It is a nice game. A lot overrated since it really is nothing more than a decent puzzle platformer with one of the most infuriating achievements ever (and some interesting level design choices), but it is a game most people should enjoy playing.

I can only assume you are referring to the achievement for completing the entire game in one sitting with 5 or less deaths. I have to say that one man's infuriating is another man's treasure. I for one enjoyed going for the achievement and completing it. Once you are well familiar with the entire game and all of the puzzles it is not that difficult, and it is easy enough to practice any section that you might be weak on. The nice thing about achievements is that they are completely optional. Some people love them, others just largely ignore them and it doesn't detract from their experience. Anyway, as a fan of the genre, overall I really enjoyed LIMBO and found it to be one of the better puzzle-platformers out there, and more accessible to the average gamer than something like Braid for example. Braid to me was/is an amazing game, but the difficulty level can put some people off.

I'd normally agree and I actually planned to grind out the low-death achievement, but then I was presented with the very last puzzle, where you have to time the gravity switch to match the pattern of saw blades outside the screen. Since apparently their movement is next to impossible to predict after first loading in the level, it means you either got it on your first try or back to the start of the game. I am a patient man, but not that patient. :/
I'd rather take on the solo permadeath 100% challenge of Pillars of Eternity once I get all the expansions. :D

I haven't played the game in a long time but I don't recall that part or any other giving me that much trouble. As far your screenshot on 'level design choices' goes, you didn't mention what area that was, but I seem to remember some parts of the game where almost all visibility is intentionally taken away from you. The most memorable of which was in the secret challenge area and there was a section that was almost all pitch black (save for a few small 'clues') and you had to avoid sawblades based on their sound relative to your position on the screen. It wasn't too hard with some decent stereo speakers/headphones and I thought it was a refreshing change of pace.

It was the secret level, and to be honest, if I was hearing impaired, I would have been pissed. Platformers don't make you rely on hearing, and imagine this on laptop speakers… Or heck, on a phone/tablet. Good luck navigating a sound-based puzzle in mono (or no sound)!
While I generally thought the overall puzzle quality was decent to good, the bonus level felt lazy and needlessly gimmicky. There are games that rely on darkness and lighting to make the player to think a little, but that bonus level was just plain bad. It felt like as if they said "we could make a better version of Bowser's Castle Back Door from Super Mario World, but we'll show how to put in real darkness" without realising what made that level challenging but fair.

Aye, but to be honest if I had a choice I wouldn't game on a laptop (let alone one with only mono speaker), and if I did it would be far preferable to output to a TV and play this type of game with a gamepad. Never mind phones/tablets -- we can just throw them away as a 'real' gaming platforms as many types of games are not really suitable for them despite the fact that they might be available. I don't feel that criticism of the game based on things that are extras that you are choosing to partake in and which have no bearing on the core of the game are really fair. Most people probably play through it without ever knowing about the secret area and what it takes to unlock it, and also likely ignore the afforementioned achievement as well. As far as the secret area goes, to me it was very well done and we seem to have quite contrasting views on it.
