I thought I'd post an announcement for this one since it was an issue most users were experiencing.

Issue

If you created a new group, there was almost a 90% chance it wouldn't sync, and therefore you wouldn't be able to create giveaways for the group. As well, changes to existing groups (name changes, avatar changes, etc), were unlikely to take place.

Why

We loaded group data from the Steam XML feeds, and they added more restrictions in the past months, limiting requests to roughly 60 unique pages in a 15 minute window. This meant when your group tried to sync, it likely failed because the request limit was already reached. Staying within this limit, it would have taken 4 months to sync our user groups just once, so obviously this wasn't practical.

Fix

The fix was simple, loading group data from another source without restrictions, such as the HTML pages. Our group syncing method was recoded yesterday, with all of our groups being resynced last night. If you had a group that wasn't appearing, it should now be displayed. From this point forward, if you create a new group and sync your account, the group will be available on SG within a minute.

Hmm that still doesn't seem to fix groups still being listed on my SG, even when I left them long ago an Steam. Or is it just me?

hmm, not sure about ones you left a long time ago but I left quite a few groups last night and I'm still in them, but once I did a force sync, it correctly removed those groups from my list

I am talking about a public group that I left like a year ago ... consequently I probably force synced like a hundred times since and SG still thinks I'm in that group.

Which group?

The "Tomb Raider" group. I joined it when I was new to Steam and TR was one of my first games. Then I learnt that it's pretty much useless spam, so I left it.

I sent you a friend request so we can see if the issue is on our side or Steam's side. However, I can't see any reason why the group would remain, unless Steam is still reporting it on your account. We'll check though.

Okay, thanks for looking into it. If I can help with debugging, just send me a msg on on Steam, I'm often in "offline" status, even when in fact online, because I'm using the web gui.

What about empty wishlist after sync? Maybe it could be possible to sync library and wishlist separately?

Thanks for the update, pity Valve isn't a bit more cooperative/communicative with such changes, would make it easier for your site. I think I gained about a dozen groups, didn't even realize that many were missing...
