So being a complete noob to this site and trading in general, can one of you lovely people explain what these are and how to work out how many keys games are worth? I have quite a few game keys I want to trade for other games but no one seems interested so I'm wondering if it would be easier to get keys and then trade them for the games I want instead.

Long story short ... The keys are used as sort of trade currency ...
1 key is worth Betwen 1.75 and 2$ ( depending if its TF2 or CS GO ) ... and depending who you trade with .

IF you want to sell games for keys ... it Really depends if we are talking bout bundled games or non bundle games .

IF its a bundle game ... chances is you will need quite a few games in order to reach a key worth of them .

Lets put a Random indie gala bundle with 12 games in it worth 1.99$ on launch ...
You will literally need to trade all 12 games for a key ( if you are lucky )

As for non bundle games , most of times people take the historical lowest price as its value .

Lets say you have Nekopara ... Game is worth 10$ on steam , however lowest price on sale was 5$ ...
So most people will be willing to give you ~ that much at most for the game .

Thats kind of a short ... unfocused explanation of how keys and stuff work i guess.

Those keys are the closest Steam had for currency before the sacks of gems. You can check the market on how much certain keys are worth and adjust your expected price for your game key accordingly. Don't expect much value for bundle/bad indie game keys.
Except if they were removed from Steam and stay removed. Those things eventually get expensive since people collect removed games. It's also super rare…
