Jeeez, am I the only one frustrated for not being able to play hockey, baseball or rugby (Well I think that that one is not even made anymore) on PC?

That's the thing consoles have I don't. D:

sports games are mostly published by EA ranging from fifa to ufc or nhl, nba. if you use Origin you will get to know more of them.

Great examples of non-origin sports game on pc is virtua tennis (though I prefer top spin on 360).

They don't do UFC (THANK GOD FOR THAT) they did EA sports MMA though. The funny thing is that Dana White asked EA to do UFC but EA practically laughed in his face so Dana went and did it with other companies. Only after the succes of the UFC games do EA make the game because they are money grabbing bitches imo.

I mostly took to playing simulators, like OOTP, Eastside Hockey Manager, Front Office Football, Football Manager, and about a billion others. There just aren't many good games right now.

The problem started with EA knowing they didn't have the best Football game back in 2004. They grabbed the Football license, which then meant the best Football series could no longer be made, which was the 2k one. In retaliation, 2k Sports got the 3rd-party baseball license, but made awful baseball games ever since. The EA, MVP series, was way better. Now, the 2k series is so awful that they won't even release it on PC. They are contractually obligated to release on consoles, but they barely develop it anymore because they are so bad at it.

After that, some more licenses were scooped up, like the NCAA one, creating way less competition among sports games. The big three left to compete on were soccer, hockey, and basketball. EA was awful at making basketball games, so they actually took their own series, NBA Live, off the market and it hasn't been heard from since. It was supposed to come back, under a different name, but never did. That leaves hockey and soccer.

Soccer games are all over because the sport is very popular around the world. Hockey, not so much so. With no real sales to be made and piracy, they just don't make them for PC anymore.

Basically pick new sports. You can get last years MLB 2K game, a lesser than the console version of NBA 2K, a crapload of soccer games, cycling, racing, fighting, and some random other sports, like cricket and tennis. Pretty much your best bet would be to get a ps3 and play MLB The Show and the other sports games on it. Otherwise, take up playing simulators.

Blame piracy, poor companies, and bad licenses.

Soccer? SOCCER?!

I like sports games from all over the world. I'll play Rugby, Cricket, international Basketball, etc... However; it is impossible to mention American Football and Futbol/Football at the same time, hence why Americans call it Soccer. Personally, I don't care for calling ours Football, but what can you do?

So why do you mix up the names? Call the american thing by its actual name, Handegg, and the problem is solved.

I hate that joke, ok they mostly use their hands in american football but the ball is still a ball regardless of its shape

Yet, handegg is still more accurate than football, because they barely use their feet. And considering that there is already world-wide known game called football, it's somewhat odd to insist on using this same name and to refer to the other game as soccer :)

That's a pretty good explanation, except I don't understand why you put blame on piracy. Unless you mean the publishers' delusion that piracy kills their PC sales, but that goes in the 'poor companies' category.

Piracy existing is what caused the sports games to move off from PCs. It drove prices down and made less copies be sold. Now does that mean they shouldn't be on it? No. It is bad companies, but, piracy had to exist for it to happen in the first place. Sports games are generally more popular on consoles and harder to get for free, so they simply backed off from making many of them for the PC. They can charge more on consoles, so that doesn't hurt, either.

I didn't place the blame on piracy, I just meant that having it exist is part of the blame. If it didn't exist, many of the sports franchises that aren't on PC, would likely make their way back because it would be extra money to be made. So yes, the companies are to blame, but they are basing their information off from what they think of piracy and it had to exist for it to be a problem.

The baseball game, yes. But Jonah Lomu Rugby Challenge is still the best, modern rugby game out there, since there isn't much out there in the first place

This is why I took to playing OOTP. You don't get to play a graphical game with controllers, but it has everything else in abundance. It is about the best you can do on PC.

FIFA is going to be on the PC, but they're not using the new IGNITE engine, which pisses me off.

Damm. We're back at that. I thought EA finally realised that was stupid when they actually used their latest engine on FIFA 11 I think it was.

I must say, not having sports games on the PC has never bothered me. If I ever feel like playing a sport, I tend to go out and play it in real life.

I want some Skateboarding games on PC. The only good recent one I've seen is Skate 3 which came out a few years ago, but that's only for consoles :'c

I'm pretty frustrated by it myself, it's one of the main reasons I keep getting playstation consoles as a companion to my pc. What sucks the most is nba2k is apparently leaving the pc space...

I agree. And I think one of the main problems is the licencing model. Sports leagues and associations should not require payment or give exclusive rights for representing them in games. That only causes monopolies of the rich publishers that don't give a damn about gamers.

Of course, this is ultimately the fault of gamers themselves, most of whom can't be bothered to download and install a 'real names patch' before playing a game, and so sports games without licences tend to fail.

No, I am frustrated as well. As much as I like NHL 09, an update would be great.
