+1 for Dark City, it was too overshadowed by The Matrix
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't know why you prefer Dark city more... you might have some reasons, I've watched both movies but I prefer matrix more.. not their sequels but matrix only. It is followed by Animatrix (which doesn't fall on the trilogy), then only reloaded and revelations.
I want to recommend it to you.

Influence [edit] Edit wiki-text]
Despite the very moderate box office, the "Dark City" became one of the iconic films of the 1990s. That's what the online resource allmovie says about this:
Who loves stories straight and rooted in reality, should avoid this film, but for those who have nothing against mixing entertainment with metaphysics, "The Dark City" is one of the most underrated films of the 1990s. [6]
The influence of his artistic decision and philosophical problems is felt in the "Matrix", which was filmed in the same Sydney scenery a year after the "Dark City". [1] According to Ebert, "The Dark City" embodied the effects that the "Matrix" creators sought, only earlier, with great sense and imagination

Isn't Fahrenheit 451 a book?
Can you link Los cronocrimenes on IMDB?
Right now when I am commenting while I am listening to Moon soundtrack at 00:59:15. I love that movie and Ex Machina as well. Am a Computer Engineer and the Turing Test always intrigued me.

Regarding book/movie adaption, I think at most time it always will be what user came upon first either book or movie (In my view). My first cross experience was The Martian. I read the book first and watched the movie later. I loved the book more. I watched Schindler's list first and read the Schindler's Ark later. I loved the movie more.
I think each crates how book/movie would flow, hence killing much of the expectations regarding the story itself.. each moving on each other loses all the plot, the excitement it tends to create..
But my preference would be books at first.. that builds the imagination in respect of you. The Martian by Andy Wier VS The Martian by Ridley Scott (One of my favorite director) made me think no matter how good the Director is it won't match your exception in most of the cases.

You can watch "Alien Covenant" at the movie theater right now.

Would I be Jack Sparrow for movie industry in my country if they had released them here?
Anyways always fan of Ridley Scott. This was on my wish-list after seeing Prometheus.
Too bad only useless movies(most of the time) are shown here. Last good movie I watched on the hall was The Martian.

Hey, psst, "Firefly". Space+cowboyish chracters, shake, not stir, perfect combo.
Maybe some "Hitchhiker's guide to galaxy" for fun time? Brilliant (the book(series actually) is better though).
"Moon" (2009 movie) for some serious mood?
You'll probably like "Dark city". Some of the scenes might look familiar because they were used in matrix afterwards.
Speaking of Matrix, you'll probably like "Nirvana".
The last one I can think of is cyberpunk (still sci-fi right?) movie "Johnny mnemonic".
Bonus if you're into anime and cyberpunk "Ghost in the shell", don't know if movie is any good, but anime was for sure.

Firefly - series???? If series added to watch-list.
Hitchhiker's guide to galaxy: Watched it... I didn't know there was a book.. I have added it on my "to-read-list"
Nirvana couldn't find it. Can you give me a link to IMDB.
Johnny mnemonic- Added on watch-list.
Ghost in the shell: watched anime, wont watch Hollywood adaptation because most of my friends didn't recommend to it.
Thanks for recommendations :)

I loved it too. Some part of me says make sequel. Another says don't make it you'll ruin the movie.
And what a Coincidence.. I am listening to soundtracks all this time and District 9's soundtrack plays on background. Like what happened on "Moon movie comment on this thread".
If you want to listen to it here's a link at 01:09:00.

The Last Starfighter came out with 2 similar titles in IMDB can you give me a link to it?
No list is big. Give me most of underrated and unknown tiles.
The more the merrier. :)

The Last Starfighter It's an older movie 80's and to be honest it shows, I just got done watching it a few minutes ago and I couldn't shake a Enders Game feel.
A few other titles that I can think of before I head to bed.
They may not all have outstanding reviews or a great rating, but perhaps one of them might land on your watchlist.
Supernova
Mission to Mars
The Last Days on Mars
The 5th Wave
400 Days It's slow at times and left me confused, but it's a scifi channel movie that actually turned out pretty okay
Parallels Been meaning to rewatch this one
Cloud Atlas
Doomsday If you like Mad Max this may be your cup of tea

I'm assuming you must have seen The Terminator, but someone mentioned the sequel and you don't want to skip the first one. Also, all the recommendations for Arrival remind me that the 1996 film The Arrival is worth watching. You should also watch the 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers and the 1982 version of The Thing.

Arrival was good.
Ghost in the Shell from 1995 is a masterpiece.
District 9 was a cool and well-executed political metaphor.
EDIT: Oh, and yeah, I back the recommendation for Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It's a great sci-fi comedy; kind of one-of-a-kind. Great humour.

