So I made a mistake when I created one of my giveaways a few days ago. I was making giveaways for the 4 Awesomenauts character DLC I had laying around as I don't play it. Unfortunately (because I was laughing at the Simpsons...stupid sexy flanders) I selected the first option, Max Focus, rather than the correct one, Rocco. I put in a support ticket the moment I noticed, selecting the change the game option. I wrote something to the gist of what I said before this requesting for Max Focus Character DLC to be turned instead to the Rocco Character DLC and hoped that it wouldn't be too much of a problem I caused. I forgot about it for a day or two as I was doing job interviews (Hired by Arbys, woot woot, paychecks incoming again and looking for a day job in insurance as well) and no support notification popped up. Once the winners were chosen I remembered that my issue was not yet resolved and now there was a winner waiting for me to post a key for them, one I did not possess. Confused as to what to do I put in a second ticket about deleting the giveaway, more requesting what to do as I didn't want to disappoint anyone. I'm not sure if I handled everything correctly, but I added the person on steam, left a comment on the giveaway page in case they are like me and their attention is here more than steam, and waited patiently for support to get back to me or the winner to notice me. Yesterday I realized they approved my request on Steam, but I missed them being online. I sent a chat message to the user and mentioned the situation and asked what they would prefer but I haven't heard anything from them or support yet...

I'm not sure what to do. I'm 100% willing to give the Rocco key as a gift but that is not what the user was promised and they are online on steam but not replying yet. I tried my best to have the issue taken care of BEFORE a winner was chosen but I guess I didn't go about it correctly. I'd just like to clear this up, hopefully in a way that everyone is satisfied. If you have any suggestions I'd be happy to hear them.

They should really remove the "Change Giveaway Game" category for Support tickets since barely anybody knows what it's actually for and it's highly misleading.

Support only approves game changes if both games have identical names like Dark Matter and Dark Matter or The Bridge and The Bridge.

If you're ever in that situation again you're better off deleting the giveaway while it's still running (since you don't need the winners permission then) and re-creating it.

Basically your options now are to ask the winner to agree to delete the GA (best way would be to comment on the GA ifself, saying they're ok with deleting it) you can give them the Rocco DLC regardless if you want or to purchase the correct DLC and give it to the winner. If neither of those are an option you can also just take the Not received. Unless it happens repeatedly it's not the end of the world.

Well unfortunately I have been unemployed due to mental health for nearly 6 months...I don't have the 5 dollars to cover that purchase no matter how much I would love to. I've watched the winner get online multiple times to play games with no reply to my attempts to reach out. I'd love to not take a hit by hosting a "Not Received" Giveaway but I was entirely unaware of my misunderstanding of the Change giveaway option. Wishing I had deleted it immediately, I was worried the people that entered wouldn't see the new on and I felt a bit bad about them losing their entries.

Steam showing somebody online and playing games does not necessarily mean that there's actually a human present, since many people use programs like Archies Steam Farm or Idlemaster to idle games for Trading cards.

Theoretically it's possible that the winner is ignoring you on purpose and will mark "Not received" after a week has passed but that's not very common.

If you manage to get in touch with them you can use the Rocco DLC (if they don't already have it) to encourage them to agree to delete the GA or as sort of as a Thank you for doing so.

Hopefully you manage to get things sorted out. You seem just like the kind of people we like to have here.
Welcome to the site by the way ;)

Edit: If you've tried to contact them via Chat so far maybe leaving a message on their Profile could help. (If their privacy setting allows that)

That was definitely the plan, not trying to stiff the guy, just wanting to make sure he's aware that I do not have that specific DLC. I suppose if he has the Rocco DLC I can give him a list of a few games not on his account to choose from but no real stand out choices atm. And fair point, I forgot about idling I have never done it but many people do. Thank you for all the help. I really appreciate it. Just trying to get a feel for things and give some people games they'll enjoy. :D

You can delete a giveaway at any time before it's finished. You lose the giveaway slot though, but it's better than waiting for support to fix things for you unless you have no other options. :)

Wishing I had now for sure, thank you both for the advice. It's appreciated. I'll keep doing my best to speak to the winner and explain the situation. I guess if they don't reply for a week or two I'll have a paycheck I can use. Though I think my cat will be peeved if I put DLC for a Free to Play game above her getting litter & food. xD

Ask your friends if they spare a key. Or buy it from a reseller. Or ask the winner if he approve to delete the giveaway. Or or or ....

Working on all of the above. Thank you though! :) Reseller will be the option if they don't answer and I manage to get some money in my account to pay for it but I'd prefer not to have to. I have a million things to buy with being out of work so long and paying for a mistake while trying to give away a gift isn't at the top of the list. :(

You can delete a giveaway yourself while it's running, and that's the best practice to follow when there's an issue; the deletion link is in bottom of the left sidebar. Keep in mind that right now staff is shorthanded and unable to respond to requests in any kind of prompt manner.

Since there was a legitimate basis, staff almost certainly won't take any action on the Not Received (since it's your first), so you'll have the option to wait for another inevitable promo before providing the key, if the winner chooses to not agree to the deletion.

Also, please consider formatting your paragraphs to be more easily readable. Standard rule of thumb is to have a line break at as close to 3 lines as possible.
