People with very little income to spend on games. Sucks, but some people do spend a lot of time broke.

OK, but it's been on sale at least three times this year -- I'd expect people who've wishlisted it to snap it up then. Unless they just don't keep track of sales, I guess...

I had it on my wishlist too... then I managed to get a 90% off coupon so I could buy it :P

Edit: there was a really quick giveaway here, but it's over now. Sorry!

"Our Wishlist" page isn't up to date. Probably last update is 1.5 years ago.

I meant the "Top Gift Choices" section.
There is something of broken surely, first games in the list aren't believable.

It's updated automatically from all the Steamgifts users wishlists. Considering there are games in there released a couple months ago it can't be 1.5 year old.

Yes, I see some recent game were added, but that doesn't stop me to think it isn't up to date with every user wishlist. It seems somehow broken. Assassin's Creed: Revelation number 2? Saints Row: The Third number 3, despite it was bundled more than once? Dead Island number 8 and more wishlisted than Far Cry 3 and Bioshock Infinite?...

The older the game, the more people will have it on their wishlist. And since Steam doesn't get the game off your list if you activate it through a key, there are probably a bunch of people who have games in their wishlist that are also in their library.
And don't forget that a lot of people on SG don't have the means to buy their games, even from bundles.

The older ones are cheaper too. You can see a different situation using tool like that made by Mabako to check wishlist in the groups. I think "Our Wishlist" counts even some SteamGifts users with profile not synchronized as the sync isn't automatically done if the user isn't an active user.

I just have to say, that's pretty hypocritical of you to say since you have L4D2 on your wishlist...

Two things:
My question's not so much "why would you ever wishlist Portal 2" but "why have so many people wishlisted Portal 2", whereas Portal's not even on the list. I guess it's possible they all think it's a great game but don't have the money. But then, it's been on sale quite a few times this year.
Oh and it's not hypocrisy because I'm not telling people not to do something I'm doing myself. I'm not the wishlist police, obviously... I was just curious. I can tell you exactly why I wishlisted L4D2: I would play it very infrequently (I rarely play multiplayer games) and that's not worth 20 bucks to me, so I'm waiting for a sale.

L4D2 has been on sale multiple times too.
" I added L4D2 a few days ago."
People can delete wishlisted items and add them again for a newer date. Of course, I'm not saying you did that cause I doubt people will spend time doing that for no other reason than to have a newer date but it's still possible.

Portal 1 was free for about a week back in 2011 so people who wanted it could've gotten it free to keep. Portal 2 did not have this kind of event so it's safe to assume those that got it for free could've played it, liked it, and then added Portal 2 to their wishlist.
"that's not worth 20 bucks to me"
Maybe people feel the same about Portal 2, hence why it's on wishlist.

Yes, most recently during the Summer Sale, same as P2. By my estimate, both games will be on sale for the Holiday 2013 sale. Maybe everyone massively added it then just after missing the sale.

That's 2 years ago, so that would mean they're all waiting for a freebie since it's not going to get any cheaper than the last sale. Which given the nature of this site is very well possible, I guess. :-) But yeah, that would explain why Portal's not there.

Inconceivable! If you've played Portal I simply cannot believe Portal 2 would not be worth 20 bucks. Not having the money is the only excuse! :-)

Who knows. The wishlist thing is broken anyway. SG can only see a couple games on my wishlist. If it worked, maybe the numbers would play out differently.
Portal 2 was on my wishlist for a while, but I snagged it over the Summer Sale. Wife has it on Xbox and I couldn't justify full price when I could just play it on the Xbox. Now it's not. Or maybe it is according to SG, hard to say since I no longer see the giveaways for it.

What is Portal 2 doing at the fourth spot of the wishlist? If you've never played Portal I don't see why you'd get Portal 2, and if you have played Portal I don't see why you wouldn't get Portal 2! Are these all people who think it's too expensive or something? Anyone here who has Portal 2 on their wishlist who can explain?
