Let's face it, as a publisher Atlus has done a lot of good over the years. However, they also tend to have somewhat questionable...investments maybe? However, there's no question that the Atlus developed games (over the last 10 years at least) are good. Possibly because they're all standard SMT games? Yes, this question boils down to this: Why is Shin Megami Tensei not on Steam? Are there any similar games on Steam?

The last games I saw with the Atlus name on them was the Disgaea series. Are they even still making games?

They didn't make that, it was only published by them. Disgaea is from Nippon Ichi Software.

Whether they were the developers or just the publishers, whatever. I'm just saying that those were the last games I've ever seen their name attached to.

They make plenty of stuff still, I know a number are on the 3DS.

As a publisher they're still releasing stuff, the latest (on Steam) being The Tesla Effect. Don't know much about them as a developer.

They made Catherine, it's a Megami Tensei Spin-off.

It's not a spin-off.
Vincent in P3P was a teaser for their new game that the Persona team was working on.

Aside from that everything Persona-related in Catherine are easter eggs, there's nothing that hints that they are set in the same universe.

They don't really do PC to my knowledge. I think the only SMT game on PC was the Imagine MMO, which was developed by another developer.

I think that was developed by Aeria, or at least published by them

Probably because they're a relatively small company that makes heavily Japan-focused games, and the PC gaming market over there is practically non-existent. Plus the majority of people who want to own their games outside Japan likely own a console, since that style of game is far more common on consoles and handhelds. It likely wouldn't be worth the effort or expense for them to produce PC ports.

My guess is that they dont care too much about PC really because in Japan, PC gaming is for perverts.

I can't even remember what games they made for the PC so far... They are mostly developers and publishers for console systems.

They are based in japan, they don't make hentai games, so therefore, they don't make PC games. Yes, this is how Japan operates.

But, what about Square Enix or Nigoro? (The latter are indie, but still.

With the exception of the few Final Fantasy games, two of which are MMOs, SE's PC titles are done by Western devs. As for Nigoro, you answered your own question.

"they don't make PC games"
Falcom does, and some popular games have gotten PC ports like Persona 1 and Breath of Fire 3.

While I wouldn't be surprised the majority are eroge and visual novels they still do make games for PCs that aren't MMOs.

I remember Atlus had the Tactics Ogre license for awhile, before Square Enix bought it off from them. (I for one am keeping my fingers crossed for a Tactics Ogre PC/Steam port...maybe an "Anthology" bundle that combines the "LUCT/Wheel of Fate" and "Knight of Lodis" campaigns together, plus perhaps tools to create our own TO Campaigns and share them on Steam Workshop?)

i dimly remember playing a tactics ogre game in my console gaming past(still have a 360 and possibly a DS somewhere but PC has so many games i just dont bother with them anymore), so more ports is fine with me :)

I'm guessing Atlus have some kind of contract or agreement with Sony and Nintendo about SMT.
There are a number of games published by Atlus on Steam though: http://store.steampowered.com/search/?publisher=ATLUS.
And if by similar to SMT games you mean first-person dungeon crawlers, there are some on Steam as well (list incomlete):
-Wizardry
-Might & Magic
-Legend of Grimrock

id be much more inclined to believe its a lack of caring for the PC market, Capcom aside i cant name a japanese dev that does PC at all really thats mainstream(square's western based stuff doesnt count to me)

SMT hasn't been a first person dungeon crawler series for a loong time. My preferred part about the SMT games is the ability to fuse demons.

Strange Journey?
If we're not counting the re-releases Strange Journey is still one of their newer games.

I honestly forgot Strange Journey existed. It just doesn't give off the same dungeon crawl (emphasis on crawl) vibe that a lot of other first person dungeon crawler games do.

To me it felt like any other dungeon crawler, especially a MegaTen one.
It was shorter, but it's a DS game.

Because there aren't "any" Atlus developed games on PC.

Persona 3: The Night Before (browser game) - but no one means "browser game" when they are referring to games on PC, no?

Persona Ain Soph (browser game) - same as above.

The end.

They published the most recent Tex Murphy game and a few others recently on PC, but it's not surprising they want to make more games for 3DS and WiiU than anything else being Japanese

Atlus (formerly Index Corporation) should be making more games I think!
They have only released a handful of English-language games for Windows (most of their games are Japanese):

  • Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine (2007)
  • The Cursed Crusade (2011)
  • Game of Thrones (2012)
  • Knights of the Sky (2012 browser game) *
  • Shadowland Online (same as above) *
  • BattleSpace (same as above) *
  • Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure (2014)

(*) = Knights of the Sky, Shadowland Online, and BattleSpace are all 2012 browser games
