I might enter, because I've heard that even the losers get lucky sometimes.

But then if I don't win, I'm not going to come around here no more.

No, it was not. Is there rhyme in what I wrote? If there is, I am not seeing it.
(Not that I could not easily fix that, of course.)

"Not much time to brush up on skills."

That explains a lot. They were probably in a big hurry to finish the shoot and didn't give her much of a chance to remember how to skate. My point is that all she showed in the video was a Drop-in (we believe) and Pumps. No Rock to Fakie, no Kick-turns, not even a Tail Stall. True, it would have been more impressive if she had caught some air, but they only showed us a few seconds of her boarding and she may not have been given the chance. (They did show one of the guys bailing, though.)

There is also the fact that she was a rarity in her time. Plenty of gals hung with skaters, but not many were really skating back then.
Regardless, it would have been nice to see her style up more, yes. :)

Maybe she wasn't supposed to be a good skater, yet. Maybe she was taking her first steps to be free......fallin.

Bro not many girls skated in the 90s dafuq

I know there were not that many girls skating in the 90's. I was there. My point that Devon Jenkin did not display any notable skill remains valid. The producers didn't even grant the poor girl a Backside Kickturn. With the same camera effects they were using on the boys, even the most basic of tricks can look way gnarly and in fitting with the song. I suspect it was the director's laziness and desire to limit costs that is to blame.

I can't think of any females pullin mctwists back then bruh LOL

Straw man fallacy. There weren't many males pulling off McTwists back then. Unlike the beginner-level stuff I mentioned in my post(s), the McTwist is a highly advanced maneuver. (Lyn-z Adams Hawkins, the first female to officially land a 540 McTwist, did so in 2009, twenty years after Tom Petty's "Free Falling" video.)

I was skating back in the 90s so you are arguing with the wrong guy lol

The girl couldnt even pump the transition, she was very noob level, like I said there were not many girls who skated at all back then.

The producers didnt grant her a rock and roll? Bro she couldnt pull it off, obviously. You were expecting airwalks and handplants? No amount of 'effects' would have brought that. I wonder how many times she fell just trying to pump?

She was probably the only girl skater they could find that could even drop in on vert ramps. Everyone thinks that shit is easy until they break their ass. And who knows, really I watched it again and it doesn't even show her actually dropping in so its possible she couldnt even do that.

There was no different treatment of 'effects' by the producers is what I mean, the girl could only do one thing: drop in without falling. There are no amount of effects to be done to make it look like she was an expert skater, and this video was made at a time when hollywood had no idea what was good or technical in regards to skateboarding.

no worries bro

*not sure what you edited but i think we actually agree with each other tho xD

As we don't really seem to be disagreeing, here, let me clarify. I saw the same thing that you saw. The woman's interview made it plain that she had not been keeping up with her skating at the time they did the video. Heck, she may not have been on a board for a few years. I believe that, given half an hour of practice or so, she probably could have loosened up enough to at least look like she belonged on a half-pipe.

When you are doing a video shoot, however, you do not have time to wait. Think of it this way: every minute you have the cameras and crew on site is another $10,000 spent, regardless of whether or not you actually get anything on film. The producer is not going to chill until you "warm up." Just look at how rushed the selection process was.

"We need a teenage, good-looking actress for a shoot. Know anyone that can skate?"
"My client can skate half-pipe."
"She's hired."

These guys didn't spend any time searching the country for the few known female skaters of that time. It would have cost them serious money. Instead, they just picked the first decent-looking actress they could find whom they thought might be able to do the job.

I will admit, however, that the girl did herself a disservice. As soon as she was done auditioning for the part, she should have hit the park. Once she learned she would be required to do half-pipe, she should have prepared herself for the possibility of being selected. In other words, she should have been ready to perform as soon as she reached the shoot.

Yea your edit confuses me man

All I meant was that when you said

All the good-looking girls who also happen to skate and they couldn't hire one for that video

That in the 90s there were so few female skaters that they obviously couldn't find an actual skater.

You still skate my dude? I still do but rare anymore.

My original point was that they could have found one if they had truly wanted to do so. (See my elaboration, above.)

You still skate my dude? I still do but rare anymore.

No, I do not consider myself a skater. I have not spent notable time on a board since 1976.
