Screenshots are answers from discussion on Steam about being unexpectedly banned. Before you ask - yes there are people who were banned for auto-joining only wishlisted gibs.

EDIT 1: I'd like to request to not have any kind of sexual intercourse with other users especially with auto-joiners in this thread :P
EDIT 2: I know I'm posting it a little too late but please discuss with respect or I will close the thread. It wasn't meant to spread hate towards some users so don't do it, pretty please. And don't blacklist too many people :P There are some nice users who use auto-join too. And they even don't have a chance to discuss cos they are simply afraid of you. And hate and fear always cause the worst things that are happening to mankind. Think about it.

Why? If you want something to give, why do you care about this? When you create giveaway, you want to raise level or bring happiness to a couple of guys, so why not me?
When I use the bot, it just saves my time. When I win the game, I always say thanks to the author and as fast as I can, confirm recieving of the gift.. When I have some money, I buy some gits in the Steam shop and GA them. This is how the SG is working, is not it?

Sorry if my Eng too bad

Cos by entering giveaways you're spending time, thus it has an opportunity cost attached to it, and it kinda means the user is somewhat interested in the game.

I dunno. My bot includes blacklist, so every user can remove every game, if he not interested for it.
I just wanna say, that if somebody want win every fucking game, then and without autojoiner he will enter to all of them, if chance large enough.

No one is limiting how many giveaways you can enter. They are limiting how many you can enter in a specific time period so it doesn't hammer the server. If everyone here ran those shitty scripts the load would take the site down quickly. If you think it's worth it to cause harm to this site by using them I'm pretty sure that the option to permaban is there and will probably be implemented on those that still choose to use them.

I know all this, my bot does not send 300 requests for 7 seconds. This is stupid!

I just wanted to know specifically why users of the site do not like bots.

Permalink

Because they want you to read the giveaway descriptions.

Permalink

As I said on next page, they have a claim not so much the bot how to inactive members of the SG community. Everybody can skip description without bots.

I don't like bots and autojoin scripts, because due to how the Steam web API works, they can enter giveaways for product they already own.
If someone wins a giveaway they shouldn't have entered, they just create extra work for the already overworked support members.

So if my bot does not allow this, then everything is OK?

Permalink

Because we want most of these games to end up at people who would play them. I know this concept is getting uncomprehensible for the majority of Steam users now and to an even larger portion of the level 0–4 users here, but that's the truth. Having only a few entries is less saddening than seeing your winner farm the game for cards and forgetting it even exists (and just goes back playing CS:GO).

It's about people, not autojoiners.

Autojoiners are more inclined to enter anything for a +1/free cards. I do level 0 open giveaways. Quite a number of them. I see the numbers, I see the amount of hoarders, script-users, the demography of the rule-breakers and key-stealers/regifters. I try to be as lenient as possible—my blacklist is perpetually empty, I don't care about saying thanks even after winning, don't care about ratios or VAC bans—, but handing out these keys who hoard for the sake of hoarding has made me question my motivation to create giveaways in general.

"Autojoiners are more inclined to enter anything for a +1/free cards."
This is just your assumption. We cant know exactly who is using bots and why. For example, I can automatically enter only in the GAs of my wishlist, which means that I really-really-really (MOM BUY PLS!!!) want this game.

We can open the site statistics and see that almost 800 thousand from 900 thousand registered users are still at the level of 0, which means that they have not created a single hand.

I am sure that if the ban all users of bots, the situation will not change for the better, because a lot of people just want to get the game without giving anything in return.

Giving anything, I don't care about. Anyone can remain level 0 for all I care.

This is just your assumption.

Nope, it is my experience. The botting is so real, that once when I wanted to edit a typo in the description of a non-bundled open giveaway, in the ten seconds it required, I got 30 entries, because scripters who are spending points on the newly created giveaways and not the almost-finished ones (it is an option in one of the autojoining scripts).
I also regularly see users post the exact same scripted thanks message for up to 15 giveaways within a 5-second time frame.
As I said: I see the numbers. Week by week.

I used to be a auto-join user in my first days of SG, it's a nice way to enter in 30 seconds remaing giveaways, but goddamn, 300 entries in 7 seconds is total abuse.

Actually, ArchiBoT doesn't enter (at least, not as a standard feature, maybe Archi is holding out) and is designed to comply with site traffic rules, so it should be fine since it just scrapes info now.

Some people also think that every human not believing in Allah should be tortured and murdered while causing the most pain he is capable of withstanding before finally dying in massive agony.

Why I should be responding to that? I do not waste time focusing on 1% of people who disagree with me, I'm happy with 99% that do like my person.

Bots are the scourge of the web, it's likely skynet in its infancy! So I voted yes of course. However, as long as this site promotes 3rd party scripts/other add on functions, I really cant blame people for being influenced or curious.

Let me try to translate: you are asking if they are all Russians or not? Because they should be not, there ought to be quite a few Brazilians among them.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Nope, I do not expect it to be all Russians with some Brazilians mixed in. But I do expect there would be some patterns.
Mostly curious whether the demographic aspects of the group that got banned matches up (percentage-wise) more or less with the demographic aspects of sg as a while and if not, how the pattern is skewed. This isn't limited to nationality really, could literally be anything.

But that's just me. Oddly curious about all kinds of stuff.
