I won the base game a day or two ago, and because of that, I can't upgrade to the Augmented Edition (wish SE would allow you to upgrade to it). With the base game, I can get the Director's Cut for $9.99 (cheaper when it goes on sale)...but I'm wondering if I get all the extra goodies that the Augmented Edition provides if I upgrade to the Director's Cut.

So those features would be:
-Exclusive 40-page Artbook - Showcasing the concepts behind the world of 2027. Discover the origins of the design, the characters and the weapons of Deus Ex: Human Revolution
-44-minute making-of chronicling the trials and tribulations of the Eidos-Montreal team
-Motion comic based on the first issue of the DC Comics adaptation
-Game soundtrack composed by Michael McCann
-E3 Trailer and animated storyboard

EDIT: Oh yeah, so now with DE:HR getting a director's cut being released in a matter of days, do you guys think they'll be another 80% discount during the next sale, or will the discount be lessened?

So the Director's Cut is coming to Steam? Great, anyone knows if my "normal" version is wasted or if an upgrade will be available?

Nevermind, found in the discussion boards

There's an upgrade for vanilla and vanilla with owned DLC (cheaper, obviously).

New purchase (if you don’t already have the game): £12.99/€19.99/$19.99
Own the basic game (with no DLC): £6.99/€7.99/$9.99
Own the game and Missing Link DLC: £3.49/€3.99/$4.99

I'm hoping for an upgrade sale when it's released.

Then again, I'm also hoping to buy a new graphics card soon, and somehow that isn't happening because of reasons :/

Yeah, that's why I'll only pick it up if it's 50% or 75% off. And hopefully it'll remove those existing two entries in my Steam client and replace them with just one.

It has a different id so its more than likely adding to your library. I'm guessing they'll pill the original from sale since DC is cheaper just like they often do when a game gets a GOTY release.

Maybe they'll arrange something with Steam, because it would be utterly moronic to have THREE entries...

It's a different game not just content patched in. Contact Steam and ask them to remove it if it bothers you so much but if they just come along and deleting parts of peoples libraries tere'll be more than shit hitting the fan

Why would there be? If you bought the upgrade, then you have no need for the old version and the Missing Link DLC, which is also a standalone entry. The new game has them included.

Game collectors for a start, achievement hunters. Coming from the 360 to the PC I can fully understand people who want to get the achievements in multiple versions/regional releases of a game, even mpore so when its actually a game they like. Or maybe one day I'll just want to do a DLC playthrough without having to downlaod the whole game.

In any case I bought the game and any removal should be opt-in and not automatic or opt out

Screw those lowlifes. Library cleanliness is more important. Let them hunt achievements again if they it makes them happy. It's important for everything to be clean and in perfect order.

Despite the fact that 5 bucks for a basic patch is a rip off (this doesn't add any thing, only 'new game+' and less stupid boss system ; the witcher 1 & 2 enhanced edition added 100 times more content for 0$, let's talk about respect for gamers), they got a point with the pricing, owners of a base game should not pay 100% of the facking goty or whatever shit it's called ! Look at Skyrim and Dishonored, for the base game owners, the DLCs alone cost more than the goty but the goty make you pay the base game for the second time, it's not acceptable, Bethesda is a serial ass rapist, they're saying to the early buyers "you bought our game at the beginning ? Well, fuck you !", and therefore, I will never buy the DLC nor the GOTY for those 2 games...

Don't bring Wither to this, EE had nothing to do with respect for gamers. They HAD to make it, without it they could not release it in US.

What do you talking about ? And what about the EE for The Witcher 2 ? It added to the PC version the new content of the 360 version, freely.

Well, you can't compare anything to Witcher really, those CDP guys are saints. And this 5 dollar patch of yours sounds really fair to me. "...the game will also offer hours of developer commentaries, a New Game+ mode, achievements, a fully interactive in-game guide along with gameplay tweaks like improved A.I., overhauled boss fights, refined game balance and combat and visual improvements." Asking anything less is going to cost them money and they aren't a charity. If you don't want to pay, then don't get it.

