It would be of great addition that will eliminate the repetitive 'open in new tab, enter giveaway' task.

EDIT: Also 'one-click' remove entry..

Nope. Put in some effort. Take part in community don't just hunt for free games...

Hm... I see your point, but I don't see any worth or "taking part in community" in this action.

i agree if i make a giveaway i don't care about people who say thanks or whatever they spam the comment board

I don't care about comments, but I prefer there to be minimal entry barrier of atleast a few clicks. If person can't be bothered to do that much, they don't really want the game anyway.

but most of the games that are on this website arn't even on my wishlist. if i have points i enter on every giveaway that i can find.

Why enter giveaways for games that you are not interested in? There is no negative repercussions for letting points stagnate and other people who actually want the game would have the chance to win.

Plus, it's just a few clicks. What's next? Auto entry on specified games/ games on your wishlist? Surely a few clicks for a chance of a totally free game isn't much of a problem.

How exactly is it partaking in the community by taking a few extra steps to enter a giveaway?

Don't delude yourself. Your petty excuses mean nothing, especially when the entire core of a giveaway site is to give away free games.

If you can't be bothered to enter the giveaway page and read whatever I put in the giveaway description, please stay away from my giveaways.

I'm pretty sure some people visit the giveaway page and still don't read the description. Not that I actually do that of course...

Maybe add a "Comment and Enter" with space for you to type between the game title on the left and the thumbnail on the right. And I agree with the below; the comments for the gifts are pretty much just full of "thanks! you're awesome", not really any deep community discussion going on.

That still wouldn't allow people entering to see the giveaway description.

Apparently, some do. On old SteamGifts, I had all the generic "thanks" comments hidden because they have pretty much zero semantic content. And some claim most of them were bot-posted anyway.

It would be useful, but I think overall it means people would not see any specific giveaway requirements the creator has made for example. Also to say thanks for the giveaway etc.

Giveaway requirements in the comment section? Such as?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If you say any form of thank you, I will ask for a reroll.

You have to have an image of a cat in your comment or else I will ask for a reroll.

You have to say thank you, or I will ask for a reroll.

Stuff like that. I've seen all sorts of strange requests that were oked by support.

It only applies to private or private group giveaways. You cannot make rules for public ones. Anything the descriptions or users say in those do not have any effect on the giveaways. This is why the majority of the "active" members are in tiny groups far away from the rest of community.

But now I can actually have a rule saying post a picture of your breakfast or I'll add you to my blacklist. It will do wonder to weed out the ones who don't read giveaway descriptions.

Permalink

You can take the negative for any arbitrary reasons. The topic was on what support will reroll. I also don't think blacklists apply for rerolls on public giveaways anyway.

Nope, ppl won't read if there is anything important in description and won't say "thanks", like on Gameminer.

imho by now "thanks" in GA lost its meaning - people just spam it to look like they care (not all, I'm sure, but a lot...)
As for reading descriptions... well, if they don't - that would be their fault, wouldn't it?

"Thanks" is worthless. Say Thanks in one of my giveaways, get re-rolled.

Yes, http://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/Vd7NuNW 2 , I'm being serious http://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/AaLhhDw , and the mods approved it.

Good luck with that.

Especially since the sit'es guideline clearly states

We encourage users to write comments thanking the giveaway creator for their generosity, although this is not required.

But I'm sure the mods will be so glad to see you clogging the support section with such an useless request.

I agree. Both Playblink and Gameminer have this and it's so much better. It's little things like this that'd improve this site even more.

Maybe we should add minigames like on Playblink to make it even harder to enter. That would take care of bots.

Bots shouldn't even be concern. If someone wants to make them they'll always find a way.

I think that 'no-click' would be an even greater addition that will eliminate the repetitive 'visit site, click to enter giveaways' task. SG could automatically enter me into giveaways for any games on my wishlist.

Only if every month your credit card would be maxed to make giveaways for most wanted games ;D

Talk about lazy I agree you should put in some effort in to it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

As mentioned, some people do make very specific comments in the GA description that they hope people bother to read, even if they don't. I for one, haven't, but some people have and whenever i find such GAs, i do try to read and help out if it's something that doesn't hurt me one bit.

So i agree this is a useless sugestion meant to promote nothing but laziness from leechers and worse than that, will discourage certain users from creating giveaways, knowing that nobody will read the description. So lose-lose.

Also i really don't see how the site is 'slow'. Everything has been working super fast for me, faster than on old SG.

Permalink

I believe those 'optional' description can be displayed somewhere in the main feed either on hover of the 'one-click' enter button.

I'd just actually prefer the comments section (for GAs) to be at the top versus having to scroll to the bottom to post a comment, but that's just me.

Wow lots of people complaining about one or two extra clicks, if you want the game that shouldn't matter to you, and if you don't want it you probably shouldn't be entering the giveaway in the first place.
