I love sci-fi movies a lot, aside from sports(motivational) movie.
My favorites are 2001: Space Odyssey, Pi, Aliens, Moon, Stalker, Matrix Series, Solaris, Ex Machina, Gattaca, Contact, Sunshine and K:PAX.
Don't recommend me superhero movies cause they obviously falls under sci-fi. genre.
I want something pure sci-fi like one of my friend recommended Primer. Not as complex as that but something understandable.
As you can see through my favorites it dates from 1960's till now.. but they might be mainstream, so I might miss some.
Oh plz god dont say interstellar. Its not that good sci-fi as regards to other, but I like that song. I like other song too Brain Damage, I guess facebook doesn't like this name (funny story I'll post it on comment)
EDIT : I forgot about Brazil
And for Anime Steins;Gate

EDIT 20th May 17: As some members have asked to create a public list. I have created a list on IMDB which consists all the movies recommended by the community.

Note: The list contains Feature Films, TV series & movies, Anime & series. This list might contains some movies that can't considered as sci-fi movies. This is just a list of recommended movies, you might have to filter out which movie might fit for you. I haven't filtered out any recommendations from members on the list, but I might have missed some of them because I couldn't find its link.

Android - on sky cinema often, pretty so-so until a fairly decent story development near the end.

Kin Dza Dza - a weird Russian sci-fi flick, more a comedy, and tongue in cheek way of discussing class systems/prejudice.

Karaoke and then Cold Lazarus - two dramas by Dennis Potter, basically two miniseries that are connected. karaoke is about an author with a feeling of living in his own play (not strictly scifi, but necessary to understand Cold Lazarus), and Cold Lazarus follows on thousands of years in the future, where's the author's frozen head is used by scientists to understand the past through his fragmented memories. It's quite an unusual take on the future.

I also loved the old school Outer Limits from the 60s, they had a lot of charm and wit, but also constant feelings of dread that the newer series missed out on for jump scares/horror.

Also, I really enjoyed The Prisoner, both the old school British TV series, and the newer American miniseries, both were very interesting in concept about a former spy trapped in an inescapable village policed by spymasters and giant killer balloons.

Also, don't watch Continuum, it's awful, worst scifi film I've seen in ages. Tries to cover the ethics and drama around time travel, but really falls flat in every way.

I debated suggesting The Giver too. It sure is an unusual one, the macguffin is a bit confusing, but it did paint a disturbing world. I'm always a little dubious of teen based scifi, expecting them to lack the depth of more adult stuff, but this one was a pleasant surprise.
