Phew, let's see how far I get this month!
Game | Bundle | Acheivement/Screenshot | Review |
---|---|---|---|
1. There Is No Light | Feb 2024 | What's next? | 4.5/5. I loved this game. It's not a triple-A title by any means, but the worldbuilding was great and the action was satisfying and not overly punishing. Deducted half a point for the bugs I came across. |
2. McPixel 3 | Oct 2024 | Stop beating my game! | 4/5. I can't decide what to rate this game because the humor is so silly and may not appeal to all. I loved it, but some gags are too long and/or obtuse. Can't wait for McPixel 2! |
3. Frog Detective 1 | Dec 2020 | 100% | 4/5. Very short but sweet. It would be a fun little first adventure game for a kid. Was still enjoyable as an adult. |
4. Jack Move | Oct 2024 | Krall Konfrontation | 2.5/5. It's just okay. Pros: sprite animations, decent story and writing, poison attack is OP. Cons: tedious battles, feels rushed or unfinished, confusing directions. |
5. Jusant | Oct 2024 | Water Piper | 3/5. I really wish I liked this game more. I like the art style and think the cut-scenes are animated well, but I didn't enjoy the climbing gameplay. It was a little buggy for me and I didn't find it fun to mash the trigger buttons. |
6. Dome Keeper | Oct 2024 | The Deep End | 3.5/5. I enjoyed this game but it never fully developed for me. After finishing runs and unlocking certain domes and gadgets, there's nothing else I'm excited about unlocking. Worth a try, but it got old for me after 5 hours. |

Acceleration of SUGURI 2 (June 2018 Humble Monthly). This game was beaten. The achievement that shows the game completion is called Going Faster.

Cj, any update on Garden Life counting for the challenge?

Question: If I am to show proofs through screenshots, what is best to show that I have beat the game and that screenshot is legit?

It's the end of one of the longest/shortest months in recent memory, so here I am sliding under the door once again.
Games for November:
achievements - "Adventurer"
Gotta go fast!
The concept of simply driving through a hazardous course at a high speed is a novel one to me, and I am a sucker for cyberpunk dystopias. It's a shame some of the gravity mechanics and timing jumps could feel so unforgiving.
achievements - "Liberator"
I'm generally more into sci-fi than medieval, and therefore the 40K side of Warhammer more than the original, and this felt similar. The gameplay mechanics felt a bit too simplified and lacking in variation for objectives.
achievements - "Memories of Azur"
I'm glad to see more indie developers are picking up the sort of "control multiple characters" platformer/puzzler seen in Trine and the Lost Vikings. Here, the combat can be frustrating, but the post-launch patch to optionally make the companions you don't control invulnerable is a welcome relief.
achievements - "Redbeard's adventure"
It's nice to notice the gameplay mechanics that Shawarmageddon has incorporated from Ronimo's previous games like Awesomenauts (RIP), and how the strategy elements almost feel reminiscent of something like Brütal Legend or various tower defense games. I do wish the overall difficulty were a bit more forgiving.
achievements - "Overseer"
It's a roguelike twin-stick shooter, alright. The gameplay is mostly solid, but I do wish there were a bit more enemy variety and a way to make the gunplay feel more accurate. As I said, I do like cyberpunk dystopias, but somewhat hypocritically, I did feel like the story could have used something a bit more.
achievements - "Going Faster"
Gotta love indie games. Where else would you combine an anime fighting game with an anime bullet hell shooter?
Getting used to all of the gameplay mechanics took a bit more trial and error than I expected, but it was functional enough once I did. AoS2 is not something I would pick over the conventional fighters, but might make a nice "mess around during downtime in the hotel room" game if I ever decide to attend an EVO tournamenet.

Hello and welcome to the madness!
The challenge is simple: Play and beat any 6 games, starting today, that have been featured in any given Humble Monthly/Choice bundle in one month.
The prize: FINAL FANTASY XVI
Game length does not matter and I'm not looking for 100% achievement runs. So long as you play and beat 6 games, I'm happy. You can go easy mode and play a bunch of 1h games or go crazy and play 6 +30h games. So long as they were in a monthly at a given point, it is all good.
Just post a comment with either screenshots/ achievements showing that you fulfilled the criteria and I'll add you on Steam and give you the link. Feel free to share your thoughts on the games you've played, but it is not required.
FAQ:
Why you doing this?
I hate money. That and I realized I've been subbed to the monthly for over eight years (yes it has been that long, I checked) and it occurred to me that I've barely touched the games I've gotten from it, let alone played them. Figured the same would be true for a few others, so I figured this is a good way to change that. A sensible person would probably unsub in this situation, but please refer to the beginning as to why that will not happen.
I've played the first X minutes of a game, can I pick it for the event?
No. You cannot have any play time or achievements prior to the start of the event. The only exception is idle time from farming Steam cards.
Can I play a MP only game?
No. It needs to have an "end" in order for me to count it as beaten, so it needs to have a campaign/story mode.
If a game was sold as a non-Steam copy in a bundle (origin/uplay/drm-free/etc), can I pick it as a choice if I own a Steam copy?
No. The reason being that those who own a Steam copy would have an extra option that would not be available to everyone who bought the same bundle. If the game was originally sold as a non-Steam copy, but Humble later provided steam keys to everyone who bought the bundle, then the game would be allowed.
Why six games?
The first few monthlies had 6/7 games in them so I went with that.
How long are you going to do this?
Until my credit card statements gives me nightmares.
This event "ends" on December 3rd when the next next HB Choice releases, though the giveaway itself will end the next day. If you manage to finish game number six in between that time, feel free to post, but know that I cannot guarantee that I'll be able to give you the link in time.
Good luck, have fun and stay safe.
Thanks for reading, and no one will blame you for drinking the night away.
