Do these Signify a must-buy for you?

View Results
[Tier 1] A lot cheaper than the sale price, I'll bite.
[BTA] I can make do without the T3 games if it's cheap enough.
[Tier 3] Now this is a proper lineup, not those usual re-bundles of rebundled leftovers.
[Have] I should learn() not to buy from stores and just wait for the inevitable bundle.
[Skip] I don't like puzzles, or I like puzzlier puzzlers than these.

I saw 4,26 Euro lowest BTA:

I got keys named:

  1. while True: learn() Chief Technology Officer Edition
  2. while True: learn() Art Pack
  3. while True: learn() Mega Map of Machine Learning
  4. while True: learn() Learn Soundtrack

I haven't activated yet.

Does 1st key activate complete pack or just the base game?
I'm asking because it is named while True: learn() Chief Technology Officer Edition not just while True: learn().

Will consider buying Mars Horizon. Maybe price is not so good but lowest historical for this game was the same as difference between T3 and T2 and i almost bought it recently as a separate game. Also have 0 games from this pack :)

I don't feel this bundle.
Also, while True: learn() is on my wishlist, it currently costs €8 to get it, aa €11 game with extra swag that I really don't care about (infographics, music, art pack).

Good on you, I'm not interested in any of the others. If I would pay 11€ for the game, I would already own it. Backlog time it is :)

If people want while true learn, but don't like the BTA price being so close to T3 now, there is the mobile game for $5 on at least the Android store.

For me, I want Mars Horizon since I played the Beta and while true learn which has been on my wishlist. Lumines seems like a neat casual-ish puzzle game too.

So for those games and the fact that machine learning intrigues me, then T3 is for me.

What with the regular bundles being better than Choice lately... this however is a harder sell for the price of T3, I may wait for some other future chance to get Retro Machina.

I wanted to try Lumines for a while, but won't buy T2 for this alone. At least not with current average.

For me this is a good bundle. I have none of them already. while True: learn() has been on my wishlist. I'm a space nerd so I think I will really enjoy Mars Horizon. Gotta love Lumines. And Heal, The Signifier Director's Cut, and Retro Machina all look good. Tier 3 for me.

While True: learn() is hot garbage with manipulated steam reviews (they solicit them in-game from selected players and it skews the results heavily). If you think it's some kind of zach-like, but for machine learning, you will be heavily disappointed.

What do you mean by the manipulated reviews?
(Regardless, the mentions of boring, repetitive gameplay that has little to do with programming is enough on its own to drop the idea of getting the game)

You see an in-game message prompting you to leave a review. But only if you finished the last puzzle, you'll never be encouraged to leave a review unless you play the game till the end. An insidious practice that should be banned by Steam in my humble opinion. The game definitely wouldn't be 90%+ positive if they didn't do this, because players who drop the game after 2 hours are far less likely to affect the rating.

It's not just my subjective opinion that this game is far too terrible for its rating. When you go to the review page and order reviews by "most helpful" (link) you see an entirely different picture then when you just quickly look at the store page. This confirms that the review bias is real and has a noticeable effect: best reviews are about half negative, but there are plenty of low-rated low-effort positive reviews. I check every game this way before buying now, you usually don't see such a large disparity.

I dont think encouraging people to leave a review after they finished the game is biased. If anything, those first impression reviews, reviews from those who hasnt finished a game, might not reflect the game as a whole. People are free to leave a review whenever they want anyway, so those who dont like the game can still leave a review with their critism without being encouraged to do so. Besides, i would be annoyed if a game asks me to leave a review after... say, every hour or so.

That being said, i havent played the game so i can't say whether it is good or bad. I just want to comment about the biased part.

Ok, let me clarify my point: they are addressing a group that's far (far!) more likely to like the game and asking them to write reviews. That group is the very definition of a biased sample, thank you very much. Those who were left out of that sample can still write a review, sure, nobody prevents them from doing so, but that's not the point. The point is that nobody is encouraging them to do it, unlike the other group. Positive reviews end up being overrepresented with respect to what we would see if the devs didn't solicit reviews.

Well, ok, but maybe that encouragement didn't matter all that much. How can we even tell that the rating is skewed? They didn't ask that group to give a thumbs up on other reviews that they liked. Therefore we expect the review count to be biased, but the review ratings to be unaffected. And lo and behold, the sample of most helpful reviews doesn't match the general population, as a matter of fact it's much more negative, exactly in the predicted direction.

It's a subtle issue, but it's tangible and I think they know exactly what they're doing. Gaben should outlaw any and all forms of review soliciting, especially requests made in-game. Thank you for listening to my TED Talk. :D

I get your point now. I still think that it is not a problem if they are not asking for a thumbs up though. As i said before, first impression reviews might not reflect the game as a whole. Does this happen to all games that use this tactic? If it is not, it might be because people are not buying a game that they expected to be.

False - I put in a few hours and then I was prompted to click a link to go to the Steam page to leave a review.

I dont think it's inherently more biased for a game to ask for reviews, especially if it's done at any point in the game and not just near the end. In fact, I don't know why more Steam games don't ask for reviews. Doesn't have to be anything crazy like some Mobile games, but I get why someone would want to ask for a review for their game.

I admit I was going from my own example, I didn't survey other players or anything like that. But I definitely got a prompt after finishing the game in a just under 11 hours. You're sitting at 15 hours as of 3 hours ago (excuse me for stalking your profile :P), how many hours was "a few hours" for you? I'm pretty sure you'll see that prompt again after the last puzzle too.

Most importantly, that doesn't fundamentally change my point. The disparity and its explanation (from my other post) stand. Note that even asking for a review as little as 2 hours in still biases the sample of reviewers (bias is a property of a sample, nothing is "inherently biased", it's always relative to the rest of the population). This is exactly what happens in Deleveled (just scroll to the bottom and marvel at how asymmetrical this dataset is):

https://steamcommunity.com/app/1045580/reviews/?p=1&browsefilter=toprated

I know I'm being pedantic about a minor issue, this is something of a pet peeve of mine (or I wouldn't pull another example out of a hat :D). But I sincerely hope devs refrain from asking for reviews in-game, because this has a real effect of artificially inflating the rating and I have the numbers to show it.

Also if anyone reading this has more examples, do share them with me. ^^

A few hours meant ~5 hours.

15 hours does not represent actual game time because of an issue:

You should know that I noticed an issue sometimes after closing the game that Steam shows the game as still running despite the game window actually closing and me not finding the game running in task manager.

Therefore, around 10 hours of that was because of this issue and me keeping my computer running overnight.

You have nothing to prove to me - I don't care about the game asking for reviews in the way that it is.

I'm just here to clear up any statements you make about the game that are not consistent with my own, and I've done that now.

Reluctant. I was interested in "while True: learn()", but that was offered on Epic for free not long ago and it wasn't as interesting as I'd hoped, so the DLC doesn't entice me. I was hoping for something like "7 Billion Humans". I'll have to try the "Mars Horizon" demo, and that will be the deciding factor.

Nah, there isn't anything in that bundle that I would want to play right now, so there is no reason to buy it and hoard more games in my library. If there was Bug Fables, Bomb Chicken, Unavowed, Inmost or Creaks in it for example (some of the games from the top of my wishlist) I would buy it.
