Why Do I Even Bother With Humble Monthly Bundle

Indeed, this is why I have posed that question numerous times. Unless you have to have the games right away then you can often just pick them up later for cheaper. What games are 'Monthly' re-bundles in this one? Offhand I would say Satellite Reign, Hurtworld, Crawl, maybe Screencheat.

edit: add Hacknet to the list.

Armello (July 2017), Hacknet (December 2016) are too.

Armello is in Tier 3 here by itself at the price of Monthly Bundle so I purposely excluded it. Thank you for pointing out Hacknet though.

Some of them yes (you can pick them up later for cheaper), some of them no. Ever since it became clear that HB was going to steadily (though usually slowly) rebundle some (many) of their Monthly games in regular bundles, it's something that's caused me some consternation, as a Monthly subscriber, as I thought about whether that made Monthly not worth it. But many of the games that appear in the Monthly will not be rebundled in this way, we can assume -- at least, they will not necessarily be rebundled in this way -- and if and when they are, it might not be in a bundle that is otherwise attractive to you.

I've come to the conclusion that the Monthly is the better deal for me. They routinely put out really nice, high quality games in it, as well as quite a few games that I had not heard of before they were featured in a Monthly, the kind of game that seems not to make the bundle rounds much... Action Henk, Train Valley, The Banner Saga, The Magic Circle, Broforce, Wasteland 2, Mother Russia Bleeds... These are just some of the games from Monthlies from 10-20 months back that haven't been rebundled anywhere, not to mention the original teaser game that is usually a AAA title that usually does not get rebundled, period and adds a bunch of value to the Monthly. There are also many much more "niche", less well-known indie gems from the more recent Monthlies of this year that may or may not be rebundled, but we'll have to wait and see. And a good number have been rebundled already; still, I was happy to get them in the Monthly and think I got a good deal on them.

Ultimately, $12 for an average of 8 games of what has been a very well-maintained level of quality, in my opinion, is a great deal to me, given that of these 8 you can expect AAA hits as well as lesser AA hits and really novel, interesting hidden gems. And some games you have no interest in, perhaps... It's a bit of a gamble, certainly. You're better suited for it if you have wide-ranging tastes. I think I've ultimately decided that it's easier for me to make the decision to skip the revealed bundles like this one based on the games I've already picked up in a Monthly rather than forgo the Monthly and risk missing out on some great stuff -- as much as I don't really like that way of reasoning, because I kind of feel like a sap for being on the hook for a monthly subscription where I don't know what I'm getting. But I really enjoy the Monthly, both the experience of checking out the reveal and the games themselves. I'll unsubscribe at some point... just not really sure when.

Finally, the easiest thing for me is that, while the Monthly games that appear in the $1 tier and BTA tier make it seem like it's not worth it, what about the ones that are alone in the $12 tier? It's not clear, but I think if I were to pay for the $12 tier in order to get that Monthly rebundle game locked away in the highest tier in regular bundles -- eg. Armello, Grim Dawn, Slime Rancher -- I'd be paying more overall. Plus, the fact that Monthly games hadn't been bundled before makes a difference, even if they're rebundled afterward. For instance, here I'd be paying $12 for this Down Under bundle with Armello, but I'd be getting doubles of Screencheat, which I got in a bundle before Monthly was ever around, and Hand of Fate, also from an earlier bundle. Or, if I bought the $13 tier of the Humble Wild Frontier Bundle with Slime Rancher, I'd get 7 games total, two of which would be doubles for me from earlier bundles (Gods Will Be Watching and Spintires). No chance of that with the Monthly.

Anyway, I don't love the situation, but I guess it's a decent compromise that lets those who don't get the Monthly not miss out completely on the many great games that appear in it.
I'm done...

Why Do I Even Bother With Humble Monthly Bundle

Why do you bother with capitalizing every single word in a sentence?

BTA for me since i wanted hurtworld. Interesting that they've put Armello in T3 considering that it's not the revealed game in the Monthly bundle. Still a great value for the game though mind you, I love the game from my limited time playing it and had it not been for time constraint, I would think I'd played more of the game.

Hurtworld's player population is pretty dead. A few hundred players a day on average with a peak of around 1000. I notice multiplayer-only games get offered on HB when the game's player count gets close to being dead. Feels kind of a shady.

I dunno, I wouldn't say shady. More like a last gasp i think. In any case, 4 bucks is good value for a bunch of games so I can't complaint. :P

$1 is very nice, Satellite Reign and Hand of Fate are on my wish for a while, but I'm tempted at Crawl as well... I guess I'll wait for the BTA to drop some more.

Wow really nice bundle. Hoping it doesn't go up to much before I can buy it. If anyone doesn't have Hand of Fate in their library, it's definitely worth the dollar.

If you can offer some steam wallet, I have a spare hand of fate copy (and other games from this bundle too). Or if you can offer some game. You can check my steam profile, there's the steamtrades thread there.

I appreciate it but I'll most likely be able to buy in a day or two. Looks like it's not shooting up in price right now :)

Usually the BTA goes up considerable in 1 day, and a lot in 2. But not always.
