Hi everyone!
I'm buying a Steam Controller tomorrow and I'd like to buy something new to try it.
I recently played "Mirror's Edge Catalyst" and I really love the feeling of flow that game provides, so I was thinking about getting "A Story About My Uncle", is that game good? Does it work well with a SC?
I'm open to any suggestion, help me please!

PS: I have about 12€ on Steam.

Pretty much all games can work well with the Steam Controller, it just requires some time to learn how to configure it to your liking. There's also a bit of a learning curve when it comes to just handling the controller. I've yet to see anyone just pick an SC up and be amazing with it. Once you've gotten used to it of course, it can be far more accurate than any regular controller could ever be... but you have to get over that initial hump.

To help get used to it, I found the best thing is to play games you're already familiar with instead of jumping into new games. If I absolutely had to recommend a game though, I'd say System Shock 2. It's a game that would be impossible to play with a regular controller and despite being quite old now (still a fantastic game!), it just works beautifully on the SC. The interface feels like it was made for it.

There's also this guy on Youtube that made a ton of videos about the SC, including game recommendations for it:

Have you tried it with fighting games by any chance? I am used to the D-Pad for Dead or Alive and KoF, so I'm a bit worried about that.
Thanks so much for your answer :3

Fighting games is probably the weakest category of games you can play with SC. You can play them, I've played DoA and some of the older MK games on it for example but it's not the optimal controller for those.

I actually find miself comfortable on DoA5, using both trackpads for the dpad and buttons. It felt natural for me. (Also if you still play DoA add me, I'm always looking for new people to play with! If you'd like to, of course :3)

Didn't know that about "A Story About My Uncle", I'll see then. I'm getting used to it in the meantime and it feels really good!

Why not play a game that you can't play with a regular controller? An RTS for example? That's what the Steam controller is all about right? Being able to play anything? I think you will find the Steam Controller is a jack of all trades, master of none controller. It has a pretty long learning period of getting used to it as well. Games designed for a controller in mind will always feel better with normal controllers (Xbox 360, Xbox One), but the cool thing is you can switch between any genre with the Steam Controller no problem.

For an RTS I recommend Dawn of War Soulstorm with the Ultimate Apocalypse mod installed. Massive RTS game right here.

Another good RTS is Company of Heroes with the Eastern Front mod

Good luck with your Steam Controller, I unfortunately have stopped using mine. I much prefer switching between Xbox 360 controller and mouse and keyboard for each game.

I'm not much into RTS, I bought it because of First Person games, since I struggle with the camera on controllers, and my wrists get sore if I play too long with M+K.
It's working really well and I got used to it relatively fast, a couple of hours and I'm all set. I'm currenty playing The Binding of Isaac Rebirth, some 2D platforms and Dead or Alive 5 and it feels really good.

I really like my SC but I don't think it works for every game. Twin stick shooters for example. That could just be me though :) I'd actually choose a standard 360 pad over the SC if I was doing FPS, but then I spent so much time on CoD4 back in the day it's maybe just learned behavior :)

Road to Ballhalla was good, but it doesn't really use the right... stick? pad? area thing? I imagine RTS would work really well, or Diablo-style hack n slash (I recommend Victor Vran).

I find myself very comfortable with Twin Stick shooters, I play The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth with it and it's awesome with the right configuration

It may be a little bit late but don't buy a SC if you play games out of steam environement too. Buy xbox controller instead you will be more happy..

I mostly play on Steam, and I got the emulators to work with the Steam Controller anyway. I'm happy with the purchase, it takes a little time to get used to it, but it's very comfortable

What is the difference between this and the xbox controller? The xbox controller still seems to be more versatile.

Well, it's really subjective but I find it much easier to control First Person games with the trackpad, and the d-pad is very customizable, and I find it more comfortable than the X360 one (never tried the XBone pad tho). Once I got used to the new layout (it only took me a couple of hours) I really started enjoying it. Up until now I've played many games, some of them have a very complex buttons scheme (Sonic Generations for example) and they all work very well. The selling points are the trackpads, imho.
