Uhh last time i cracked my screen, i end up having to buy a new phone since replacing it will cost almost the price i spent to buy that phone...
How much the screen price in 3rd party display cost btw(for the screen and the fix)? Is it very cheap compared to the official one?

Damn, if i knew that i would just go to 3rd party repair stores... i liked my old phone, especially since it has replaceable battery... now my new phone runs out of battery only after a few hours (and thats after i replaced their battery like a few years ago)...

Hmm fair enough. We always have the mindset to go to the authentic stores whenever things are broken here since we are afraid that 3rd parties might replace our authentic non broken parts with theirs so the thought never cross my mind, but i never thought the price would be that different. At that price i might go for it for my old phone if i still have it though. I doubt it's worth anything at this point, and it can serve as my backup phone whenever i have to go outside.

While they can make enough who wants to pay $300 for a new screen on a older phone when that is the same cost as buying a used phone.
I'm sure busted screens are the main reason people buy new phones so ofc they want the price of new screens to be prohibitively expensive.
Their point is for people to buy new phones. Not for 3rd party sites to give screens away for pocket change.
Ofc a lawsuit like that will go well for them in the US, as long as they have the proper people greased. Good luck to them in Europe though lol

Unfortunately it is possible for them to win. I don't agree with everything the EU does but the do stand of for consumers rights.
I donate time and money for the Right to Repair movement in the US. And hopefully posting this here will make more people aware of the problems and get them involved too.

Interesting and important movement. I remember when people used to repair or get things repaired. My grandfather never had anything new in his life (well maybe a tv when he got too old to fix the old one). He just liked grabbing old things and tinkering with them.
Now it would be almost impossible for him to do. Everything is half baked electronics and "proprietary" components, with a timer on them.
Designed to fail so we have to buy "new" without care for the cost to people and the environment.

My computers, laptops, and tablets have all be purchased used/refurbished. It saves so much money as well as helps reduce waste.
I took an electronics repair course in 95 and that knowledge has helped me fix many devices for myself and family. I also took courses on plumbing, carpentry, and electrical. Something I think all people who own a home learn.

Same. I only bought a new laptop last year because I had been waiting too long on GPUs prices to build my own rig and my old laptop had bricked completely. I plan on giving it away to my gf when I can finally build a proper rig.

Damn! I bet you have lots of friends lol
I only know a little electrical and plumbing, and some car mechanics, I picked up from my grandfather and I'm basically the hot-line of everyone I know who knows it.

Friends are the family we choose after all.
Amen to that. Used to be how people did things. You helped them with this. They helped you with that or traded you for it. Now it's all monetized. At least with friends, it's still something that can still help, regardless of what they can or cannot do for you. Being a friend is their currency.
Hell, I even change lightbulbs for the little old lady in the flat next door and she can never remember my name. But she gives me cookies when she makes them ;)

My parents said the exact same thing. They cant repair anything, but they even noticed that almost everything broke quickly nowadays to force people to buy the new ones.

Absolutely. It's programmed obsolescence.
And ofc when you look around to buy things, at reviews, professional or not, nobody ever talk about that.
Every time I bought a device that stopped working just past the warranty, I go on Amazon and edit my review to make a note of it. It's always useful information for potential buyers.
It's most things nowadays though.

TBH, since its in America, most likely they will win the case (Dont get me wrong, nothing against America, but you cant deny the fact that a lot of stupid cases go through over there).
Its not a paradise over here, but at least in Europe we are all about consumer rights, even the countries like mine who are not part of EU, no one basically fixes their electronics in official stores, everyone goes to 3rd party, and some of us even fix it ourselves, since its 1681684168541684 times cheaper than what the companies like Samsung and Apple are ripping off.

Problem for them is that even if they win in US (which I hope they don't as FTC already started to support Right to Repair ) they won't pull the same thing in EU. Can't see how they would block import of generic screenshot from china, that are only the same size to fit front of phone, but don't use any proprietary Samsung technologies. That way they would ban import of all AMOLED screens to US?
I really hope RtR will get solid grounds both in US and EU, so JohnDeer and Apple won't be able to force customers to pay arm and leg for simple repair, as "oh noes, 3rd party service breaks our patents and can lead to serious death of customers!". Not like Samsung phones that could randomly catch fire. That's fine, as it happened reportedly few times, and was Samsung approved.

I thought this was important enough to share. Samsung Display is tying to get the US government to prevent the import of refurbished Samsung and 3rd party displays. They are saying that it infringes on the patents and other BS. They are listing about every 3rd party repair parts provider in the US. All of the site clearly label the parts for sale as refurbished or just compatible.
They are saying stopping this will have no impact on repairs because they make enough screens to supply the need. While they can make enough who wants to pay $300 for a new screen on a older phone when that is the same cost as buying a used phone. This policy will create tons of e-waste as it will not be worth doing screen repairs.
