When people who struggle with depression or other mental illness show "mood improvement" it can be sign that they are gonna kill themselves. As they already made their mind up and are "at peace" with their life.
Which is contradictory and lead to "but they looked better as of late" reactions.

Goddamn, I can't believe it. I'm so sad that awesome singers like him or Kurt Cobain just goes like that. Why though? Because of his addictions maybe? I know addictions are really bad and not easy to get off even with help. But committing suicide when you have something to hold on like your wife and children? I don't know.

Because people care about people who they know and/or like. Of course noone can really care for thousands of people they never met, but likely having no more albums of a band is quite important for fans. Also attention to mental problems which is important for each and every person living with mental problems or disorders.
