Risen 1 and 3 are great. Risen 2 I found alright after I played the other 2. That being said. Gothic 2 rules, Gothic 1 is pretty awesome as well, and Gothic 3 is great too with the best soundtrack I've ever heard along with Skyrim and what not...

I've booted up Risen 2 a couple of times but I'm slightly allergic to anything "pirate" contrary to most people it seems. Gothic is amazing with the DX11 renderer
Edit: Looking into it now I also found this mod on Nexus which seems to use the same renderer but has some other stuff thrown in for good measure, like an enb if I'm not mistaken. Might be worth a try on a separate install

I like pirate stuff (on a sidenote - if you havent, definitely check out Black Sails - a show about pirates, but not the "ooh we drink rum, sing shantys and dig for booty, it is a superb show, gets significantly better after the first season although I liked that one as well.)
Risen 2 I only played after I finished the 3rd one to complete the trilogy and check it out once more, cause the first time I didnt like it, it had bugs and the combat was weirder than usual...

Amazing opening. Bear does awesome scores, Davinci's demons (this dude made an amazing cover https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHMcVGjKBK4). The Battlestar Galactica one blew me away, the way they utilized a certain song to tell the story... (dont wanna spoil it :D)

Nah bro. Clunky controls, plain bad graphics for year 2018, boring story etc . And before u say anything like "bOoOhOoOO NeW KidS OnLy LiKe GaMeS wiTh GoOoD gRaPhicS..." . I have nothing against bad graphics , for example i played cs 1.6 for at least 10k hours and 10 years, and to this day i more enjoy it than any other fps. Also, recently I enjoyed replaying games like Risen123, Gothic1234, Black Mirror 123 just like I enjoyed playing them for the first time. For some reason, I find the controls PB games to be excellent. I even like the controls in Gothic one. Sure, they may not be as smooth as in a modern FPS but they thoroughly sufficient for these kinds of games imho.

I am not saying that the game is bad and that it cant be fun. it depends on what you expect. i expected a Gothic 2 and 3 like experience similar to Risen 2. The biggest letdown for me was world around you and the world. You can read my review if you want to understand what I mean.
I am used to Gothic being hard and thats not the big letdown for me.

This actually sounds like a positive thing in my book. I generally dislike the "modern" design where stuff scale with your level in games but I suspect this is present here as well. Challenge is always good though :)

I have my doubts about the "balance" in this game. I know it's clunky and animations suck, I played Risen a lot and I'm okay with it. But the fact that game starts being actually fun after 6-8 hours is terrible, I won't be able to refund it then.
I just purchased it, will play tomorrow. Honestly, the fact that it doesn't have Denuvo made me buy it. I'd gladly support any game that doesn't use that crap.

It seems like people either really love it or passionately hate it. This ACG review is pushing me towards buying (ACGs reviews are awesome and most of the time I agree with his conclusions). But others reviews.. make me very uncertain.
My self imposed rule is $20 budget per month for games, and always with discount, though if I don't buy a game, next month won't be $40. But with my wallet funds ELEX is right in $20 mark. Meaning - if I buy I won't be able to buy anything else this month.
Tough choice.
It's on my wishlist in no. 3. And I really attend to my wishlist. I'd be less hesitant with Nioh (which is lower) if it had a big discount. Okay, I'm beginning to ramble. Anyone got a tip that'll help me decide?

I think the graphics and animation are decent enough (mixed bag). This doesn't bother me. Controls and combat being clunky does.
From known reviewers there are enough that say the story (world-building) is the best part of the game, even reviewers that hated everything about it say that.
Playing 1 hour won't really give you a good experience to judge this aspect.
Issues like bad NPC AI, non-responsive monsters, tolerating 8+ hours before the game opens up (and being killed by almost everything), janky combat.. those are troubling. :-/

If you already played any PB game then this is the best since Risen 1 and Gothic 3 1.75 :D!
Also there are some mods fore better quality and if can run it at 4K WITH AA and 200% scale ... I can not call that bad at all :)) !
