I was luckily able to use some of mine because there was a couple games in the Humble monthly that I am interested in and I didn't buy it, so I don't have a lot right now, probably around 1000, but they are still stored in future GAs. Last year I think I had about 9200 stored at one point. I think it was during the community train.

When you don't have GAs to enter, it feels like you are missing out because others spend all their points on anything they can while you just enter for games you want to play, so it feels good to store them up for the next big bundle. I usually run out of GAs to store them in though. so a lot go wasted.

Edit: I remember taking a screenshot to post somewhere and I just found it. The image says It was last modified on 9/30/22, which was 2 days after the last community train ended.

In a 30 day month, people that spend their points and don't let their account sit at the 400 point cap get 17,280 points. So if you are only entering for a small number of GAs, you could store a lot more, but the issue becomes finding future GAs to store them in. I also manually copy and paste all the URLs in a text file and then have to remove the entries before the GAs expire, so it's a lot of work. Because of that, I only store them in GAs that cost at least 15 points to enter and I almost always run out of GAs to store them in and just let the rest of the points vanish.

Edit: This wasn't a problem back when we used to get a certain number of points based on the value of all GAs created on the site rather than a static set amount like we do now. Now when a big bundle is released and a lot of GAs are created, you instantly run out of points if there is 1 or 2 games you are interested in, where in the past you would get more points because more GAs were being created and it would balance itself out.

I hope I don't come off in a bad way here. But does this actually pay off? It feels like a lot of work for not much gain. I know I don't enter much but I never have to spend much to enter everything I want (there are 28 giveaways in my front page feed right now).

I don't have too many games to enter anymore either because I only enter for games I am interested in playing and I already own most of what I want. I currently have over 23,000 games hidden on SG.

It is a lot of work and since there aren't many good bundles anymore, the only time I really find storing points useful is for the Humble Monthly. If there ends up being a couple games you are interested in and you don't buy it yourself, you will almost instantly run out of points entering giveaways because of the 400 point limit, especially if they are high value games.

It's annoying to know that there are so many users that just enter every giveaway they can to get a +1 on their Steam account, so they get much better odds of winning games because they have so many points to spend. Those of use that just enter for games we are interested in and end up sitting on the 400 point limit for most of the month are just throwing thousands of points away.

I know the feeling, but instead you throw away a lot of time to juggling around with the points to be over the max. 400 limit.
Is this really "better" for the few games that you want to win and don't own ?

I am sure that if you would spend only 1/10th of that time for some paid work you could purchase all games that you want to win and still have 9/10th of lifetime to spend "useful/better" .
Of course my thoughts.... but maybe interesting for you as other point of view.

I only use the max. 400p limit, don't store points, hide all games that i own or don't want to win (17k+ right now) , have 1k users on my BL and still have mostly 2 - 3 pages of visible GAs.
It feels ok for me because anyway no real user have a chance to "win" against the hordes of autojoiners and multiaccounts (when Hb monthly GAs get made are a lot level 0... and the ones above are a tiny part that. Maybe, 800 points would be needed to enter all of them but not thousands).

Yes, if I had a job or much of a life for that matter, my time would probably be worth more, but I am currently unemployed with more time than money. I'm sure I can make better choices with my life, but that is not currently happening.

The first couple days after the Humble monthly is released, I probably spend around 3000-4000 points on giveaways just from that bundle if there are a couple games I am interested in. Sometimes I spend the time storing points and then have nothing to spend them on if I am not interested in the games. Having over 9000 points stored is not normal. That was just because there wasn't many giveaways I was interested in entering, but there was an almost unlimited supply of future giveaways to store points in because of the community train with month long giveaways.

It can be a lot of work juggling giveaways to store points if I keep up on it throughout the month, but lately I have mostly been storing them in the week before the Humble Monthly is released since there aren't many good bundles anymore and if there is a really good bundle, I might end up buying it anyway.

I say it is a lot of work because it feels that way when copying and pasting links over and over, and also noting when each GA ends and how many points they are worth, but in reality, it probably only takes about 5 minutes per day.

I was able to get 4k this month. But 9k - dude, this is just unbelievable. I don't think there are enough GAs for me here to even come close. ^^

I don't have an exact count because I just have links in a text file, so I don't have an easy way to remove them all to count the points. My best estimate was that I had around 2500-3000 points stored at the beginning of the Humble Monthly that just passed. I didn't use many of them this month and I currently have about 1700-2000 points stored.

The almost 9500 points that I showed was the most I ever stored and is not normal. The only reason I was able to store that many was because I was storing them in giveaways that were being created for the community train. The giveaways were open for a month and there was almost 2200 created which made it easy to store as many points as I wanted.

I probably usually store around 2000-3000 points leading up to the Humble Monthly. Then if there are games that I want and I am able to spend the points, I will be below the 400 point cap and start getting 6 points again every 15 minutes like normal. That will give you 576 points per day plus whatever is stored. That is why I estimated in a comment above that I use about 3000-4000 points in the first couple days after the Humble Monthly if there are a couple games I am interested in. 2000-3000 stored plus the 576 per day.

It is not uncommon to be only interested in one or even no games though, and then I just have to remove the entries before the giveaways end and slowly use the points over the next weeks while not being able to gain any because I am over the 400 point cap. That is where I am at now. I already started storing points again yesterday because I can't find enough giveaways to enter than I am interested in.

I have entered all the giveaways for the next 27 or so games I wanted, and I got to 400P since then. I guess this happens if you hide many, many games, and buy most of the bundles / games you're interested in :)
Use those points well!

For some reason I always thought there would be a limit to how many point you can accumulate, that's an impressive amount of points.

The cap for "natural" accumulation is 400. This needs constant micromanagement by storing the points in long running giveaways and shuffling them over to new ones when they get close to running out.

Yeah I knew you could get extra points this way, but I thought there would be a limit after which you'd just lose your point. I'm surprise to see that that you can get that many points by storing them in GAs, seems like a lot of work though.

The real limit according to CG is 2,147,483,647 points because that is the largest 32-bit signed integer. It is not possible to get anywhere near that though because you can only store points in currently running giveaways. Also, at 6 points every 15 minutes, you get a max of 17,280 points in a 30 day month.

Hmm, does SG have a cap of 400p for giveaways of games costing more than $400? You could be the only one able to win https://store.steampowered.com/app/2193940/The_Hidden_and_Unknown/ hehe

I stopped storing points, and I only enter games I want to win and eventually play.

Anyway I have too many games and many in my ignored list here, so except on big/popular bundles and end of year events, I have more than enough points most of the time, often week after week nearing or reaching 400p.

However, the numbers I've seen in this thread are really astounding, indeed.
