I've been saving up some Humble Bundle keys for a while, and I think now's the time to part with them. All keys will be Humble Gift links.

Entry to the train will be guarded by a puzzle. Please don't post spoilers. I'll be happy to provide hints if people are having trouble.

Each giveaway will last 24 hours and start/end at 12:00 PM CST, two giveaways per day. Due to giveaway limits I won't be able to post them all at once, so keep an eye on the latest giveaway for an updated link to the next car of the train.

I've decided on a theme of reflecting on the past. If you feel so inclined, please post one of your favorite memories, or discuss the poll.

Good luck everyone!

Hint #1 - The answer ends with the letter A

Hint #2 - I could easily add these extra lines to the riddle:
Number 26 generates buzz,
But does not indulge in rumors,
12 can live, laugh and love,
Though it has no sense of humor

Hint #3 - Pay attention to where Number 5 begins and ends and where Number 2 starts

Hint #4 - Another set of lines to add to the riddle:
Number three can crack the case,
But cannot solve the issue,
Number twenty ends the hurt,
And also births the tissue

Hint #5 - The answer starts with the letter A

Riddle Answers:
Riddle 1 - The letter A
Riddle 2 - Smoke
Riddle 3 - Waterfall

Which era of recent history do look upon most fondly?

I look most fondly upon the future
All of these eras were/are/will be terrible

Edit: I liked when everyone didn't have a cell phone. When you went out with your friends or anywhere away from home, you weren't tied to other people. Nobody knew where you were going, when you would be back, or what kind of trouble you were getting into. Yeah, it was more risky, but we lost that sense of freedom and risk which really sucks. Now everyone just expects if they text or call you that you will immediately stop what you are doing to respond or answer. We are all on a leash now.

Nice job solving! Thanks for engaging with the theme too. I think there's definitely something to be appreciated in
having a slower pace. I don't like the pressure people often put on each other.

I 100% agree and I am fine with a simple phone like these old Nokia phones so you can call if something happened, but as soon as the smartphones came to life, it all went to shit! I want the simpler older times back!!

I use my mobile phone only when i am outside (hiking etc.) but not active. Only to have a possibility to get reached in a emergency or when i really need it.

Nothing is tied to my mobile phone that would "inform me about something", so no pling, ring or whatever.
And my family and friends know that i can take long till they get answers when they write me something or call me.
They reach me on my phone line but in 99% not on my mobile phone. So, when i am not at home, i call back whenever i see the call and want to call back^^.

It's absoulte possible to still live this way and it feels great :o)
I get always annoyed when i meet friends and their mobile phones ring all 10 - 30 min.

Me too, people get agitated that it can take a day to answer messages. I look at it only one time a day at best, twice a week at worst.

I remember just dropping by at a friends house and asking if they are home to do something together or not.

I remember the summer nights of telling your parents you are sleeping at a friends house and they tell their parents they are staying at your house and then you go out with a bunch of friends and roam the streets all night doing all kinds of crazy stuff.

I remember going to the mall or riding bikes or skateboarding across town with friends and saying you would be home at a certain time and then you are free to go anywhere and do whatever because you were on your own.

I remember skipping school and hanging out with a bunch of friends at their house while their parents were at work or going other places once some older friends started driving.

Back then, if you went out and weren't at someone's house, there was no calling home unless you used a payphone and that was basically just for emergencies. Now parents probably track their kids with GPS and check up on them on a regular basis.

It was nice when the government didn't know what you were doing and saying, wasn't it?

Yeah it sucks, everything is tracked today. You don't even need GPS turned on. They mark and log with GPS where all the wifi networks are located and then they can track you as you pass wifi networks at businesses or anywhere else. When the Google cars drove drown every street to get the street view images, they logged the location of all the wifi networks as they drove past everyone's house so they could use that to more accurately track you. Your car even tracks everywhere you are going and how you are driving and reports back to the manufacturer that made it. And just about every "smart" device that has access to the internet is spying on us.

There was a time when people didn't like the police or government putting up cameras in public and now people are just volunteering to put them on their front door everywhere and they even put microphones and cameras inside their house that record 24/7. Then the police or government get access to pretty much whatever they want.

That's impressive. I would think just about everyone in these times would at least have a basic phone that can make calls and text messages. I can't think of anything off the top of my head, but I would imagine there are some things that require a cell phone to activate. I guess you could just not use those things.

Yes. If I need a cell phone to use something, I don't need to use that something.

Hint #1 made the task more difficult for me.

I didn't see hints #2 and #3, today I woke up and directly read hint #4 - and it helped! Thanks to number twenty! ✨

Still can't believe that the answer is really like that 😄

Also, I am not a native speaker. I groped the idea yesterday, but I couldn't fully evolve it.

I can't solve riddles for the life of me, but have a bump and a thank you for the mystery train!

Maybe I'm looking at things through the rose-tinted glasses of youth, but the 1980-2000s felt like a more vibrant period to me. There were many inconveniences compared to today, but we weren't as dominated by technology and big commercial interests. The pleasure of life were simple but were appreciated more deeply. Music, art, food, human interactions all felt more genuine. Now we're drowning in noise and it feels like we have less agency over our lives. It's probably just nostalgia talking and in 20 years, people will look back at the 2020s as fondly as I do at the 90s.

Well everything keeps getting worse so most likely in 20 years people will be like "ah the 2020s... you know... when you could get out of your house without a gas mask, now that was a time"

I have abosultely no idea.

But riddles in not the native language are always more difficult to solve as other stuff. At least for me.

EDIT: Hint 2 doesn't help me to understand what you want as solution.

All of the "numbers" are related to each other, so understanding what the other numbers represent, help to inform you about what number one represents (which is the number that the riddle asks you to define)

So for example, if I had a riddle describe the seasons of Summer, Winter and Autumn, and asked you what was missing, you might answer "Spring".

Is that helpful?

I betch'a it's something dumb like time or age or emotions or months or... wait, probably not months if it goes up to 15... anywho. and it's probably based on some obscure ancient saying like blind as a second rat or twiddly like the fifteenth horse in a carriage hance why all non-native english speakers complain. but I have no idea even where to start with so the first hint is bloody useless for me! I guess I'll have to wait for hint #2 and hint #3. And maybe even hint #4...
