So I've registered on Groupees recently and got a free Steam key for Pretentious Game. I already have it, so I've decided to make a GA for it. The guy who won it claims that the key has been used already, which is a bit odd, but he looks legit enough for me to believe him. I've decided to write to Groupees support to fix that and my question is, can their support check whether the key was activated (and if so, when)? Also, did that happen to any of you guys? What did you do?

EDIT: Okay, I've rechecked my GAs and it seems I actually used the same code again, because it got linked to the account I've created on groupees.

make sure they've re-tried it several times- sometimes when steam servers busy and/or internet interruptions it mistakenly says duplicate

Okay, I'll ask the winner to give it a try.

How can groupees know it was already activated unless they have access to the steam database?

Usually bundle sites are easy and helpful, though they might have no access to more keys of that game, but never hurts to try.

Worse case you can always earn a copy on tremorgames http://www.tremorgames.com/index.php?action=shop&search_category=0&searchterm=pretentious

That's what I'm asking, IF they have any possibility to check that. I don't have any insight in the Steam <-> bundle sites relationships :P

Worse case scenario I'll just buy it, it's not really expensive at all, but it's just annoying for a GA to come around and bite you in the ass (unless I'd like to end up with a 'not received' status.

No they don't.

There are so many ways of a GA coming around and bite you in the ass.

Don't know really, registered, bought a bundle and it was there in my 'game wallet' (not a part of the bundle).

Check the winners library if he activated it and is lying, you will see the game in their library.
If they say its a dupe and its not in their library chances are its a dupe

Ah, alright, that makes sense!

But what if he plans to trade or give the key to someone else. The game will still not be in their library, and there is no way knowing if the key is duplicate or the person is lying. :/

Edit: Sorry was meant to reply to sicknate.

Good point..i have no idea how you would proceed then....i guess keep an eye on this user and see if they open a trade...unless he already made the arrangements to trade and was just waiting for the key to do so..

I've done that obviously :P He has activated all of his gifts (much better ones too) and his ratio is 15 won 18 given, so it doesn't really make any sense for him to try to scam me on this insignificant key.

Then, i personally would assume its a dupe..
To answer one of your questions, i received a dupe from a giveaway once, i added the user and politely told them it was a duplicate. After checking whatever he needed to check, he apologised for it and actually went and acquired a new key for me (this may be your only option)..i even told him (or her) that they have my blessing if they contact support and request an ended giveaway deletion...though idk if thats even possible

Yeah, I also think it's the Groupees' fault, but we'll see what will be their response.

and be sure to check winner first (their game library)

Well, you can if the winner agrees. So if you can't get another key, there's always this option (but getting a key for this game should be pretty easy & cheap)

you could, like tempete said
as long winner agree and there's chat log (print screen) and then report it to support

too bad i dont have spare key before, still kinda feel bad about it

I've checked Group Buys, there's a guy that still has a key left for this in the bundle leftovers section, for $0.25

After all, 90% of all issues is just human error it seems :P
