I'm pretty sure many of the Steamgifters who were born in the 80s had their first video game experiences playing the Original Game Boy.
I still remember Christmas 1989 (or was it 1990? :D) when I got my Game Boy with an Tetris cartridge and couldn' t stop playing.
Over the next years I started collecting a few nice games which I still fondly remember. Most of the times you couldn't save your games, you always had to check your batteries, the display was monochromatic, but nonetheless I had lots of fun playing the games.

So, this puzzle is dedicated to my Game Boy collection. I chose ten games I owned and really loved to play back in the days. If you can guess all of them (titles as found on German/English Wiki are correct), you gain access to a train consisting of a recent bundle. This time, screens were taken off Youtube vids, so you shouldn't be able to use Google to search for the images. ;-)

The puzzle is LEVEL 1+ and ends on December 2nd on 19:09 German Time.

I don't know if hints will be necessary, so tell me, if it's too hard to solve and I will try to help.

Make that one. The last was hard to make out a character that made it obvious. Now, just Mexico VS Germany. :P

I still have my old Gameboy and a dozen games. 3 of them are in the puzzle... and I think I remember 2 more.
Will get back to the puzzle tomorrow after work.

Got them all with a bit of googling for 5 and 7. Still own the first 4 (and 6). Not interested in any of the games given away but it was fun remembering those old games, so you get a free bump :D

Number 2 is such an awesome game!!! I even remember buying it without knowing if it was any good, or what it was about in the first place. Only to find out how effin great it really is. The ending was just not cool if you´ve gotten in any way emotionally attached lol

I always played this game with a friend, but didn't have a own cartridge until late in the 90s I think. When I bought it, I played through the game in two or three days (and this game was pretty long for Game Boy standards, thank god, saving was possible! ;-) )
Out of all these games included in the puzzle, this was was also my favourite one.

Yeah i´ve restarted playing it whilst fiddling around with Wii emulators and found myself to be progressing quite fast.
The experience playing it as a 1st timer might be one of the best SP experiences ever, and definately is the one that stuck the most with me. Not even Zelda reaches there..

Oh and then came the time we all played FF7 on PS1 and i realized my old friend had a frickin huge family :D

I'm 14 years old, but I've had a ton of Gameboys over the years. I do remember this old game I used to LOVE. It was Soloman's Club. I've had a ton of others, but I can't seem to remember them. Anyways, thanks for the GA! :D

Wow, it's not typical for someone as young as you are to recognize the beauty of monochromatic Game Boy games, so hats off to you. :-)
Never heard of Soloman's Club before, by the way, so I should check this out.

Thanks! Yeah, you should check it out. It was/is really fun. May not be anymore, cause the last time I played it was when I was like 4. You play any other retro games? Text adventures for example?

I love retro games (and newer games with a retro-touch) and probably play them more than recent AAA games (I also don't have the hardware for high end games), but I haven't been too deep into text adventures, yet. ;)

didnt have one, but when i was @ my nefews i always started a new save with pokemon (without saving) the kick was to get as far as possible before going home XD

Later with the advance i think? i got my own save for harry potter and the chamber of secrets, finished it 1 time, What I remember you had to play several playtrhoughs on the same save to get all the collecter cards in game. And you would still rise in level so it would get easier the more playtrhoughs you had.

My first gaming experiences were with the PC, but the Gameboy was my first "console". My mother bought it for me, and ended up playing more tetris than I ever did :D. Heck, the gameboy saved my life (well, an exaggeration, but kinda)- I was always playing it with my head tilted so that my left eye was more forward, so much so my parents got really annoyed "Use both eyes!". Finally got it in their minds to get me checked up, and it turned out I had a lazy eye due to toxo-plasmosis. No way to fix it, but at least there was an explanation :D.
I had Tetris, some baseball game, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (the most insanely difficult game ever, haven't finished it to this day), and years later got Pokemon, and one of those 66-in-1 cartridges (that were mostly just the same 13 games repeated).
Recognise the first screenshot (was one of those 66, but none of the others).

The last one is easy if u don't know it u never played anything from nintendo i mean the character on the left makes it so obvious :P

But yeh having a hard time getting the name right :/

Don't know 3, 5 8 and 10 myself 10 must have a really weird name.

In fact, 10 should be a pretty easy name. ;) If you have no idea, try using the Internetz. ;)
3,5 and 8 seem to be the most difficult for most puzzlers. 8 would be much easier if I would have used another in-game screen, 3 and 5 are classics in my opinion, but maybe it's hard, because they were released in the beginning of the Game Boy days.

I never had Original Game Boy and started my handheld adventure with GBC and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages. But my friend had GB Pocket and the 1st game from the puzzle, we spent a lot of time playing it. This game had some very weird levels and boss fights (Three Piggies!!)
Thanks!

Yeah, Number 1 was so much more polished than the first game of the series, really nice graphics, an actual overworld, many different-themed levels - it probably was one of the best games back then.

To be honest, I did not have a gameboy, but my brother & some friends did. I was more into Sega. :)

so I would prefer the pimped out gameboy to look like:

Never owned a Game Gear, but had its "big" brother with a few games:

This would also be a great topic for a puzzle, but I didn't have more than 8 or 9 games, I think.

As I said, I didn't have that many games (out of my head: Sonic 1-3, Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Enduro Racer, Wonder Boy in Monster World, Mickey Mouse: Land of Illusion and Super Kick Off), so I don't really know which other games were great. ;)

You missed the greatest Master System game of all, Phantasy Star! Still a great RPG today. It was way ahead of its time. It was a very expensive game, I think it cost USD$80 back in 1988. The game cost almost as much as the console. :)
