Upon writing this I can see that this was completely my fault but I am curious if there is any action I should take or if I should just walk away from this.

If CD-Keys were not involved see if you can contact Steam Support.
If CD-Keys were not involved see if you can make a report on the site where you traded.

Make a report here with proof

May I ask what classifies as a CD-Key?

A product code such as 4GFJ3-CH37D-38DU2 or something which comes in that kind of format.

Alright I'm a little slow... So I traded a bunch of the Dead Island Epidemic steam gifts first and he sent me a previously redeemed CD-Key. Do I report this and if so what would I select in the scam report section?

Track his IP, find his location, plant illegal content onto his hard drive, inform the FBI, enjoy as the FBI raids his house and you get your revenge ;)

I dont know if they are going to help you with that since there was a previously redeemed key (as mozendo said, IF cdkeys Were NOT involved).

Rules to avoid being scammed

1.- Always ask for his steamprofile (from steam trades). Check if they match

2.- The one with highest rep goes last (unless there are keys or gifts involved)

3.- Trade only with the person you asked to, do not accept random persons for it.

4.- If you are trading gifts for non gifts, the one with the gifts goes last. If he has high rep, he wont scam you. If he has low rep, just avoid it.

Other than that, just cry a bit and be more careful next time.
Mostly, once you are scammed once, you wont be scammed, at least easily in the future.

Sad thing is we hadn't been on steamtrades beforehand. I appreciate all of the reply's and will probably won't be reporting them as I don't really feel like I lost anything important to me (Got them gifts for free). But again thank you too all who replied!

just count yourself fortunate that you didnt get burned badly. Dead Island Epidemic is a free to play game and the invites are really of no value - you got more out of it in a 'lesson learned' capacity than anything else.
