I won't go into details, but basically trying to find an anime for a person who generally doesn't watch anime. He doesn't have an specific genre, though from what I know lets stay away from fan-services ones :v

Looking for an Action/adventure or a thriller anime. Said person prefers if it's in Dub.

I was thinking for a first-timer FMA:Brotherhood as that has a good Dub in my opinion.

Help!

I know it's super long, but One Piece. It's what got me into anime to begin with so it could be an option. Not all of it is dubbed, but I good amount of it is so if he gets used to it enough, he could always switch. I personally think it's a great show. Code Geass and Cowboy Bebop are also good options. I would recommend more, but 1. I haven't seen tons of anime and 2. The others I have seen aren't the best to start on imo or aren't dubbed.

I actually never watch FMA before but I read the manga and it's the first that comes from my mind too.
Not-too-long anime with good story would be the best bet I think.

Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi is another one I like. I find it interesting that we don't know what make us "die" and what will happen if there's no "death" in this world. Anime has only 12 episode.

Another one I like is Shin Sekai Yori but this one is quite long, 24 episodes.

Rai-
FMA deffo FMA for action adventure.
either that or maybe soul eater as that was my first series.
+1 for baccano to as thats one of the only series I like the dub more for.

and looking at thriller either a classic like pyscho pass or death note depending on taste lain might work. (but thats very niche and I'm not sure about dub).

I started watching just a while ago and my first anime was Death Note and along with that One Punch Man. If he/she prefers dub I would say go with 'One Punch Man' or 'Mob Psycho 100' both have nice dubs specially Mob and both are fun and short.

Death Note (The dub is decent)
Steins;Gate (If he/she could sit through the first few episodes)
Plastic Memories (If he/she isn't depressive)
Kakegurui (If he/she is interested in watching this season's anime)

Steamboy (2004, directed by Katsuhiro Otomo) is probably one of the most accessible anime films: the setting and plot are easy to understand without being simplistic, there's no over the top strangeness, lewdness or gore, and it's got a good dub (featuring Patrick Stewart, Alfred Moilna and Kari Wahlgren). I enjoy the movies of Satoshi Kon and Studio Ghibli and think both would be good for someone who doesn't watch regular anime series, eventually, but they tend to have more out-there elements; the pacing and level of oddity to Steamboy is more like a Marvel movie - not something that's possible, but the pacing and level of strangeness are in line with a mainstream action superhero/scifi movie, just animated.

Another possible approach is an anthology: The Animatrix has a variety of art styles in its nine segments, some of which are CG, others anime and related animation styles. I wasn't crazy about Halo Legends, bit if your friend is familiar with the setting, it might be an easy transition. Memories doesn't tie in with a franchise, it's just three interesting shorts with distinct art styles - they're well-made and your friend won't feel tied down to a full movie if one of them isn't to his liking.

Steamboy was pretty good. That's another good one.

If your friend doesn't mind older shows, Baccano! has one of the best dub I've seen, err, heard, for a dubbed anime.

Erased's beginning was 10/10 imo but half way through the anime i'd say 7.5 or 8

Death Parade is 9/10 all the way through (it's so fucking good)

I don't really watch anime but these are my fave

Hm, I think something shorter for the first time is a better idea. While FMA is a good anime it is rather lengthy. While most of the time something relevant is happening there are parts which feel a bit dragged (I think the part in the North was a bit too long).

Not sure to what person's tastes are but for completion's sake I will suggest something darker and shorter which hasn't been suggested so far: Fate/Zero emphasis on Zero because by watching StayNight you make sure person never watches anime again. -__- Other than that I am a great fan of Puella Shoujo Madoka but it is rather strange and weird in some parts (also on the animation side) and it may be a bit heavy for the beginning. Or you just Chose something more light-hearted although I don't have a recommendation for that. Hm, maybe AnoHana which is also really good but sad. It is not dark and more slice of life with a simple supernatural element.

Or you start with a movie as it doesn't get much shorter than that. But they don't have much fleshed out stories or characters. And something like Ghibli while imaginative and creative I find personally pretty confusing.

What about Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works?

Fuuu. That's a difficult one. Mostly discussing Unlimited Blade Works as StayNight is really hard to watch alone (at least for me it was and I nearly stopped watching it) but it has some importance for Zero. On the animation part alone Unlimited Blade Works is awesome :P On the characterization it is also better than SN mainly for the main character having a bit better attitude. I read someone saying that Shiro has in StayNight a "Stay in the kitchen" attitude towards Saber which is fitting pretty well and just makes you wanna punch him the whole time. This is a lot better in UBW. Also the reason and motivation for Rin is depicted much better as she is the heroine this time around.

I think most of my problems with UBW (and even more with SN) are on a personal basis. What I missed a lot is why those kids are taking part in this bloody grail war. Most participants are not described in any way and you don't know why they would do that (it gets a bit better after watching Zero). Another part which is a hindrance is that it stems from a VN with three different routes and SN and UBW each depict one route featuring focus on a different heroine but it means that if you watch only one anime a lot of information to appreciate the series is missing. You would have to see all three in order get the full Picture which makes it problematic. Another personal problem is that I have seen Zero before for two reasons: Zero did an awesome Job at describing each ones motivation and how they played out their relations and by watching Zero I had at least one Person I did not wanna see die in UBW which then died (and made me mad) and another Person which has not been shown much at all (due to the route system). And lastly UBW has some stuff with time lanes ans such which i personally don't like in most cases (there are exceptions where I thought it is fitting and not paradox). If you only watch UBW it will feel incomplete, that can be said for sure. So watching SN will make UBW a better Anime and watching Zero will make UBW a better anime as well (and make even SN a better Anime).

As a few said, Cowboy Bebop is my first choice. I even considered telling my father to watch it. Another one that I like and tend to recommend is Drifters.

Father could appreciate older anime, while a younger person probably not as much. Though I am considering it

Beelzebub,
Guilty Crown,
Kyoukai no Kanata,
Psycho-pass,
Noragami,
Some of my favourites, they all have a different genre though

PsychoPass – nice characters, nice story, nice futuristic world idea, not childish (I'd even say it is for adult audience only because it is quite brutal).

Steins;Gate maybe? Although I don't know if it's a good first time choice, I just love it.
Oh yeah, generally most Ghibli's movies for story and Shinkai's for animation/story.

Something like Fate/Zero, or maybe One Punch Man, and in case if it's a girl maybe Toradora.