Okay, you look like you like sci-fi concepts and atmosphere. So here are a few selections I think you may like, that seem to fit the caliber of what you state you already like. Trying to avoid anything too pop-culture insane sci-fi, you seem to prefer more cerebral interesting idea sci-fi stuff.
Must Sees (great concepts and executions):
Decent Picks, you may well enjoy, or might not:
Some more TV type picks:
As far as sports motivational movies goes, if you have not seen "Rudy", you may as well murder yourself. That is my favorite sports motivational epic. :p

And I'll bring up an old one here too- HERESY!!!!!!!!!!!
How DARE you name those films and have never seen Time Bandits!
That's like growing up in the 80s with the music and not knowing who Bruce Springsteen or Bon Jovi are

Others I have watched them. Just finished Season 1 of Westworld a week ago waiting for next season.
I've watched 3 seasons of Fringe I thing I gave of after that lost a bit of momentum for me. How are season 4 and 5? If they are good I might get back to it again.
I agree with Rudy. My favorite too.
Comment has been collapsed.
They are good. It did lose some momentum. They were milking things too much.
I remember the creators talked to a Hugo winning sci-fi author, and he told them that all good sci-fi wasn't about milking an idea, it was about diving in and searching for new ones. They sort of had a writing refocus in the last couple seasons. Whether you'll like it or not, not sure, but in my opinion it did get good again.

Have you seen The Book of Eli? It's not an amazing movie but I really enjoyed it
Edit: Also, watch Under The Skin if you're into weird scifi
Edit 2: how has no one mentioned Mr. Nobody yet?
Edit 3: does Donnie Darko count as scifi?
Edit 4: Stranger Things and Midnight Special are both really great homages to 80's scifi
I think I'm done now
Edit 5: Nevermind, I don't think Her and A Scanner Darkly have been mentioned yet
Edit 6: Last one, I promise, but please watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, it's one of my favorite movies

Finished Stranger Things couple of days ago. I've watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Tried to re-watch couple of times I fall asleep all the time.. don't know why. Might be because of Jim carrey in serious role. Happened with Numer 23. haha
Added Under The Skin on watchlist.

Already watched Stranger Things. It's great, but I wouldn't really see it as Sci-fi. Haven't tried Black Mirror yet, since it has no ongoing story. The drawing style of Rick & Morty didn't appeal to me.
Currently I'm busy with Better Call Saul, Outcast and iZombie.
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't know what Stranger Things is if not an ode to 80's scifi movies :p Granted, it's more horror focused but it's still very scifi themed. I highly recommend Black Mirror, it's one of the best shows out there.
And Better Call Saul is amazing! I really enjoyed iZombie as well but I stopped watching after the first season. I only watched the first couple episodes of Outcast but that seemed pretty good as well.
I'm currently real busy watching series as well.. I've got Better Call Saul, Fargo, American Gods and Archer to keep up with atm and I'm also watching Cowboy Bebop

I had Melancholia in my watchlist for ages. Don't know why I haven't watched it. I guess it got overshadowed by other movies.
Added The Fly, Killjoys, Dark Matter, The Man in the High Castle, Continuum and Lexx – The Dark Zone on watchlist.
Waiting for new season of Doctor who.
Thanks :)

I love sci-fi movies a lot, aside from sports(motivational) movie.
My favorites are 2001: Space Odyssey, Pi, Aliens, Moon, Stalker, Matrix Series, Solaris, Ex Machina, Gattaca, Contact, Sunshine and K:PAX.
Don't recommend me superhero movies cause they obviously falls under sci-fi. genre.
I want something pure sci-fi like one of my friend recommended Primer. Not as complex as that but something understandable.
As you can see through my favorites it dates from 1960's till now.. but they might be mainstream, so I might miss some.
Oh plz god dont say interstellar. Its not that good sci-fi as regards to other, but I like that song. I like other song too Brain Damage, I guess facebook doesn't like this name (funny story I'll post it on comment)
EDIT : I forgot about Brazil
And for Anime Steins;Gate
Thanks to MaxThunder for the sponsored GA
EDIT 20th May 17: As some members have asked to create a public list. I have created a list on IMDB which consists all the movies recommended by the community.
Note: The list contains Feature Films, TV series & movies, Anime & series. This list might contains some movies that can't considered as sci-fi movies. This is just a list of recommended movies, you might have to filter out which movie might fit for you. I haven't filtered out any recommendations from members on the list, but I might have missed some of them because I couldn't find its link.
