Update : Ordered #1. I still have time to retract the order if necessary. Do keep suggesting alternatives if you see fit.

I could be entirely wrong and there could be better routers out there. And it would really help if I knew what exactly to look for in a router, because I do not know if I am supposed to trust good reviews.... or Not. TPLink is good for its price range. Sure, you have a higher than 1% possibility that you get one that will randomly drop the signal (both wired and wireless), but my TL-WDR4300 450M has been working flawlessly for the past 14 months.

Good to know the brand is worth banking on. Do you know any other good ones? And out of the two above, which one could I choose?

For the need you listed, neither. If you need to cover an area that large with walls in it, get one that has three antennas.
Even then, 1500 sqft is about 140 sqare meters, which is usually covered by 2-5 routers/wifi hot spots in normal setups. You will never be able to cover that are in 30 USD. The cheapest option is to get one router with at least (number of computers using wired connection) + 2 slots and buy one or two ethernet wifi hotspots. But this setup is maybe… 300 dollar-ish.

Well, 1500 sq ft actually goes beyond my house all the way to the refuge area. So 900-1000 sq. ft would be a better estimate. I believe its about the size of one half of a tennis court. Of course, since there are walls in the middle (I count at least 4) I decided to add a factor of safety and make it 1500 instead. As for computers, I uh... have none. All I own is a laptop, and that's about it. The wireless router is for the mobile phones me and my parents use.

Based on these refined requirements, would you suggest more than 1 router?

Also I lost you at Ethernet WiFi Hotspots. Have no idea what that is. Probably because I do not know how routers work, or what defines a good one. Is this some sort of bridge network we are talking about here?

I'm talking about stuff like this:
http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/TL-WA854RE.html
They go by various names: WiFi hotspot, signal booster, WiFi range extender, WiFi splitter, wireless network sharing, and so on. Essentially it is a small wireless antennae you plug in a socket and use an Ethernet cable to link to the router. It acts like a remote WiFi antennae.
A normal router with 2-3 antennae can cover maybe 50 m2, roughly 500 ft2. MY three-antennae one can barely cover my 40 m2 flat with brick walls. And that was a 60-dollar one.
If you want to boost the signal to outside and want it to function even in the rain, your only option pretty much is to patch a cable all over the other side and have a hotspot there.
