This option would be especially useful in invite-only giveaways (e.g. trains), where the giveaway simply isn't listed in the giveaways list and cannot currently be added to the filter. There's no point in seeing games I don't care for in the list. I would prefer to filter them out instead of having to think every time whether I should enter a giveaway or not.