"New game+, improved AI, overhauled boss fights, refined game balance and combat and visual improvements." << that's a patch and a light one... The audio commentary is just an excuse to make you pay for this, I just want the patch.
Don't worry, I won't buy it, the thing is every time some company makes a move like this, too many people pay without thinking about the consequence and few years later, it becomes a standard, like DLC, microtransaction, paid online (console only though)... If Square Enix sees that people are willing to pay 5$ for a patch, be ready to pay patch for all their incoming games. And in few years, we'll be happy when someone releases a free patch, awesome...

I agree. I own the base game + the missing link DLC. 4€ for some changes with bosses fights, and integration of the missing link in the base game, it feels exactly like paying for a patch.
Too bad for an editor who made such a good-designed game.
My 2 cents.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Just consider it as GOTY edition of Deus Ex with some updates.

From what I know, If you have base game + the missing link dlc, you will pay less for the upgrade from normal version to director's cut (it's around 4€), if you have just the game without the dlc you will pay 7€ for it.

They should just upgrade our versions also.

Owning the base game gives a discount, owning base game and Missing Link gives even more discount towards the director's cut upgrade

Owning every single piece on content available does not grant free upgrade, so paying for nothing?

You'll only have to pay a small price to acquire the Director's Cut edition since you already have the game + The Missing Link.

You don't have to pay anything if you want to stick with the original game.

In this case I lost money on explosive & tactical dlc's, since there won't be any price drop for having those and they are included in the directors cut if I read correctly.

Those last two are free only because GFWL was removed. Which happened YEARS after the DLC was released. CDPR lives in a country where it is much cheaper to develop games and they publish their own games. They are an exception that proves the rule.

This is not a patch. A patch fixes something that doesn't work. The game was perfectly functional. This is new content, and the price is negligible.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's certainly a partial patch. Remember those horribly shitty boss fights? The ones the devs admitted to regretting ever putting into the game? The Director's Cut fixes those.

In essence, owners of the original release are indeed paying for a patch. A patch with some supplemental bullshit tacked on so the publisher can get away with charging for it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They didn't regret putting the boss fights in the game. They regretted outsourcing the boss fights to another company. The boss fight in the Missing Link DLC was one they did themselves and was more in-line with their intent. Fortunately, the game was a big enough success that they were able to go back and fix the boss fights. But massive corporations don't work for free.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Regardless, they're now charging for modified content that should be offered as a free update for owners of the original release. The boss fights are universally reviled, and I find it a bit disingenuous (especially considering how vocal the devs have been in their dislike) for the publisher to be charging money for what essentially amounts to a patch.

Hey, do you remember when New Line Cinema went back and added a whole bunch of cut content back into the LOTR movies and then shipped new free copies to everyone who had ever bought the original printing?

No, because that shit never happened, and no one fucking complained when all they got on their disc was exactly what was shown in theaters.

I own the base game and all 3 DLCs, and I've replayed both the base game and Missing Link 3 times so far.

That's how much I love the game, but I'm having mixed feelings about paying another $5 just for better graphics, boss battles, and NG+.

Is this going to create another game in my library like Batman AC GOTY? Do I have to earn all my achievements again?

They completely rebuilt the boss fights, improved the AI in general, integrated Missing Link into the main campaign, added a New Game+ Mode, improved the graphics (tweaks to shaders/lighting mostly) and they added a Developer Commentary mode that appears to be similar to that found in Valves more recent games.

Director's Cut is out, and...

I'm pissed.

I have the Missing Link DLC, so the game was supposed to cost £3.49/€3.99/$4.99. Well, it doesn't. It's 4.99€, at least in my tier. If you had only the basic game, instead of 8€ you now have to pay 10€.

They have hidden the discounts by applying discounts of 50% off and 75% off.

Jesus effin christ.

I'm not going to buy this for FIVE BLOODY EUROS. Go to hell, squenix.

EDIT: According to the Steam forums, Director's Cut wasn't even based on the latest, patched base game. Nope. It's based on a very old version and is full of bugs.
