hi guys

im wondering if scammers can use skype to hack steam accounts ?

today i got invitation from a guy with 0 profil account so i added him to see what he want, i usually add this kind of people to see how they want to scam just for fun xD

so when i added him he asked me if i have skype directly ,and he insisted you have skype ? you have skype ? (wtf xD)

and when I asked him why he wants to skype. he replied that it's easier to talk like that

as I have not heard of this technique of scam (maybe ?!) before, i blocked and reported him immediately

so my question is simple. is that a new way / technique to hack accounts using skype ? anyone had this similar experience before ?

Maybe skype is safe for them? Valve will have a hard time figuring out whether or not the skype and steam users are the same person.

Not that I've heard of. If all you're doing is chatting / calling you should be fine.

maybe he just wants a friend?

He can track your IP therefore try to send some xXx_NotTrojansAtAllLegitKeyDuplicator.exe.jpg_xXx.
But nowadays its worthless since you need mobile auth to sell/trade/enter in your account.
(Still dangerous for your privacy)

BUT!!!!!

He might try to scam you in another way, using skype as a distraction, so he will do the "give your item to a friend to confirm legit xDDDDDD" scam.

Steam users scammed for kardz using Skype hacks

I've never heard of it, but I suppose anything's possible when people want to scam bad enough.
Skype is one of the easiest ways to get someone's IP, depending on what he wants to do with that info.

yeah there's a whole lot of info that may or may not be attached to your Skype account, especially if it is linked with a Microsoft account and in turn, windows itself.
make sure you're using the latest Skype (as well as everything else in general)

the main thing I believe is he wants to send you fake links, ones that would normally be blocked.
there's a reliable way to test this, if you use Console in Steam client, type: Open http://<insert url here>
if it opens in steam client, then its an official url, if it opens in an external browser, its most likely fake. (or a non-steam site)

If they scam you over Skype, Valve won't ban them because it happened offsite and it's impossible for them to determine if it's the same person.
