I finally saved up a decent amount of steam wallet after selling all the cards I had, since I do not get around much to getting new games I would like to find some that have something that make them last for a solid amount of time. Looking at around 30 - 40 $ price point.

I was looking at forums for older posts on some of the bigger name games and they tend to be hit or miss in both directions.

While steam sales may be over, still trying to see how far I can stretch the price point. I like games like Dark Souls, Issac, borderlands 2 so I would be looking for game similar as I have gotten around 300 hours from just those three. Seems like most triple A games lately have had very short campaigns and are one and done till more dlc comes out.

Does it save your progress? Or is it like a game that you start over on death?

It has perma death, but when you unlock a class it stays available to you.

I'd say just try it out, it's free so nothing to lose.
There are in game purchases though, but I doubt you'll need them until you have a character that can survive pretty well.

Transform your SW in paypal, go and buy Diablo 3 or Starcraft II... replay value over 9000aaaaaaaand...

I don't think you can turn steam wallet into real money (at the very least you'll have a loss because valve and paypal both have charges)
Might be an idea to look at torchlight 2 though (diablo like, IMO it's better but opinions can differ)

Not sure about a steam-capable starcraft II replacement since I don't like the RTS genre.

And how do you transfer the Steam wallet credit?

Games that are known for lasting more than a decade with great success are Diablo 2, Starcrat, Heroes of Might and Magic. All have the replayability factor. Currently the only proper game that can keep you playing for years is Path of Exile. If you are into hack'n'slashes, that is.

Hey guy let me offer the best advice for you economically:

There was a pricing snafu for the Galactic Civilizations bundle, and Galactic Civilizations 2 Ultimate is one of the best 4x games of modern times (DO download the manual for it) it is just vast and there's so much to do and so many different ways to win.... and it's a $20 game you should be able to get pretty cheap still because steam messed up the bundle price and people bought a lot of them (unfortunately I missed this or I would offer it to you)

Hang on to your money man, only buy games when they are very cheap! Also realize that you can trade for a people for a lot of games for TF2 keys, add me and we'll talk further on this.

BUT I REPEAT: Do not EVER pay full retail for any game! It's a terrible waste of money! there are daily, midweek, and weekend deals constantly, plus 2 or 3 major steam sales per year, plus all the other sites selling steam keys and dirt cheap bundles like indiegala, gmg, etc, etc.

I know the feeling I trade when I can like I'm sitting on a few keys for some games that are not bundled, and currently like 2 tf 2 keys going to have 3-4 more in probably a few hours. Lot of good games listed on here I'm looking for most of them on steam trades and the like so i can see how far I can get with all the good suggestions.

Any good roguelike/dungeon crawler.
Dungeons of Dredmor may be the best choice but now I'm playing Sword of the Stars: The Pit and I think it's a good game.

FTL: Faster Than Light. Bought it for £3.50, didn't realise I'd end up playing it for over 150 hours. Absolutely brilliant game.

If you like sandbox games you might want to check out Garry's Mod.

Civ 5 if you want to watch the days hours disappear in the blink of an eye, X-Com for something less life consuming, or for a non-strategy title, Cave Story + is worth every penny and I've played through the game like 6 times now over 3 different consoles.

Even if most gamers say that Just Cause 2 is "Play the story (it sucks), free roam around the 400 square miles tropical island, blow up a few fuel shaft and then that's all there is to it." Still, it's the game I've played the most (around 263 hours). So it all depends, if you like to free roam in a sandbox kind of game while blowing up a beached whale and fuel shafts AND giants statues, and then parachute up a mountain, grapple to a plane, throw the pilot out and take the plane, then crash into a tower 9/11 style, this game is for you.

As of now I have picked up Bioshock infinite(got it really dirt cheap in a trade so it is what it is), Sonic transformed racing (not sure if the dlc is worth getting but trying to trade for it regardless) , Star wares knights of the old republic, and installed portal 2.

Currently looking into getting Mount and blade warband(collection is only 5 $ more so ill probably get that) (fun demo like i played it for a long time for a demo), Torchlight 2, civ 5, and maybe garry's mod. Adding and subtracting to this list based on the trades I can get trying to save the wallet to fill in the blanks.

And how about a MMORPG?, Tera is really good with the lancer class and of course f2p.

The regular problem in all the mmorpg is the boring part of target=>spam 1, 2, 3, 4, repeat. The great point in Tera is that you must aim all your skills, you must guard with the tank each time the boss atack you (or die if you dont lol) and no simply full equip your character and tank like other games. You can see lancer fights against Bams(bam=boss in tera) in youtube.

I replayed Evil Genius a few times. Saints Row 2 and 3 can get pretty high in hours depending on how you play, though a lot of people prefer one over the other, so you would likely look at if you want more serious or more goofy.
