As long as you only have to hide the stuff in the bundle... that's bearable, just so. But imagine, folks actually using that software and more RPGMaker shovelware appearing on Steam? shudder

If for every 100 shit games we get something like The Amber Throne or LISA, it is worth it imo.

For every 100? I fear, that ratio gets a lot worse with the bundle and when there's a lot of folks who think they can be game designers just because they can get the software for a Dollar. Apart from that, even those examples you mentioned don't really impress me, but then again, tastes tend to differ.

RPG Maker (and similar software) has been around for nearly two and a half decades now. It's not that people are suddenly realizing they have software available to them to help them make games, it's that Steam encourages poor utilization of such software and also makes such games more visible to general gamers (rather than just to those who take the time to search out RPG Maker related sites).

That is to say, blame the system which encourages such poorly made projects to be shoved in our faces, rather than the software itself.
I'm not sure about the dollar bit, but the fact is, we wouldn't run the risk of encountering junk games so readily if people weren't encouraged so heavily to post them up.

I'm not agree with the MSRP value and the CV (for Tier 1 at least, didn't check the other).
RPG Maker VX Ace - Fantasy Starter Pack MRSP value given by HB isnt correct, bundle CV isnt correct. That's why I made a TOOL.

Tier 1: MSRP 200,9$ β†’ CV: 30,132

I agree, for Tier 1 the difference comes from the fact that the RPG Maker VX Ace - Fantasy Starter Pack is 112.93 according to Humble Bundle, but the sum of the actual items is 123,91.

For Tier 2 and 3 it's going to be impossible to calculate, since we don't have store links for some of the items, therefore no prices. I considered the CV based on the price that HB attributed to the Starter pack.

EDIT: My assumption is that those games exist on Steam as subs at least (maybe without a store page), but the titles are completely messed up. Something that seems to be available for VX Ace is actually available for MV and the other way around. Since I don't have the proper appIds, I can't link them to anything from the store, and SteamDB doesn't seem to have them either. Therefore, we can't know if we can create giveaways for them or how much CV do they grant.

Finally I was waiting for a rebundle for VX Ace! I wanted to try making a game. I have looked at the Deluxe version in a past bundle and there is also the Luna Engine, is that important?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

from what I read, if you're hard coding you won't need Luna, but if you have little to no experience in coding and don't plan on learning, you should be getting it.

do you know $1 tier includes luna engine or not?

If you mean is it going to the bundle list, yes of course. Everything that goes about 95% or bigger discount get's added.
EDIT: It's already been there since 2014 and the DLC's not yet in the list will be added.

You can find tutorials for most RM variants around the internet, like here or here. But the best way to learn is to dissect other people's games to see how they work. You don't need 20 other people to make a good RM game (although having someone do the music / graphics / whatever when you can't is usually better than using default resources), To the Moon, OneShot or Last Word are good examples.

But please if you just want to make money do something else, like selling drugs or robbing grannies. We don't need another Arcane Raise or Vickinachi.

I never touched it (Arcane Raise, not drugs), so I can't comment if its gameplay is good (from what I could gather, it probably isn't), but it's like the most toxic business model I've ever seen in the videogame industry.

I wasn't referring to their army of sequels, prequels, pretzels and whatnot when I mentioned their business model. This kind of thing is fine, even though I've seen rocks more original than this. I actually meant the way they tied their game with the Steam market and their DLC policy. They sell one-use DLCs. In an RPG Maker game. They sell market items with absolutely no in-game use whatsoever, just to rack in some Benjamins with the traders' fee. Those crooks even added a dash to their game's title just so that it appears first in the market listing (although it seems it doesn't work that way anymore). It's like Digital Homicide all over again, except without the funny lawsuits.

(It means something. Make of it what you will, but you probably won't sell me any drugs.)

The original was made with RM2k3. The Steam version was remade in XP IIRC.

They're useful if you don't have the skill / money / etc to go custom. Also most RM users don't actually sell their games, they make them for friends, family, communities or release them for free.

Does this even exist? - RPG Maker VX Ace - Fantasy Starter Pack can't find it on Steam or either Steamgifts. On HumbleBundle it's shown as RPG Maker VX - Fantasy Starter Pack, not the Ace.

If you're asking to confirm contents, read the OP a bit more closely; the contents of the starter pack are detailed immediately below it. If you're simply confused about the name, the "ace" is in the Humble Bundle cover image, it's just hard to see.

That said, VX was never available for Steam- any content on Steam is going to be VX ace-compatible by default. Moreover, there shouldn't be any issues with forward compatibility of sprite or audio assets to begin with- those kind of things are openly compatible with other software by their nature (though sometimes they need to be manually resized if a program expects specific size ranges). More relevantly, I've only heard of Ace having issues importing scripts and full projects from the base program, not core assets or map files.

Oh okay. Does it haves seperate CD-keys for each DLC?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes. The "Starter Packs" don't exist in any sense other than Humble wanting to condense product listings on the bundle sale page. You should get a separate key for every element listed in the OP (and I can personally attest to Tier 1 doing such).

Do note, however, that the OP marked two of the DLCs with green checkmark boxes- note that those can't be given away at this time (presumably they haven't been publicly listed for sale on Steam yet).

Thank you for explaining everything in such detail. I marked them this way because they are not added to the SG database of giveaways, therefore you can't create giveaways for it. A mod would need to add them manually.

Can someone clarify two things for me?

First, can VX Ace DLC be used with RM MV? I understand that yes, but the graphics must be resized. What about the music DLC?

Even if VX Ace DLC can be used in MV, will I still need to have VX Ace on Steam? Or will Steam allow me to activate the DLC without VX Ace?

Permalink

To the last question:
In games you need the base game to activate the DLC, so it's very possible that you need the base software for the DLC.
