Oh I guess I thought everyone had heard about this game by now. It's a spiritual successor to Planescape:Torment which is a fantastically deep rpg:). Highly recommend getting a copy.

Nah, I hardly keep track of most kickstarters myself, but this one has been in discussions for many moons and there's the same amount of hype around it as there was around No Man's Sky...which may or may not be a good thing. However I choose to look at the positive side!

I would be really interested on it but apparently its a real time combat system where you control the whole party. Even if you can manually pause, I hate that. Either give full control to a party in turn based, or let me control only one.

EDIT: Apparently I read wrong, it IS turn based. So... expectations gone up, weee!

Welcome to the club. I'm still really excited for the game, but it was a real let down when the battle system vote went to Real Time with Pause.

It was a really hotly debated topic in the backers forums, and there was a lot of lasting hate over the decision. It really felt like most of us that were long time fans of the isometric CRPG voted for a traditional turn based system, but some how we still lost. People were really quite deeply divided over the issue for what felt like a good several months.

Honestly, I wish that inxile hadn't decided to put the decision up for a vote, since from what I gathered they were initially opting for the turn based approach, especially given how different the system for this game is going to be. There are going to be on the fly choices for everything, and "battle" doesn't necessarily denote actual combat, as you can (or at least were supposed to be able to) use the "battle" system for things like talking your way out of a situation and shit.

Either way, having read up on all the things they are doing with their version of the real time with pause for this game, if it lives up to what they've said anyway, I think it should still end up being pretty epic. We shall see in practice I suppose.

are u sure about that cuz last time i checked combat was supposed to be turn based and not real time with pause

I could easily be mistaken remembering which way the issue finally landed actually. Like I said, there was a huge amount of hate and toxicity in the backers forums over the vote. Ultimately I chose to leave the forums there and basically haven't kept up on anything that hasn't come out in the regular newsletters and what not. So if I am incorrect there and it actually did settle on the Turn Based approach instead, I think that bodes much better for the way the game is supposed to play.

I checked again and yeah it is turn based. I remember voting for real time with pause cuz i would prefer smoother combat specially for a game where combat is not supposed to be that important.

That's actually a good part of the reason why I voted against RTwP. I think if it was going to be a combat heavy game, RTwP would work fine. I mean, I've enjoyed it well enough in Dragon Age games (well, Origins and what few hours I've played of Inquisition since I snagged it a week or so ago on the last day of that 50% off Origin code).

Because Torment is supposed to allow for many options besides actual combat, but all being incorporated into the "combat" system, I felt that it would be a much better choice to go turn based. It would be really awkward to try to sort through various speech options, skills, talents, items, etc all in real time. The end result would, imo, be that you were always having to pause. If you are constantly pausing to take a turn, that's just turn based. Ergo I voted that Turn Based seemed the best option.

That said, this topic inspired me to go check on the beta key since I heard ages ago it was supposed to have beta access for all backers coming. Turns out I was eligible to redeem my key, so I'm downloading it now to go check it out when it finishes downloading. lol

I disliked the combat of all dragon age games. Specially the first, which I found clunky as hell. And its a combat heavy game unfortunately. A friend years later used a mod that instakilled enemies with 1 ability. I wish I had that mod at the time I played the game.

Regardless of the frequency, combat is important in games. Although losing isnt the end in most cases of numenera, I would avoid losing as much as I can. And having real time WITH A PARTY makes it harder for me. I dont think its effective. Baldurs Gate there were some characters which I mostly neglected and didnt fully utilize them as an example.

worked fine in Baldur's Gate for me.
But then, I mostly treated it as turn-based, pausing every so often to change instructions

Not to me. I beat Baldurs Gate 2 but it was annoying. Pausing all the time got old fast. I prefer what they did in Neverwinter Nights and SWTOR, it wasnt really a pause but gave more time for you to act.

That's fair. I think the novelty of it just lasted longer than the game for me

I read that it was real time with pause. Going to check this further. EDIT: Its going to be turn based, the voting was a tie. check here.

I plan on playing eventually, but it will take some effort for me to do so, specially lately where I seem to have problem immersing myself in SP games. Having said that, I have played and beaten plenty of RPGs where I did not enjoy the combat, even though most of them have quite a substantial amount of them. The story\quests\immersion made it up. I just need to have the right mindset I suppose.

Turn based games seems to be a history of the past unfortunately. Very few games nowadays still use it. And theres a prejudice against it, that it "requires no skill".
