or it is within steam itself but i still do not trade what i am not willing to risk.

Good lesson and at least it is a cheap one, guess you will not get that big mac and large fries now you will starve,Karma is a bitch

I like your comment that "I always respects thieves / bandits... As they use the most expensive capital of all time... their lives... they took risks so they choose their targets carefully. So it must be worth it.."
Well, I agree with the first part, as for choosing carefully or it being worth it.. Remember, there are a lot of idiots in this world (most people) and many are reckless and not careful at all. As for me I don't believe in stealing from individuals. Corporations however, that have billions and don't care about the individual, nations, religions, or anything besides their profit margin - I think stealing from them is more like stealing from a monster. And heroes steal from monsters all the time in stories lol
But being serious, you never truly know other people. If you're going to assume someone's actions, it's a safer bet to assume people will always act out of selfish reasons. So just increase your security measures, and be more careful. Like you said, a cheap lesson to learn!

I totally agree... Somehow stealing from Monster Corporations seems ok to me... (I know... seems a bit biased)
and as said it is a "job" in my definition... You put a capital,You take a risk, You use your talents/wits/etc...
but scamming a couple of bucks is cheap...and low... imho

Steal = steal. Doesn't matter if u steal because u r hungry or just for fun = YOU ARE THIEF. And being thief is always bad. Well, there is one exception - if you rob thiefs then it's ok, but only if u took very small profit from that - rest should return to owners if possible or go for charity.

I agree, we do need people like that, to keep the machines going. But, the world isn't black and white. How does Elitar view things such as people stealing to survive? And if it's okay to steal from thieves, then what about stealing from a company if they stole an invention from the inventor? What about other things that aren't black and white like the Global Economy? Economic Sanctions against countries such as Iran and North Korea? The war on drugs when marijuana is illegal in some places but legal in others. The whole world is shades of gray. I think most people who rigidly adhere to laws do so because they couldn't cope with the world otherwise. It does make things easier. But yes, those people are needed, to keep the world spinning around. Funny though how the people in charge of things see in shades of gray though...

This is absolutely true. But you're talking about theft on a large scale. For the individual thief stealing from a company, the reward is still there as the amount prices will go up isn't significant for the individual. The company will never raise prices so large as to make them unfordable. Prices are generally already as high as they can get them to sell a decent volume. It's not like companies sell products for cheap until someone steals it. Prices start out as high as they can steadily sell product.

Think of it along the lines of "You gave them $5.70 and so did 50 other people"

Scamming $5.70 from 50 people is easier then getting $50 from 1.

Well you have 2 options, either move on and forget about it.
Or you can open a dispute and see that maybe you'll be able to get a refund that way.

Edit: P.S. Although I suggest you report him everywhere, specially on SteamRep so that it'll be unlikely he'll do this to someone else as well.

For a 11 year old kid 5 bucks are a lot of money, because he only gets 5 bucks pocket money from his jobless fat mother. So thats the same as we get 2.000$ or EUR ... 5 bucks are a lot of money for a litte fat child.

Reading other peoples' profiles is stalking.. Seriously... Also, I wrote that profile 3 years ago (or so), when I was freakin' 17.. I just never bothered to change it. I mean, besides adding in those AC quotes. I haven't even changed the PC specs.. I don't even know what to write. lol But yeah, as you understand, I ended up doing what I decided not to do. Isn't it such a shame? Oh wait, it isn't! It's amazing as Hell. Well, to be honest, Hell is far more amusing and awesome, but you know...

Looking at the Steam profile of someone you're writing to is stalking?.. Seriously? A profile text is meant to be read, otherwise you wouldn't need it, right?

The thing is most people would consider 2000 EUR a lot of money and wouldn't like to be scammed for it - even if they earned much more. It's far from nothing at all but if it is to you, consider donating. It's a lot for others. Or create some giveaways.

People forget themselves. They think that the gain of something that is ultimately unimportant, or the avoidance of something that is only mildly annoying, is worth tarnishing their soul. They forget that they will be held accountable, and that every last little thing will be paid for, one way or another. That is why they lie, and cheat, and steal, trading what is priceless for what is worthless, until it becomes a habit. After that, they lie, cheat, and steal even when there is nothing to be gained at all.

Keep good habits, and avoid bad habits. It takes a major effort to improve oneself.

It's easy to do something bad to someone when you don't get to see the consequences. When all you see of someone is a few lines of text on a screen, it's far too easy to forget that the person behind that text is actually another human. Most of these scammers would probably not be able to do something like this if they met you face to face, because then you're suddenly a human.

We all know that this is not an excuse but a fact. Right?... This fact should make us more careful in this virtual world.

I am talking about real "harm" caused. I hate about crying whiners when they lost a PvP or multiplayer game or people talking about "virtual rape" when you have full control to walk away. (literately)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Such behavior is still just another side of the same coin. While scamming someone is more harmful than behaving really badly in a game (unless you actually strike a really soft spot, imagine someone who has actually been raped and who has to endure people thinking it's fun to do a "virtual rape", or someone who lost a loved one in an accident and someone "jokes" about wishing that someone close to that person dies in that way, that can hurt a lot more than the loss of a few $, even if you don't realize it), the underlying psychology that makes people act in such ways is still the same.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That is a valid point imho... But still I dont think a person who lost his parents in a car hijack would like to play GTA... There are tons of other games in which he/she can drive safely... Every action in this virtual world has its "real life" consequences just like in real world. I am aware... So just like in real world you choose your buddies, and behave yourself... But in a game... it is just a game man... nothing more... That is my 2 cents...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

SG ate my first reply, it might show up again later..

While someone who was beaten during a carjacking might well not play GTA, as that person will know what the game is about, someone who has lost a close one in an accident, been assaulted due to his or her sexual preferences or skill colour might still do that. It's the same lack of empathy due to not seeing the other person that allows someone to scam someone else that allows someone to wish death upon someone else's family members online. Two sides of exactly the same coin.

Permalink

If we over-analyze/over-value/over-empathy every game then it is impossible to play 90% of the games. Even cute ones. But I got you point and appreciate the replies...

I did not think we were talking about the value of the games, but the way people acted towards each other, and that your virtual rape thing was directed at the incident where a group of people did that towards another person....

I got scammed this week.
The deal was 3 games of mine for 3,5 paypal. I try to trust rep on his steam profile, since here was +0-0.
Sent him a key out of 3, in good faith, then waited for payment, and after I went offline for one hour, i return and see that He blocked me.
Add him with friend account, made him add me again, and after a while he gave 4 cards and 20 gems for a game that I price tag 90cents.
So, tried to scam me for 90cent game. Ridiculous.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ridiculous is really the best word to describe that.

Always remember: Profile rep is not worth anything!
Actually, only when someone went last (and thus having the opportunity to scam) rep is worth something, which is why I always write detailed rep (games traded, price/payment method, who went first).
