Only strategy games I would ever recommend are Starcraft and Starcraft 2.

Well, i've played most RTS out there and in my opinion once you get hang of Paradox Interactive games there's no other. I personally find Europa Universalis IV to be most fun and noob friendly although there's still a steep learning curve. The simple scale of this game and literally infinite replayability makes it by far number one on my list. No other game has made me completely forget to go to sleep. xD If you decide to give it a try, i'll be more than happy to play with you! :D

for me the second is awesome, they changed a lot from the original but it's still enjoyable.

Damn, completely forgot about that one. I remember trying to beat that dwarf fortress in campaign for hours to no avail. Difficulty hard was really hard. xD

It takes a little bit of work to get it running on Win7, but it still works. I still play them both once a year. XD
Sadly, because of licensing issues, I don't think we'll ever see it on Steam/GOG, or I'd buy it again in an instant.

That was one of the best classic and love it but sadly for sale anymore due to rights issue. i feel that kingdom wars 2: battle is comparable to these in terms of gameplay, defence and sieging.

There are not a whole lot of games out there like Knights of Honor. You've already ruled out Total War, and Lords of the Realm has been mentioned. How about Romance of the Three Kingdoms? Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI is available on Gamer's Gate.

Going with whats been posted already and your responses.

The Endless titles (Endless Space and Endless Legend, with a minor nod to Dungeons of the Endless which more roguelike).
If you're into more turn-based strategy aswell then you may want to consider XCOM (or the Long War mod if you've already done Enemy Unknown/Enemy Within) aswell as XCOM 2 which'll release in a few weeks.

In line with Civilization and the Warlock franchise there's also Age of Wonders III.
You could have a look at Galactic Civilizations III

And if you're really looking to shake things up then perhaps something like Dwarf Fortress or Aurora 4X may be an option.
Though that depends on what kind of strategic planning you're into and what your demands are in terms of graphics and interface.
