I suddenly remembered an old game that came on a magazine cover CD, and my intensive, if short, attempts at trying to track it down were fruitless. (other than finding some freeware games made for promoting local beer, so that's an upside :P )

It's an old shareware game for Windows, you maneuver a small spaceship or rocket through a maze. There was definitely fuel management, you had to stop at refueling platforms to keep going and there were unlockable gates. If I remember right, there was gravity, and I don't think there was any combat at all, you could only die by crashing into objects.

Damn that's not much to go on. Have you tried googling those keywords and looking through the Image results? That's how I usually find my old timeys. Just made my way to Jet Set Willy just today from my Amstrad CPC days.
Good luck

Your description made me think of a game with a triangular ship and kind of magnetic bases to land to refuel. I think the fuel canisters were green. Sadly I can't remember the name either. I'll keep looking

That's the thing, I can't remember which magazine it was, and the issues that old aren't in the house anymore. It was either CHIP or PC World Komputer.

Maybe you could find something in here or here. They both have some demo discs ripped.

You could try posting on the tipofmyjoystick subreddit, they've helped me identify other games in the past.

The problem with mid 1990s era shareware games is that many were made by very small teams or even a single person, and had very limited distribution and advertising. It can be nearly impossible to find some of them unless they were published by a large outfit like Apogee or Softdisk or the like.

Here's a bunch of games from that genre. If none of these are the game you're thinking of at least it gives you some things to help you search:

Gravity Force, Zeewolf, Choplifter, Sub-Terrania, Space Taxi, TerraFire, Solar Jetman,

Out of these, Gravity Force looks the closest to what I was thinking of, it should be easier to describe to people the game I'm looking for. Thanks!
