This is true unless you are using Torrents, torrents automaticly upload bits of data while you are downloading aswell, thus making it illegal.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You are right. Partially. You can always set your torrent just to leech (I'm not doing this, am not that kind of scumbag :D)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Not necessarily. If you're the only leecher at the time you're downloading, or if you've disabled uploading yourself, you won't be sharing anything.

Where is "here" where this is legal?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Imma from Poland ^^
but it works only with music and movies, programms and games are still illegal (I do not remember why thou, maybe because you can eventually see almost every single movie in public tv)

In few words, you can "use" an opus that was already shared before and it's not covered by copyrights. You can even share the work with your family.

Software is protected by copyrights always.

I hardly doubt there are many countries where pirating is legal.
For example here where I'm from (Romania) everybody seams to think it's legal when in fact it isn't and the legislation is pretty clear about it.
It's just that nobody actually does anything unless the tracker/streaming service owners are asking money for this, if someone sues you or if you are a maniac and start downloading everything you see.
And of course if you're a company that uses pirated software for profit.

In Slovenia it's not illegal to download, but it is illeagal if you burn the content on CD/DVD and sell it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ha.
It's kinda weird since "piracy" isn't actually defined here, only the action of pirating things is defined.
This leads to various interpretations. For example, I was reading some info on the website of a anti-piracy international association that's also present in Romania and they seam to consider you a "pirate" even if you keep a trial installation kit on your HDD after the trial limit expired of if you do not uninstall a trial program that expired.

in Singapore it is over (roughly) us$30 for bluray, unless it is used.

In the US, a bluray costs $30-35 new for a single movie (with a dvd and often digital copy) at walmart or best buy

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Those bundles cost 23€s here but you cant really count them in. They are bundles. I'm sure you can buy just the blu-ray in the US aswell.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

not really. Most movies come out with bundles. and that 23 euro is about $30 usd.

Its not illegal in every country. That and, even if it is, what is your point? Is FBI going to kick your door and arrest you as soon as you post on SG forum saying you pirate?

FBI doesn't spend a ridiculous amount of tax dollars to arrest teenagers for downloading stuff. It would be as productive as using satellites to arrest people for speeding.

Nowadays, yeah. They aren't above it. They are so power drunk they would arrest a boy scout for helping a little old lady cross the street just because they can. And my point is, if you are doing something that is generally regarded as illegal (and even put that it is illegal in the thread title), don't just announce it to the world. There are asshats everywhere who just love to report that stuff if only to kiss ass.

SG has the most (honest) pirates I've seen in a community.
Also lots of people brag about doing illegal things on the internet.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I do, since we already have 'piracy' taxes on all data storage thingies (HDDs, blank CDs, DVDs), and since they think of all of us as pirates, might as well pirate then, I'm giving them the money anyway.

Why download when you can stream?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Because not everyone can have 100/10 connections.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ability to watch if your connection craps out, fewer artifacts in case of connection slowdown, general lack of bandwidth, want to watch multiple times but have bandwidth caps, etc...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Blu-ray rips(the ones that are direct rips, no compression) are much higher quality than any stream that is available.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You can then watch it anywhere you want, whenever you want while using about the same bandwidth and with better quality.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

When you stream you are "temporarily downloading". I'd rather download it permanently.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

streaming = downloading movie illegally. there no difference.

streaming have lower quality, i prefer higher.

and you can watch your movie when you download it with any decent player like VLC, Potplayer or many others probably... so why watching a crap copie from a website with a crap flash player? i don't get it
