Anyone else who thinks this game is over-hyped and its not worth the money? Friend bought it, we where playing it and it sucked.

I really wanted a game, somewhat like Gangsters or in worst case Gangsters 2. But this is a plain insult to gamers imo..It costs 44,99euro where i live.
Its not that i hate the game, battle was even fun sometimes.
But imo it shouldn't be more than 20euro at release.

opinions?

Payed 20$ and I don't regret it yet. (Didn't play too much so can't judge yet.)

I still think that every game should cost 25$ Max. ANY GAME, even your average AAA title :)

well, i would def pay 20$ for it, even 25$. But 44,99euro? Thats almost 61$. Maybe its only us, but damn...There are hookers selling their bodies for less^^

most new games cost €59.99 ($81.06) here, but could be worse, we could be in Australia lol
and seems like Kalysto loves the money...

Actually you seem to have got the real short end here it seems. Don't know for other sources but it's only $40 USD from the Australian steam store.
Also for all our whinging it seems that the prices are starting to normalise for online purchase, most seem to be fairly normal recently.

I rarely ever feel any game is worth its full retail price. Wait for a sale, you said yourself that you don't hate the game, you just don't feel its worth 45 euro.

Care to explain how download size affects how good or bad a game is?

I guess he never played Frontier, eh? As for me, I really enjoy the game! It's not the best game to ever grace the Earth, but it's a damned enjoyable one nonetheless.

its weird though because steam states on the storepage that it would be 5gb. I do remember in my young days there was this team on the pirate scene called "skulptura". They made incredible small versions of games(compressed, removed languages etc...). So i'm guessing he played a version like that. Or again, there is false info on the storepage

game size shows how much content is in a game this game i was expecting something kinda like xcom with a gangster twist the game is bad as someone said its boring as hell its repetitive every mission takes like 30 minutes where your literally just sitting there doing nothing because your character is in a building and your waiting about 5 minutes at a time to let your dude get some information take over a brewery or what ever the mission is

yeah, i have to agree on those points.. Ever played "Gangsters 2"? It was not as good as the first one but atleast if you had to do something(like talking to someone) you had to move your character on foot or in a car. It was way better than this except for the battle/cover system

A) YOu could use full stops and paragraphs, that's a pain to read.

B) Game size is related to content yeah, but it's not the only factor that determines it.

i agree, when i saw the trailer i was like yaay a new gangsters! then when i played the game i was kinda disapointed, because the missions take 10-40 minutes and actually you do the same thing over and over again. if the game should be on sale for 5 bucks one day ill buy it, imo its not more worth than 5-10

Over-hyped? I haven't heard anything about it, then saw giveaways for it popping up and checked the store page out of curiosity.
Looked pretty terrible, mediocre at best.

Who hyped the game? I feel like I've been missing out :D

I bought it trough one of my game contacts , i think I paid $20 :)

Iwould not ave bought it at the full price .. I have sent a good few hours playing it and find it more fun to play than the usual mobster shootem/beatem type games :)

I have to agree with OP, a lot of reviews stated it's "a combination of xcom & tropico 4" and that fans of that genre would love it, while in fact the game has no depth whatsoever, no micromanaging & the combat animations are horrible.

On top of that, nearly all the advertising suggests that it's an open world or at least a city, and there is even 1 screenshot on the steampage that i.m.o. implies that you can at least purchase/own vehicles (which is not possible, your thugs run everywhere)

But to be honest i did find the game entertaining for about 2 hours, after which i realized that i was waiting for buildings/options to unlock that didn't exist in this game and that there is nothing else left to do in the game but repeating the same actions over and over again.

Over-hyped? Definetly not; maybe in a sense of "this is the new game coming from the developer's of Tropico" even though it barely has anything to do with it...

I payed ~13$ for it, so I can't complain with the pricing, but the game is too simple and the game's mechanics are too basic and unrefined for a 45€ game, even at 15% off...

Also to anyone who just blindly bought it because they're into the Gangsters theme or wanted another game like Gangsters 1 or 2, really should have played the demo first... The demo really represented the simplicity of the game. I like it and the multiplayer can be fun at times (although it still baffles me how the hell they couldn't implement a chatting function let alone making you able to see who the f*ck you're actually playing with at the moment...)

As i said in a comment on top of this one, over hyped is not the right word here :) Wat i meant was alot of review sites telling its a awesome game. Being a mix of xcom and Tropico. I also received 3 newsletters to pre purchase it. So i did hear about it, a long time before it even was announced on steam :) But, if i mix a Opel with a Volkswagen it won't give me a ferrari :)

I found it disappointing. It's not a bad game, it's just not very good either, and too simplistic.

I'm a big fan of turn-based strategy, and Omerta just doesn't cut it. The management part is ridiculously easy, and once you get yourself set up nothing can go wrong. There are no rival gangsters, no on-map police raids (just a lame pop-up you can make go away by paying some dirty money), nothing that can threathen your illegal business at all. There's really nothing that can go wrong, which makes the game extremely boring.

The combat part is much better, but it's still very uninspired and bland. Bad animations, uninspired skills, very poor enemy AI, and just not a lot of tactics required to win. At least the new XCOM actually required you to think ahead on the higher difficulties, but in Omerta there's never a real sense of danger.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

yeah exactly :) If i'm a gangster fighting for control of a city, the least i expect is people not trying to take back sites. Only AI i've seen is in combat and even there is very basic. Instead of taking cover enemies tend to walk into my gang and be shot point blank by them. Makes no sense for a game that is about combat..If its not about combat, i still have to find what its for
