I was under the impression that i got points for giving somthing away, but we get nothing?, i mean i presumed the system was when the time ended and the gift has been sent i get a certain amount of points for the amount of people that entered? really i gave away my Garrys mod - not because i didnt want it, but to give a good first impression on the site and maybe collect a few points up so i could enter a few extra give aways. But after i send the gift, nothing.

I dont get it?, to me it seems like just a flawed system, get invited to website do nothing get points, or.

Get invited put up a game or two, get nothing.

?

if this is seriously how it is then i can only suggest, when the player has accept that the gift has been sent then points should be awarded. I dont know, i guess im just a little pissed that i put a game up for, essentially nothing.

Then you joined this site under false pretenses, and you should have checked out how everything works before leaping in. This is a site for a community to gift games to each other.

i came off wrong in my post - i mean I'm a bit...unhappy that i don't get a bonus few points like 50 or so, i don't know. I don't mind that I've given the game away. But its just seems odd to me that people can not give away anything and win and gain points, yet people who offer to give their game away get absolutely nothing, not even a 5% of the points like everyone else gets.

When we had a system like that in place, suddenly the site was filled with fake giveaways. Honestly, I think people generate too many points as is, and even I would like a reduction. I went on an entering spree yesterday and entered like 7 giveaways. I'm back up to 300 already. I don't think giving more points would be a good answer.

300 already?, i think i left my game about 12hours for when i went to sleep and only had 45-50.

I think a system as i suggested - points be awarded when the gift has been confirmed to be sent and received, since the give away(s) have like 500+ enters they'll be hard to get someone fake confirm them.

I agree that there are too many points given out. I can enter several a day and so can everyone else. It just makes the number of entries really high for almost every game thus reducing everyone's chances of winning. People are using their points frivolously because they can.

You want 50 points for successfully giving away a game worth 10 dollars?
You want 5 times the retail value of the game to prove how awesome you are?
When other people only get 5% of that 10 dollars in points to try to win your game?

You shouldn't do it for the publicity or for the ability to show off how awesome you are. You do it from the love of your heart. From the caring.

And if you looked around at how the point system works, or at the rules of the site you'd know how this all works, so you wouldn't have had anything to be disappointed by.

And it's not like you "Get invited put up a game or two, get nothing". You still get points just like everyone else does. That's something. And it's how this site works. By putting up a game you've helped keep this site going and fulfilling it's purpose. That's something also. Imagine if no one put up giveaways. Then the site would do absolutely nothing. Then we all really would have something to be pissed about.

Who said anything about showing how awesome i am, i put it up because i wanted to do something good since i was invited to the website, after wanting to be for a long time.

EDIT: Also 50 points? apparently you can get 300 in a day, 50 is nothing then, and also i cant actually BUY a game with 50points can i? no. I can enter into one and have an extremely slim possibility of getting something, its nothing like getting 5 times the value of a games, and also - you're just bringing stuff like "Prove how awesome you are" out of your ass, please don't do that, makes you seem like an idiot

Buddy, they'll grill you just for expecting a "thank you", let alone anything more substantial for putting up a game for them to grab at. See: http://www.steamgifts.com/forum/aib15/billions-of-entrys-and-only-a-couple-of-comments

You're commenting towards the "Cool, Gimme!" crowd, here. You should be thanking them for the chance to give them something for free, don't you know?

You claim you "put it up because i wanted to do something good since i was invited to the website", yet read what else you've wrote in your first post:

"not because i didnt want it, but to give a good first impression on the site and maybe collect a few points up so i could enter a few extra give aways." and " i guess im just a little pissed that i put a game up for, essentially nothing."

You already implied that you only made the giveaway to get points. Now you're saying you did it to give back? Sounds like backpedaling to me.

Yes, it is possible to get 300 points in one day. However, that's the max you can get. And you get that based on giveaways that are created. And since you only get 5% the steam value of the game for each giveaway made, it's rare anymore that that happens unless it's a big sale day or something.

But think again at what you suggested. You said you wanted 50 points bonus for making the giveaway. Like I said, you want to get 5 times the value for your game. Yet other users are only benefiting by getting a half a point off the same game. Do you see the point where you come off as a colossal asshole yet? The discrepancy of 49.5 points between you making a giveaway and others "benefiting from you" is where I made my smartass comment about you proving your awesomeness. Because that's all this thread sounds like you're wanting to do. You want us to bow down to how amazing you are because you made a giveaway, so you want that many more points because of it. I made a giveaway earlier this week also. Who cares? It was an awesome game, I heard about it on this site from a giveaway I entered and lost. So I bought it and I enjoy it, and wanted someone else to enjoy it, so they'll pass on a love for the game hopefully. That's called paying it forward.

It's called generosity and kindness. And paying it forward. If you want to make a giveaway then why do you think you deserve something in return? You knew you were going to give it away; hence the "Create a GIVEAWAY". You weren't selling it. Selling implies you get something in return (Like these 50 points you want). Giving implies you give it freely.

Also, if you'd been even a tad more gracious I would have skipped right over this thread. Even thought I thought it was dickish in the first post I was going to. Until the part where you wanted 5 times the game worth in points. I could understand and concede to successful creators getting even up to half the game price in points. But to ask for the price of the game back is not giving, that's selling. And to ask for more than the price is making a profit. This isn't a website to make a profit. If you want that go to the steam forums or some other place and literally sell the game.

This is getting entirely too hostile considering the fact that you're arguing in favor of generosity and kindness, though I don't disagree with the integral parts of your argument.

WTF? This is clearly getting out of hand. I'm not saying, that I agree with the 50 points bonus, but comparing 50 points, with which you might have a 0.5% chance (on a giveaway with only 500 entries) on winning sth, that means the actual worth of those points would be $0.25.
So please stop your irrational comparisons, or would you say every lottery ticket is worth millions of dollars?
Now back to bonus points. 50 is clearly too much, but I agree, that maybe 10% would be a nice "thank you for contributing on this site" (of course only after the game was marked as received). Not everybody needs a reason, to give sth away, but a lot of people do and let's be honest, who actually needs those bonus points? I have enough points to enter all giveaways I want to enter.
The only thing this would actually change, would be more subs by people who normally wouldn't give sth away.

I know I'm not forced to, but - its just seems odd to me that people who don't do a thing get the exact same stuff of people who do.

I have gifted games worth almost $300 (and not one of them HiB's or any other free or exploited game) and I don't complain. I don't give away games because I want more points. I do it because I want to. Not everyone wants something in return for being nice, you know.

I agree that the system is flawed and not sustainable. It has not stopped me from giving, but I don't believe the majority feels that way. Also, the site owner is paying for this out of pocket as far as I know and that doesn't seem sustainable as the site grows. Why are there no ads or sponsorships? This would be a great site to advertise on. I would most likely sponsor it if the price was right. I am spending about $130 a month for Facebook ads for my blog site. This site speaks to a specific crowd and I think the site owner could at very least pay his hosting with ad/sponsorship revenue.

It isn't at all flawed, people have never stopped being generous, not once in history. Random acts of kindness is what this website was built off of, and you give away for that very reason, not to benefit from it with material things.

If you read how I put it in my post, I don't think he is missing the point. I think you are. You want 50 points in return for the fact that your giveaway was sucessful. So you want something back for your giveaway.

But it's a giveaway, you're giving it away. Not selling it. Selling says you get something in return. Giving means you hand it over expecting nothing.

You expected something. That's selling.

I have received free games from this community. I just won another game a few minutes ago, actually. I don't have a job currently, but I still try to give what I can. This is a generous community, and it is simply the right thing to do, to give back to the same community that you have received gifts from.
