44 event cards so far. Holding on for another 70 or so to see if there is some bonus for crafting at the start of the event.
Sadly I miss a #6 card for a set, I was curious if you could craft the event badge already or not. But even the market is tricky, because they all put the cards into one large basket and when you buy, you get a random card.

Madu crafted a badge early when it was possible, and got nothing. Soon after they disabled crafting totally.

Yeah, I saw that the badge is not on the list yet and I can only access the page through the cards themselves. I was wondering if they even let people do it or not.
Although I have a sinking feeling that the card drops shouldn't be active yet, I recall a one-week period before the sales, not 14 days. It wouldn't surprise me if somebody set a wrong date and now they just lock down what they can and let the users go free.
At least they managed to balance the load on the community servers quite fast. It's a first.

I usually wait til the first day of the sale and craft them all (once Steam servers calm down).
And yeah, I'm the same -- almost all my badges will be from free games, booster packs, and farming.
I'm kinda over the whole badge thing and usually sell most of my cards, but I do like the holiday/sale badges, so I save some cards for those..

Last year, badges crafted after the sale started gave you money for the clicker monster minigame to buy pre-game bonus items. I think people expect something similar.

Summer events have some history with that. The summer adventure also gave you bonus points for badges crafted after the sale went off. In 2014… there was some bonus for in-sale crafting as well.

In 2014 it was last time crafting cards was profitable, as there was that whole teams-thingie and point-gathering and crafting badges gave you chance to win free games.
And because of that, people were crafting Summer Badges like crazy, inflating price to over 30 cents per card, I think they might even go for around 50 cents, but more than 30 cents for sure.
Seeing how selling some badges gives you 20 cents after Valve Tax, you could earn some money.

Only 13 for me so far. Could be way more but I dont like the idea of using any kind of card idler since I feel like it would make the cards worth less.

I don't mean literally. Of course their money value is still the same but for me personally they would feel worth less when instead of unlocking them by playing a game I'd just get them by waiting.

Didn't go for it, as i only created for badges where i could only do it once because i only have 1 set ready except for 2 sets of LowGlow to test, coincidentally created crafted 50 sets. Only got 1 foil though, hoped for more, but i have more than enough set to craft from all those free games where i had my alts farm more than 1 set.

I never craft them before the sale cards get their definitive form, I've heard too many stories of cards not dropping. I'll probably do the same as every sale: craft 10 badges, trade for duplicates, craft sale badge L1 and move on.

Exactly 500. Levels boost friends list size (which I need for traders and various other friend requests I get), drop coupons (which sometimes result in wishlists or giveaways for games I never heard of before) and give me more emotes.
My emote list takes a minute or two to load in chat. :D

I had a lot of emotes but decided to sell/turn into gems those that I didn't like cause why keeping so many of them if I'm never going to use them, now I have just some that I like and just gonna keep/buy those I like.

I haven't crafted a badge either, but I've read that crafting badges now drops event cards. They're currently wort 0.12€ each, so depending on the chance/amount of card drops, crafting badges could actually be profitable.

Nope, it never is, unless you spend a lot of time and find people who do 1:1 any game trades. (Which is rare, people usually do 2:1 different game trades.)

Use steamcardexchange.net , I've been using it for trade purposes myself for some time now. The site has got a card value system based on market prices. The card values aren't always accurate, so you can even make profit out of it. The best part it, there are no market fees.
Also, by now I did craft a badge. It wasn't exactly profitable, but much cheaper than usual. I traded 5 0.04€ cards (would be 0.02€ each after paying market fees) fort 7 cards of same value. As said, card values are not always accurate. I had the other 8 cards needed for badge already, so I crafted a 15 card badge named "Potato". I couldn't resist :D Besides, I now have all actions completed for Community Leader, which makes me feel safer. So, 15 cards worth 0.02€ each makes the badge cost 0.30€ (if you already have them and don't buy from market). However, I received a Summer Sale card and sold it for 0.11€ (0.09€ after fees) and the badge only cost me 0.21.
Tl;dr crafting badges during summer sale is 30% cheaper.

If you didn't sell/trade any cards yet, you can easily count it by checking how many summer sale 2016 cards you gathered so far.
For me it's 7 full pages + 10, so 185 in total... I didn't even know I have so many :3.
Level 68 -> 90. I will get a few more once I finish matching my dupes and looting my ASF alts :3.
