When chatting with the geezers mention that you have several known points and would like to find values for additional ones. In this case only x=666 is needed, bit they know all the points.

The puzzle could have asked for x=2.5, x=3.7. x=4.1 - any x let/right/or between the given points really. 666 is just something safe that yields a nice 8 digit integer that you can't guess without going through the motions of ... what the old fellows want you to do.

OK, that makes more sense then... But still, the last time I had to deal with something like this was 8 years ago... Since then I mainly focused on stuff like history of cinema and working with animals (so totally I went the opposite way 🤠🙃)
