There is no such thing as chance. Only unknown variables. Computers cannot be completely random. I would like to find the list of results and which numbers won, so I can try to find the pattern that the Boolean is following, and help Steamgifts make it as random as possible.

I don't need the names or anything, just the numbers.

I also think that the system is a little weird. Some people have over 100 wins.

And they've entered a lot of low entry giveaways..

Gifts Won
280

I see nothing wrong with the system. If you enter 1000 GAs 1000 Entries each and I enter 1000 GAs 10 Entries each guess which one of us will win more ;)

That part of the sentence doesn't make any sense...

OP lost all credibility when he mentioned this.. Boolean following a pattern ? what ??? Dunno what he was told a Boolean is.

That only shows 90K giveaways, so is only like 1/5 of all SG giveaways.

Although it's true that computers cannot be completely random, to the best of our understanding, there is such a thing as true randomness at the level of quantum mechanics. I have it on good authority that SteamGifts uses a hardware random number generator based on Brownian motion, which is freshly brewed every morning.

So no background radiation? Is the brewing done by random person? ;D

Even if you had a list of all GAs you entered and which ones you won, there's a LOT more variables that can possibly matter (Depending on how the system works)

A few examples of what could matter in determining the outcome:

  • amount of entries
  • order of entries
  • names of people who entered (alternative to order of entries)
  • time of GA closing (time is often a seed in RNGs)

These are just common examples, you could even go as far as using the game name/app ID in the random seed or include some randomization to the list of people who entered. All depends on how important a truly random number really is (how much server power will you dedicate to generating a random winner and how much time do you want to spend programming/bugtesting the generator)

Did you know that without food coloring, Coca-Cola would be green? The more you know...

The algorithm is rather simple, it includes an inflatable pool filled with peanut butter, A LOT of many-colored balls, a bunch of trained pot-bellied pigs and CG himself - completely naked and covered in lube.
